So cool of you to release a video so soon, something to watch during the weekend. Enjoyed the rock n 98 video and the mini nec. Like that you mention technomoan, I enjoy his videos a lot.
The movement of the analyser just seems to fit with midi perfectly, that is one of the best things I've seen on YT for a long time! Bet you're very happy with that Clint 😉
Mine arrived a couple weeks ago - and by golly it's the bee's knees! One of the very best audio purchases I've *ever* made. Note: there's a protective film on the display that's really hard to notice. Peel it off and it's even better.
@@mach1beatsOFFICIAL Thomann have them back in stock now (albeit having jacked up the price considerably !) As a seventies kid who grew up in the eighties this makes me happy in ways I don't really understand :D
Protip: velcro straps instead of zip-ties. They are popular in data centers too. They look better and avoid crunching hard plastic into cables. Looks awesome!
The anomaly with the inputs and outputs allows us to make a few guesses about the circuitry inside. The benefit is almost no added distortion in the signal path. It sounds like it has a group of 1:1 transformers on the signal path between the inputs and outputs. Then it is most likely simply combined to create a mono sum. Then possibly into a small amplification stage before or after the pot labeled sensitivity. From there probably on to a A-D converter and then logic unit on its way to the display. This makes it where it doesn't distort your signal, yet keeps the price down.
I once had a Kawai GMega. You may or may not know this already (probably do), but it's a bit more than just a General MIDI module. It's possible to program patches based on the built-in rompler tones and filter params. There was a big archive of patches floating on Yahoo! Groups back in the day, and some of them actually sound really decent.
Of course it's the same on the 05R/W and the later X5DR. Interestingly Rick Wakeman still had a X5DR in his rack but his racks were stolen last year so I assume it's gone.
Ha. I ordered one right after the techmoan episode too. It was backordered so I just got a couple of weeks ago and I love it. Flippin ‘eck I hope thomann is giving Technoan a commission intit!
That's so frickin cool man. Is it weird that I got excited for you when I saw the thumbnail? Maybe it's because I'm a fellow "look the lights are moving to the music and that's kinda cool"-person.
You can Gary, I searched and searched and finally found one, they are available in the U.K or Germany, it is a company called Thomanns, I ordered one on a Sunday afternoon and had it that following Friday, price was awesome as well, I would give u the link but am afraid it might take you into my account with them
I got the express shipping and had it in less than a week, if you purchase one, they also have what the call The "T Racks DB Display" its a unit about the same size, it has the metered lights, green to yellow to red, I purchased that to go with it, its very cool, when you open that likn, just scroll straight down and you will see it
Nice demo mate.. I found your placement of the unit a little different to mine.. I keep mine on top (right under the power strip) I found it so much easier to see on stage.. I now run multiple units for different synths.. Gives a fantastic visual feedback on frequencies when using multiple synths clocked together.. Cheers 🍻 🍀🔈🎶
I just thought to myself, hey that analyser reminds me of the one in the Sound Blaster multimedia stack system thing; remember that cool piece of software? Back in the day all cards had these multimedia centre software apps, but the Creative one was always by far the best. Anyway, it then hit me... You need a floppy midi player device to pump MIDI tracks into this rig! Failing that, I wonder if you can get a Pi/Arduino device that can play from USB or microSD... anyway, food for thought!
dB Meter is underway.. but you already know that. ^_^ (And I see you also discovered the same crap I found out with mine, that the audio isn't sent across each connector type. That's a bummer.. but it is what it is I guess ;))
It would need some clicky buttons to mux input and output so it could keep its un-powered passthrough. Though if it did allow for this yould have to worry about line level vs mic level. Passivley it lets you forget about that. For this a simple adapter provably would be fine c:
@@Jon-yh3gb I guess the passive pass through is too different between balanced an unbalanced types that they couldn't do it without messing up the balanced signal in an all-XLR setup. Because a balun does have a frequency characteristic.
Very cool. Would it be possible to find a larger rackmount box and put in a couple of small studio monitors? Then you'd have a self-contained MIDI BOOMBOX
That really is a nice analyser. I'd personally swap it with the pile'o'dials above but I don't recall from the original rack vid if there was some fitment issue with that anyway. I'm sure I recall something not fitting at the bottom.
Haha after hearing how you were disappointed about the crappy one and that techmoan reviewed too and when I saw techmoan do this one I figured you would not be too far behind.
A windows 98 pc randomly turning on while recording a video is one of the most LGR things i've ever seen.
I would have expected that random Windows 98 boot sounds would be common in the LGR studio, but given his reaction, it seems not.
you mean heard? :)

its like that episode of Futurama when a Windows logo appears like a ghost with the start up sound of 98
The comments in Techmoans video was largely saying how much LGR (Clint) would enjoy one of them.
Im glad he was able to get one
Not even a minute in, and we get iconic sounds from the past.
Gave me a good chuckle.
