Thanks for the video! I just started having problems with it on my 95 this morning. Going to the parts store tomorrow to get the board. The wipers never stopped working, but the intermittent function was going haywire. Best to catch it while it's still working!
I love the 3m strip caulk for automotive work. Like you said, you're only trying to waterproof it. If you need it thinned down, you can roll a few inches at a time between your fingers into a thinner rope and then slightly overlap the strips (it gets unweildy to try to thin any more than a few inches at a time). Nice work! Thanks for sharing.
This is good, but I fixed my old control board. All it took was going over the solder joints on the back with a hot soldering iron. Mainly the ones near the plug ins on the back of the board. I didn't even remove the board, just the 3 screws and cover. Cold solder joints is the main problem with these boards. It's rare for a component to go bad.
I open it completely.... Touches all the Soldering Joints. During putting it back, I put Red RTV Silicone in / around anything I see that can lead to " Moisture / Rain ", YES COMPLETELY SEALED!!! So far after that fixed, the Wiper is doing AOK. It's almost a year now and no issues so far :).
thank you for making this video it was very helpful and as for your cruise control try making sure that the cord is connected to your engine from the cruise control box under your hood
I have a 1994 GMC Suburban 1500 that has a similar issue! I have the same model style multi function switch so I'll be looking for that box to try changing that plug out! 👍
Thank you sir, my 1990 1500 has the same problem. My cruise works, but the wipers do the same thing and sometimes get stuck at odd angles. I'll get a new board then, seems easy enough.
That coating is Conformal Coating. It protects the circuit from accidental Eclectic Static Discharge (ESD). You could also re-solder the cold solder joints.
I would de-solder it and use electronic flux to clean the connections and add new solder. Do not use plumbers flux. Its corrosive to electrical components. Don't use rosin core solder. 70/30 solder only. If you use the rosin core it has a higher probability of cold solder joints.
Pink? I had an '01 S10 blazer that had the orange gm coolant. Went through 3 heater cores, a water pump, and a radiator before it had 60K miles. I only use the green stuff now.
I have 1990 Chevy k1500 wipers were doing the same thing yours was but the 1990 has the old style motor had to replace the whole windshield wiper motor!
I am using my 1990 Chevy truck for a project truck it's one of the best Chevy trucks I've owned other then my old 1978 I used to have! I just want to say I enjoy your repair videos especially the one on the 350 engine build you did for your stepsons truck you build them like a pro would!
Thanks Greg. It amazes me at the cost difference right now between the mid-80's chevy trucks and the 88-98 trucks. It's a good time to be buying parts for your '90 ;) Used to be cheap to maintain the square bodies but part costs have really increased!
Farmboy, thanks for making this video! I have that same issue, they don't wanna shut off until they feel like it, thanks!!! Also, with the cruise it might be your brake light switch, I not that sounds strange, but it might be, the brakelight switch is a multifuction under the dash connected to the brake peddle. I fixed that issue on accident. My brake lights wouldnt shut off, I replaced the switch now I magically have working brake lights and cruise control. I would suggest getting the switch from NAPA, I had to replace the Autozone one a couple times.
I would think they are the same. You can check on Autozone's website. Look for wiper motor pulse board module. There may be a difference for delay & non-delay wipers.
I've had two of these boards go out on me both times I was driving through heavy rain. Now after parting out my last blazer I keep it's wiper board in my toolbox so I can fix it on the side of the road if it happens again.
Be careful when replacing the headlight switch. It is attached to the dash bezel with very small screws that will strip out if you pull on it too hard. I learned that the hard way ;) If your low beams work, I'd suspect the turn signal switch is bad. That's what activates the high beams.
farmboy30117 my low beams don't work just my high everything else work except my low beam I replaced those bulbs still they don't I should replace My dimmer switch column mount???? What about my HDM could that be a problem ? fuses look good
Check the ground wires going to the low beams. Also, check that you have power to the low beams at the headlight. I don't think it's in your switch unless it will not switch from high to low beams
You'll probably notice that YOUR box won't have the silicone junk slopped all around the edge since the factory doesn't use it because the plastic seals the box against outside moisture. Someone had tried fixing THIS one by spraying some kind of water sealant on the circuit board AND putting a bunch of silicone around the edge. Then he probably found out that didn't fix it. What the problem was GM had some poor solder joints at the connections from the plug to the board, if you search through the fixes on TH-cam there's one that shows you the ones that just need the solder joints reheated to make proper connection. It's that simple, no money involved, (unless you don't own a soldering iron g.
+Delton Streetman - I open it completely.... Touches all the Soldering Joints. During putting it back, I put Red RTV Silicone in anything I see that can lead to " Moisture / Rain ". So far after that fixed, the Wiper is doing AOK. It's almost a year now and no issues so far :).
I have the same problem on my 2001 lesabre, I've tried three brand new motors with no luck, the module is about the same price as a whole new motor, I read that the problem might be on the turn signal stalk assembly, the wipers just go crazy no matter what position the switch is in, a new one is around 325.00 so I want to make sure that's the problem, it's also not a fun job by the looks of it.
this doesn't apply to the video but did you do a video about diagnosing a window problem cause the drivers side window in my 1990 silverado wont roll down but the passenger will
Help me please. I have a 94 Chevy k1500 ext cab. It ought to be a crime that I can't get the damn wiper blades changed by myself. How do you remove these that connect via side pin? And how do I get them back on? There aren't any good clear videos that I can find. Thank you for your time.
just give it a good tug away from the wiper arm. It's just held on by spring tension. If tugging don't work, stick something between the blade and the arm and pry it away.
@@farmboy30117 lift the wiper blade off the windshield, take a flat screwdriver and pull the tab on the top out, then wiggle the arm back and forth away from the window till it is separated.
Best advice is to take a look at the new blade plastic connector part, look at the diagram/drawing for side pin style that comes with new blade. There is a tab you press to get it started. Sometimes they are stubborn but it is extremely simple. Best to use cardboard, a towel or something to protect the windshield.
Hey did you ever swap out your wiper/cruise switch? If you did and taped it that would help out so much. Im pretty leary takeing appart the steering column to swap out the cruise wire. Mine either was cut or broke right at the swith itself. Also where did you find the new switch
No, I never did but it's not that hard a job. You will need a steering wheel puller and a compression tool to get the clip off the steering shaft. I've got a steering column out in the shop, I should make a video on it. Stay tuned..
farmboy30117 I need help with that too. I tried replacing the lever from the bottom but hit a dead end. This video was the closest for knowing I need to take the steering wheel off. My cruise control also stopped working about 6 months ago and then I turned the the wipers on a cold morning the other day and the whole lever cracked. Hope you can make your video soon.
those windshield wiper motors had a recall on them when they first come out you had replaced the part that they recommended on yours that looks like it would have taken care of it mine you couldn't replace just the circuit board had to do the whole motor but like you said they make both types only cost 48 bucks wasn't too bad!
Easy enough. My question is, where did you get the lower dash fuse panel cover? I need one. Also, less than 200K miles on your truck. I am pushing 360K on my '94.
The cover is original to the truck. My guess would be a junk yard or maybe eBay. I'm the third owner and the 2nd owner didn't put many miles on it. It was my daily driver but now it's mostly used for trash runs.
If you know how to solder take out the old board and resolder the 5 points where the plug attaches to the board The original board is higher quality than the replacements just needs the solder joints fixed
I only wish that the control board was the issue. Replaced it and no change. Wipers don't work on intermittent, low or high. Washers don't squirt when I press the tab, but the wipers turn on????
My 98 Chevy Z71 is 20 years old, I have been through 3 of these Control Units, tried soldering the old Board as shown in several video's, it didn't work....
I forgot to say I have a 98 chevy s10 pick up. Just recently I had a problem with the brake lights not going off. Changed the brake switch--still didn't go off. Had a test done on the electrical and they said it was the multi-function switch in the column. Changed it, then the brake lights went off. Next day they stayed on again. Shop said it was a loose connection. Next day the headlights wouldn't go off. So, everything works now and goes off after $700. So, if I have to buy that part for my wiper can you tell me how much they cost? I also have to replace my driver wiper arm. The arm striped out.
My son went out to tighten the arm which I need to replace and when we turned on the wipers, they wouldn't work. So, we barely touched the board and the wipers started working. So it's off to the auto parts store to buy that board. Thanks again.
this is happening to my truck but it will stay either in the middle or all the way and I have to wait and click it several times before it goes back to normal state I'm going to try and see if this will fix it hopefully it will very helpful on your video have seen a few already mine is a 1990 Silverado
+henry bazan Hopefully yours uses the same type wiper motor. I have heard they made different ones, so be sure it looks the same before ordering the board.
I think you will find that both the two contacts aren’t at the right height to make contact with the rotating disc! Both contacts need to be at least one inch from the printed circuit board to the top of both contact strips! That’s if no soldered joints haven cracked.
Just did mine on a '96. Pop the hood and its right above the drivers side valve cover on the firewall. Three T-20 bolts, undo one connector and its out. Napa part number 49-700PB Wiper Pulse Board. About $25.
I've been looking at videos on here all night and it seems like yours is help the most so I would like to thank you just call me mister Michigan thank you
I have a 1989 Silverado w/delay wipers and the wiper motor is different from the one shown in the video. Were there different ones installed or has someone replaced my motor with a different one? Anyway....something is wrong!
Is there an adjustment on the linkage, in the cowl, for the position the wipers stop at? My drivers side wiper appears to park about an inch higher than the one in this video at 0:45.
Nice!! I just bought an old 93 Step-side I'm going to restore with the same issue. I'm starting here. Crossing my fingers that I don't have to replace the other part that I have to go tear the steering column apart. This looks easier to fix.
Over 2 million trucks recalled from GM for this issue. But many years were not included in that recall, my 1990 was not included. But it had the same problem. Very poor effort from GM not to recall every vehicle from 1988 and up that has this problem. And mine had the older style rectangular circuit board in the wiper motor - That you cannot buy ANYWHERE. So my only fix was to replace the entire wiper motor. and as far as your turn signal arm having issues, that is not that big a deal to replace. I did mine as well. But it did not resolve the flaky windshield wiper issues. To my knowledge, the only way you fix that is to either replace your circuit board, or replace the entire wiper motor. It has nothing to do with the wiring going from the turn signal arm down into the wiring harness. Because that's what I thought I was going to have to do. Turns out as not the issue at all. All you have to do is Google the phrase "possessed windshield wipers Chevy truck," and you will see all kinds of people complain of this same dumb wiper issue. I have many videos on my page about working on this same generation of Chevy truck.
Thanks for the info David! It's been a few years since I replaced this board and it's starting to act up again by coming on when commanded. Never got around to replacing the stalk, but I have one. I also have a new wiper motor that I want to put on it when I get a chance.
@@farmboy30117 Yeah, I replaced the turn signal arm and it didn't fix the problem. So I doubt that's it. Replace the whole wiper motor, and be done with it - is my only answer for this ridiculous issue.
The speedometer/odometer on one of mine was wacked-out. Wouldn't display the speed correctly and would randomly roll back the mileage when it felt like it.
Do you know if there's sort of indicator light on the instrumentation cluster that comes on when the switch is turned on? If there is, I'm not getting anything. But I'm more concerned with the wipers.
Thanks for the video. I did this and the wipers still dont work. I can hear the wiper motor, so I dont think that is the problem. Do you have any more suggestions or ideas? Thank You.
Sorry to hear that! Not sure what problem you are having, but if it's not in the circuit board and not in the motor, it's probably in the switch on the steering column.
Your wiper linkages have popped off of the wiper arms under the cowl. The motor turns the linkage arms that rotate the wiper arms. The linkages attach to the wiper arms via plastic press-together joints that pop apart when worn so pop it back togetjer and it might last a minute ir a month or a year or buy new linkages and it will last 10 years.
that's great ! I had a jasper put in mine back last fall the rocker arms started squeaking and I took it back to the place I had it put in at they tried telling me it was belt tensioner and everything but the engine i got enough and took it to another shop here in town and he found all the rocker arms weren't oiling on both sides when it got warmed up and they got me another engine and jasper took care of everything so far so good on the other engine!
I put a brand new one in 5 years ago factory gm after the warranty was up it blew a headgasket but at least it made it 3years! the quality of our parts in the us has definitely changed in the last 20years that's for sure!
i have a 91' gmc sierra and the windshield wipers are weird. on the switch it is off, low, and high, but for some reason, off is off, low is high, and high is off. do you think that if i replace that control panel it might fix this problem? it also takes like 5 seconds for the windshield wipers to turn off when i move the switch to off.
It definitely sounds like the circuit board as far as taking a long time to shut down, but I wouldn't rule out a problem with the switch as well. I'd try the board first to see if that solves the problem because it is much easier to replace than the switch in the column.
I think this is the same problem I had this morning.... while it was raining :( I had the wipers on delay mode, then they'd start wiping like it was on low, then back to delay mode. When I turned them off, they'd continue to wipe for a bit. Finally they shut off with the wipers about 3-4" from the "parked" position. What are your thoughts? Thanks!
does this fix the squeekiness of the windshield wiper blades or how have any of you fixed that problem, I have bosh wipers which are supposed to be quiet but damm they squeek so much
No, it won't fix squeaky ;) Sounds like you have a film on your windshield. I've used a clay bar before to clean the windshield. I'm sure there's vids on here about that. Also, Coca-Cola (or Pepsi) will remove film too. Just be sure to wash it off good or it'll leave a sticky mess ;)
I a 95 chevy 1 ton dually 4x4 that I have changed the wiper motor ,pulse board and the wiper turnsignal asy.and still doesn't work help tired of spending money needlessly.
My wipers will work just fine one second then they will stop working all together. Then they may start working but won't quit until I turn the truck off.
Thanks for the video! I just started having problems with it on my 95 this morning. Going to the parts store tomorrow to get the board. The wipers never stopped working, but the intermittent function was going haywire. Best to catch it while it's still working!

thank you for making this video it was very helpful and as for your cruise control try making sure that the cord is connected to your engine from the cruise control box under your hood
I'll do that, but I'm pretty sure I have a bad brake switch. Maybe one day I'll get around to fixing it.

That coating is Conformal Coating. It protects the circuit from accidental Eclectic Static Discharge (ESD). You could also re-solder the cold solder joints.
Thanks for the info!
What do you mean by re solder the cold solder spots?
You basically find where the solder is cracked and reheat it with a solder gun to make it have connection.

i have 92 1ton chevy van hope this works for me ....thanks for making the video
Thanks, I hope it does too!
this is happening to my truck but it will stay either in the middle or all the way and I have to wait and click it several times before it goes back to normal state I'm going to try and see if this will fix it hopefully it will very helpful on your video have seen a few already mine is a 1990 Silverado
+henry bazan Hopefully yours uses the same type wiper motor. I have heard they made different ones, so be sure it looks the same before ordering the board.
88-90 had a different motor. You have to buy the whole motor which looks like the one he has and it comes with the board.
thank you for the tip wasn't aware of that
thanks great video my burbs been driving me nut the wiper shut off when they want to
I think you will find that both the two contacts aren’t at the right height to make contact with the rotating disc!
Both contacts need to be at least one inch from the printed circuit board to the top of both contact strips! That’s if no soldered joints haven cracked.
Good info. It started acting up again last year. Sometimes it won't turn on when it's raining. :(
Just did mine on a '96. Pop the hood and its right above the drivers side valve cover on the firewall. Three T-20 bolts, undo one connector and its out. Napa part number 49-700PB Wiper Pulse Board. About $25.
+Torque655 Saved me a phone call, thx
+Jack Reacher just scored a new one of eBay.
Open it up and " Re-Touch " ALL the Soldering Joint = FREE !!!
Thanks! Great video, keep them coming!
update they work like new again thanks again farmboy30117
I've been looking at videos on here all night and it seems like yours is help the most so I would like to thank you just call me mister Michigan thank you
Thanks, I'm glad it helped! Happy Holidays!
Where did you get the 3m caulk you used to seal the cover with and how much. I'm wanting to do mine but need something to seal with!
Make sure your wiper has the circuit board. I don't think the older chevy's had it.
Are you gonna put a nice exhaust system on this truck?
Did you check at the Chevy dealer? Looking on Autozone's website it shows the same as mine.
I have a 1989 Silverado w/delay wipers and the wiper motor is different from the one shown in the video. Were there different ones installed or has someone replaced my motor with a different one? Anyway....something is wrong!
There were some different wiper motors installed in these trucks between model years, but someone could have installed a non-delay motor in there too.
Is there an adjustment on the linkage, in the cowl, for the position the wipers stop at? My drivers side wiper appears to park about an inch higher than the one in this video at 0:45.
I believe you can pop the wiper arm off the drive stud and move it a few notches
is it pasta bowl for this to be the problem if they(whipers) just stopped workin. like they want to cycle just don't.
Nice!! I just bought an old 93 Step-side I'm going to restore with the same issue. I'm starting here. Crossing my fingers that I don't have to replace the other part that I have to go tear the steering column apart. This looks easier to fix.
Hope it fixes your issue!
Does that board control the washer fluid pump too?
I believe it does
Thanks! I'm about to put the new board in. We'll see if it does the trick.
Yes
This guy was the inspiration for Arthur Morgan's voice.
Great Video
Jason Conant Thanks!
@@farmboy30117 And if yours has the newer style circuit board, those are cheap to get at auto parts stores. Mine didn't have that though. :/
The speedometer/odometer on one of mine was wacked-out. Wouldn't display the speed correctly and would randomly roll back the mileage when it felt like it.
What did you find regarding the cruise control?
+Jack Reacher Haven't bothered trying to fix it yet.
Do you know if there's sort of indicator light on the instrumentation cluster that comes on when the switch is turned on? If there is, I'm not getting anything. But I'm more concerned with the wipers.
There should be a light. I'll check to see if mine comes on when I get a chance.
Thx
Your welcome, It should work
You're welcome, glad it helped
how is that new engine doing you put in your 1993 truck?
Still running good. I've been meaning to make a long-term update video on it.
that's great !
I'm glad I decided to go with a brand new engine instead of a rebuilt one.
I put a brand new one in 5 years ago factory gm after the warranty was up it blew a headgasket but at least it made it 3years! the quality of our parts in the us has definitely changed in the last 20years that's for sure!
Good grief! And now they come from Mexico!
You're welcome. The boards are not very expensive. I found mine on ebay.
It would help out emensly. Thank you.
i have a 91' gmc sierra and the windshield wipers are weird. on the switch it is off, low, and high, but for some reason, off is off, low is high, and high is off. do you think that if i replace that control panel it might fix this problem? it also takes like 5 seconds for the windshield wipers to turn off when i move the switch to off.
It definitely sounds like the circuit board as far as taking a long time to shut down, but I wouldn't rule out a problem with the switch as well. I'd try the board first to see if that solves the problem because it is much easier to replace than the switch in the column.
thanks for that great view-it helped
I believe it is a T20 torx
My gmc subarban 92 if wipers starts once then it's won't stop again unless switch off engine 2 or 3 time.
Sounds like the control board, but could be the switch.
Thanks
I think this is the same problem I had this morning.... while it was raining :( I had the wipers on delay mode, then they'd start wiping like it was on low, then back to delay mode. When I turned them off, they'd continue to wipe for a bit. Finally they shut off with the wipers about 3-4" from the "parked" position. What are your thoughts? Thanks!
+Jack Reacher Sounds like another bad board.
I'll try reheating possible cold solder joints first. If still no joy, R&R the board. Thanks!
New board fixed it
Wherever they're the cheapest. Usually ebay, but if I'm in a hurry, I use Advance Auto and buy online to get the discounts.
Cool where do you buy your parts?
does this fix the squeekiness of the windshield wiper blades or how have any of you fixed that problem, I have bosh wipers which are supposed to be quiet but damm they squeek so much
No, it won't fix squeaky ;) Sounds like you have a film on your windshield.
What's it doing?
check the fuses ? also could be a short
Check for bad bulbs turn signal brake etc. and if you have trailer light hook ups check tag lights....possibly the grounds anywhere close.
I have envoy 2004 when ever I turn the ignition on the wipper and washer starts working.pls help
Thank you buddy!!
My cruise issue turned out to be the brake light switch. Works perfectly now
I think that’s my issue too. Just haven’t gotten around to changing it. 👍
If your wipers do not have delay you may not have a control board.
Sounds like the control board
my truck makes this errr noise and doesn't work at all and im getting fustrated i wiggle the clip that goes to it it works again then stops
any advice
+jaime figueroa It sounds like it has a bad connection at the connector. Make sure all the contacts are clean and there's no corrosion in the plug.
+farmboy30117 it might be when i slightly pull it out it starts to work then when i push it in it stops
+farmboy30117 would you by any chance know the parts name and price
No, sorry
Thank you!
My wipers will work just fine one second then they will stop working all together. Then they may start working but won't quit until I turn the truck off.
How much is that? And what's it called?
Ryan Jordan It's called a wiper motor pulse board module. They run about $25.
Thank you sir!!
You're welcome! Glad it helped!
sounds like mine. mine works only on high and no window squirter.my cc works.
