    Not gonna lie, I had a big dumb grin on my face the entire time Evan read through the initial story bit. I'm sooooooo excited to play this game!

    Love the structure of the tutorial, "build your deck before we play" type games can be such a high barrier to get players in to, especially players coming in fresh and learning the game at the table, but only ever starting with prebuilt decks takes out some of the fun; learning game concepts while gradually building up decks is such a neat way to address that. Will probably scratch build my deck for my own solo campaign but prologue definitely feels like it'll be useful when I manage to get a folks together to play as a group!

    So, I'm about halfway through this video, can I just say that I really appreciate that they're letting two inexperienced players demo this game?
    I've shown the TTS demo to a few friends recently and recognize some of the same questions they were asking, so I think this will really help people grasp some beginning stumbling points.
    A lovely game that I'm really excited to play, thank you for making this.

    This was super helpful. I tried starting in the TTS demo but I'm much more of a visual learner than a rule book learner so this helped out a lot. Thank you!

    This is fantastic. Appreciate the laid back atmosphere and pace. Best part is picking unexperienced players to demo the game. Great choice! It really helped me understand the core mechanics as they asked similar questions that I had. I liked when there was a realization during deck building that they could help each other out. Interesting that there are essentially two different types of encounter decks and the "character creation" was great. Can't wait to check it out when it arrives!

    Also Anders did really well learning the game for someone who has never touched a tabletop game like this! But I attribute that to him AND the excellent tutorial

    Listener Question: Was the rule book cover art inspired by the 1970s-era Tolkien books art? Love the retro style, wondering where the inspiration came from

    •  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes, they mentioned that a few times in the podcast. They even changed the original artwork of the game to adapt it to this style :)

  • @yegods317

    So, I did back this, and am eagerly awaiting my copy, but from this tutorial, I'm just wondering... where does the cooperation come in? Is there some aspect of gameplay that wasn't included? I didn't see any cards played to help the other player... just two solo players basically.

    • @afischergames
      @afischergames ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hey! Yeah, this initial prologue is pretty structured. As they get into the game proper, you'll see some more opportunities for collaboration. Since this game is playable true solo, a lot of collaboration doesn't come through core systems, but through how content like different path cards and ranger card interact with it. So, a lot of ranger cards can be used on yourself, but can also be used on others. You'll see a lot of newer players (like Evan and Anders) mainly use their ranger cards on themselves, but the more you play multiplayer, the more you realize how beneficial it can be to support each other with your cards. Additionally, you're all working together towards the same goal. The only parts of the board that are personal to players are the areas within reach of them, and even then, one player can go interact with things within reach of another to help them out. We'll talk about it a bit more on this week's episode of the podcast too if you're interested in hearing more.

    Great video! I've been passively following this game for a while, and even read the manual, but this video is the first time where I get a true feel for how a match of the game will play out. I'm just starting to catch up with this series, so maybe this question is answered later on, but I'm wondering...Will there be ways to upgrade stats of our characters later on in the game? Or is the idea that people will play multiple characters whenever they wanna use cards they're not able to take?
    Another thing I was wondering is if there is any mechanical difference between getting through mobs peacefully vs fighting them (Or in other words, I was wondering if there are reasons to go with one over the other)

    • @afischergames
      @afischergames ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! Glad you're liking the series! That's a good question about whether you upgrade the characters' aspects (stats). In the core game we focus on Reward cards as the Rangers' form of advancement, so there is no increasing of your aspects, but it's something we've discussed, so I think you can expect some tweaks to your aspects in the future.
      As far as the difference between fighting vs connecting (the peaceful approach), I can tell you that connecting is always available via one of your common tests, but is usually a bit more work. Attacking things requires you to run a weapon in your deck and then equip it, but can be faster once you have it in hand. There's also the moral component to consider. Some key cards may have different narrative outcomes based on how you clear them. And speaking personally, I just feel bad killing everything in my way. Haha!

    The "Thoughtful" attribute says "You may commit this attribute to any Ranger's test". Does that mean the attached "Reason" approach icon may be used in place of any of the other approach icons when committing it to a test? Or does it mean you can play the card when another ranger *other than yourself* needs assistance when committing during a test?

    • @Kamakazee09
      @Kamakazee09 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also - does the "Remember" common test target a card? Or is it just a means of committing X effort to scout X cards and draw one?
      Also also - if a piece of gear states "Exhaust (use one charge)" does that card actually "Exhaust", or tap, and you remove a counter. Or do you just remove the counter? If it is truly exhausted, then the gear's ability cannot be used until after a refresh?

    • @CoryDeVore
      @CoryDeVore ปีที่แล้ว

      It means that you can commit that to any other player's test, but it would always be the Reason icon. :)

    • @CoryDeVore
      @CoryDeVore ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Kamakazee09 The Remember test does not target a card. All tests are a difficulty of 1 though, so you commit X but modify by the challenge deck draw (So X -1, -2, etc..) then you must at least have 1 effort left to succeed at the Remember test. But yes you do scout equal to your modified effort.
      And yes when a gear exhausts it is tapped and cannot be used for that effect until it readies.
