- In this video I tackle the problem of the occasional failure of either the wipers or washer motor on a full size Chevy or GMC truck. The fault deals with a dry solder connection on the wiper board...its an easy fix and I show you how.

13 years later, this old gal just fixed her wipers Thanks to you!! Sure appreciate this video!

Awesome. Yeah, it was an old trick when I shot this video, still works as well today.
@@Turbo231 I've never soldered anything at all, but had to try lol. It worked perfectly!! You saved my butt since I live in a really rainy state.
me being a go get her type a guy i had to do this in the middle of the night in 30 degree weather wouldn’t believe my excitement when i felt the washer fluid touch my face when my head was out the window. thanks for the tip!
You are welcome! Simple fixes are the best!
I was gonna buy a new wiper motor for my 94 Chevy 1500 and decided to look on TH-cam on how to replace it. Well I stumbled on this video and tried it and my wipers work perfect now! I had the same problem with the fluid not working. And my wipers wouldnt stop when i turned them off! And they wouldnt turn on at times either! Thank you sir for the post!
I purchased a $3.99 soldering iron and a $3.49 lead-free rosin core solder to re-solder the 5 points displayed in this video. My dad has a 1997 Chevy Z71 Silverado 1500 and the DIY fix worked like a charm! Not only did it correct the problem with erratic intermittent wiping, but the problem with no wiper fluid spraying. Many thanks for the tutorial which saved me at least the cost of a new wiper pulse control board ($20-something from auto parts store).
This worked awesome on my truck , now it sprays fluid again 👍
Yeah, it works on all sorts of cars actually, I opened up my 1993 Lumina APV and fixed it with some soldering.
This video is perfect. I picked up a motor at a boneyard and swapped the board into mine and it works like a charm. My truck is a 94 model. Keep up the good work Sir.
Thanks. You saved me 60 dollars, I was going to get a new wiper motor today until I saw your video. $3.96 cent later and a quick solder, my 94 GMC truck wipers works great.
Just did this for my 1992 Chevy Cheyenne 1500, and it worked! I have to admit, I was skeptical, but after seeing all the comments that it worked, I gave it a shot, Thanks!
S. Mark Glenn Awesome!
Well I'm sure I'm not the best solderer in the world but, I tried this because my washers stopped working and now it does all kinds of crazy shit. I'm 65 and needed something to spice up my life so thanks a lot. My ass is spiced up now. lol
Worked like a charm. and saved me a good deal of money to have a mechanic do it, huge thanks for the help!! God Bless!!
Thank you for this video, friend! Saved my $30 on a new control card. I popped out the control board and immediately saw the broken connection furthest from the plug. Soldered it back and BAM, Nailed it! 🍻
Wish I had seen this before!!! My wiper fluid still isn't working but my wipers are. Taking back the new motor tomorrow. I've been dealing with this for 2 years. Such a simple fix, THANKS!!!!
My husband repaired his successfully today using your advice and it was easy. Thanks for the help!
Bro, 12 years and your video still helping people.
Fixed mine, thank you so much
1994 GMC Sierra
Where do I send the beers? 😅
It’s all good, although when I shot the video they weren’t as classic as they are today. :)
I've been dealing with this for several years on my '98 Silverado. I don't drive it much, but when I do - it's usually when I need the wipers. With too many vehicles to maintain / repair, I've been wingin it on the truck and getting wipers / washers to work by wiggling connection or banging on the motor / board box which eventually gets it working. Your video nails my problem, and I'll have it fixed shortly! Thanks! Great video!
Was having problems on a '98 GMC K-1500 with the wipers sometimes working and other times not working at all. Jiggling the wiring connector would temporarily fix the problem but not for long. Watched this video and decided to inspect the circuit board as he suggests. Under a lighted magnifier I could see that every soldered connector contact on the circuit board was cracked loose or broken. Re-soldered them and the problem was solved, wipers now work as they should. Many thanks Turbo231, you helped save an old retired guy some bucks.
This fix was so simple! I've been dealing with this issue for several years and it's finally fixed, thank you sooooooo much!
Awesome! Had issues with both my wipers and washer. The wipers would not stop when the should, occasionally stop mid-wipe and my washer was less than intermittent. Had just ordered a new board when I stumbled upon your vid, made perfect sense. Cancelled the order and went out and removed and resoldered all the connnector points. Everything is now working perfectly! Thanks for saving me the $$$
Thank you so much, I spent 0 dollars to fix this issue. I had all the supplies laying around. I was about to replace the motor
Awesome, good to hear!
I'm such a dumb ass, my washer hasn't workt since I bought the truck 1 month ago. After watching your video I realised I have been turned the outer part to mist, instead of pushing the inner part. I feel soo stupid, but it was a quick fix, thank you! :)
been fighting this for over 10 years Everyone said I had to buy a motor and or circuit board, but i just kept wiggling the wires. Watched this video and fixed it in 4 minutes!!! thanks.
I know this was 11 years ago, but just had this problem now, watched your vid and it worked like a charm! Thanks for the vid
Sure thing, car issues are timeless.
Awesome, have spent the whole day replacing the multifunction switch, check wiring etc. Then I saw this video ... within 5 minutes it all worked again .. THANKS !! 1996 Chevy K1500
This worked! I have 98 Suburban. Wipers worked, spray did not. I did just as suggested and now the spray works! Thank you. Great video.
Worked like a charm! No more sitting on the side of the highway in the pouring rain fiddling with the wires. Thanks!
OK ... This is a GREAT VIDEO and the truck is exactly like mine only I'm a 97. I tried this and then reinstalled the board and nothing worked, wipers, sprayers .... so I re-soldered adding extra solder and put everything back. All worked except the passenger side sprayer ... I then put a straight pin in the hole and felt nothing ... but when I tried everything ... the wipers were working better and all sprayers worked fine after a couple tries ... Thanks you saved me money that took 30 minutes to fix at home ....
Hey Turbo! Thanks a bunch. The whole thing took maybe 20 minutes start to finish. Voila! Resoldered 7 points, put some gasket goo around the cover edge before reattaching, and all the wiper and washer actions work just as they should. Appreciate the tip....
I had this exact problem, but doubted your fix... Tried it anyways, and it worked like a charm. Thanks for posting!
I normally don't post...but had to give you props. Your soluion worked perfectly on my 99 Tahoe. I was very, very pleased. Thanks man. Really appreciate it!
9 year old video just saved me a lot of frustration, thank you!
Thanks! I can see clearly now, the rain is gone...
But this is quite helpful for the next time it rains.
thanks for the video. wash wouldn't work on my 99 Chevy. Wipers would come on, but wouldn't shut off. Followed your instructions and everything worked fine!
damn, I was prepared to attempt to purchase or repair the multifunction lever, the window wiper switch which apparently is next to the lever, and the wiper motor. I got 5 hours and 40 dollars deep before finding this and holy moly that was easy. Plus those damn levers were running $80-150 online. Learned a good amount though along the way. Thx for the vid.
Yeah, it’s a tricky one but once you know, you know.
My washer fluid pump on the 2000 Yukon wasn’t working. Very little voltage at the plug. Pulled the board and noticed a slightly cracked solder joint. Resoldered all of the joints you mentioned. Got 12v at the plug afterwards! Had to replace the motor too, but this video did the trick thanks for the help!
Wow! As many have commented, I was looking for a video to speed up the replacement prior to purchasing a new one, and found this. Broke out the soldering iron and Voila! Thank you very much.
Hey sir...just wanted to say thank you for your post. I just tried it on my 97 chevy pu and it worked like champ! Saved me a lot of trouble shooting and firing the parts gun. Thanks again.
You are welcome, I am glad it helped.
Well this halfway fixed it for my 1990 C1500. Gonna have to check the fluid line on the passenger side for blockage, but the driver side is working much better after not spraying at all. Appreciate the video!
I have that right now, my passenger squirter is broken.
It worked on my 1995 GMC Jimmy 4.3L Vortec, yet access is tighter because of the angle, wires and vacuum lines. Great Video! THANK YOU!!!
Hey Dude thanks for the video. My 98' Tahoe was not spraying & your video took care of the problem! I just finished up the soldering & it works great now! My fluid is spraying again!! (LOL) Man what a easy fix! Thanks again & take it easy! \m/
I just did this and it worked great, all the joints on the back of the board looked fine but a couple I applied more solder to and it sucked a bunch down to the other side. Re-installed and worked great! Don't forget to add more solder. My truck is a 96 S10, and it was pretty hard to get to but I eventually got it.
I would like to thank soo much for your video, my 92 GMC pickup had the same problem and now it works great! I had no clue what to about the wipers and then I saw your video!!CHEERS.
I wish I had seen this video before changing out the wiper motor on my 92 Cheyenne. Great video!
After like 10 years of not knowing, now I know. Thanks alot brother 🙏
You are welcome.
Thanks. I resoldered the 5 posts and it magically fixed my wiper washed that stopped working on my 1999 suburban.
Thanks.
Thank you!!!!! Soooo much!!! Obviously you can probably tell this worked for me. Quick and easy. Saved me some money and time. Which are both not easy to come by. Thanks again
Excellent video! I took my 1997 Suburban's board out, and re-soldered it, and it fixed the problem immediately!Thank you very much for the information!
it does work, did mine a few hours ago. Thank you so much, you just saved me 30 dollars, I was going to buy a used part at the auto salvage when I came across your video. Thanks again
Thank you..had this exact problem...1991 Silverado
Fixed..saved hundreds👍
Cheers for the video - just did mine today and it worked like a charm on my 98 Chevy C1500. Cheers from New Zealand!!!
bought myself T20 screwdriver for $8 and touched up solder connections......simple fix .
THANKS for the info.
Thank you, this worked and soldered a broken copper flat wire on the circuit board. The solder said for electronic parts.
Try this first like I did before soldering anything, after I unplugged the unit I noticed the gray deposits that form on the prongs due to age on the male side of the plug, I cleaned the plug up well with some brake clean on a q-tip and sprayed the female side, I plugged and unplugged them a few times to make good contact, bam, everything worked perfectly again, I didn't need to solder anything so listen to me and try this procedure first, if it works then great if it doesn't then open it up and solder away... 3:42
Yup, plugs can get dirty in any connection although folks often come here when they’ve tried that, or wiggled the plug enough to break those cold solders from the factory.
Fixed my problem with the washer fluid not coming out on my 1995 GMC K3500 6.5L cab chassis. Thanks!
Thanks for your video, I have a '97 Silverado and the fix worked for both wiper and wiper spray wash. 👍
This is a safety recall. Dealer will fix free of charge. Informative video none the less.
Worked perfect for my "wiper wont stop and no washer system" problem on my 95 c3500!
thanks buddy
THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!!
This fix worked like a dream. A sooo simple fix using a soldering iron.
Awesome tip/training! Thanks! I also wonderred about cleaning the contact points too. This has been a very aggravating problem and I'm surprised GM hasn't had a recall on it.
Thanks for the video I was having that exact problem chasing wires pulling my hair out removed the board refreshed the sodder and that fixed it
Just did that & viola.. Worked like a charm both wipers & pump on my 98 Tahoe. Much appreciated 👍🏻
Yes, a fairly simple fix.
Very well done video and description. P. S. They're called "cold" solder joints, probably because they look kind of frosty or because the solder wasn't hot enough when you pulled the iron-tip away.
Thank you for the info. Mine would work here and there then it all of a sudden started humming and quit all together. As soon as I can get the tool to do it I'm gonna give it a shot. I'm hoping it will work instead of having to replace the whole thing.
Thank you so much! This fixed my problem. Saved me a ton of time chasing the circuit.
It a good idea to put a thin bead of silicone on the inside groove around the edge of the cover when reinstalling the module. This is to obviously keep out moisture and shorting the module. This advice is per GM recall procedure guidelines.
Much obliged. A great help to many folks!
A thousand kudos to Turbo231! Don't buy a new board or replace pump before you try this! Wipers been behaving badly for some time. Intermittent stopping. Would stop in odd places when turned off. Then washer pump quit. Found this video and 10 minutes later wiper works like new.
great video, just fixed my chevy truck with the same problem.............wow what a simple fix, thanks for posting this video
I literally was able to fix my issue for $3.12 tax included $1.79 for solder gun and $1.09 for the solder had the Module in my cart said let me try this and it fixed my problem in 10 minutes HahaThanks
10 minute fix, just like the video. THANK YOU!! $112.oo quote from the local Chevy dealer. Cost $27.00 for the part.
Thanks for sharing..for those who may not know always use rosin core solder for electronics not acid core for steel and other metals.
Dude , you are a life saver !! Thank you so much ! I’m back in business 😎
You are awesome! Thanks for this video. I would’ve never guessed this problem. Worked as you said on my 2000 C3500.
Awesome!
Wow! It worked! So simple. I was doubtful at first, and then surprise!
i did that to my 2002 gmc sonoma ... so far so good still working !
Wow, that I was easy - I just replaced my 1994 Yukon wiper motor this past weekend - wish I'd seen this 1st! I did notice that when I removed the old motor and plugged it in again, I was working - so I was not really that it had failed🙁
Worked like a charm in 5 minutes, thanks for the video
Worked thanks alot, I noticed the connections were cracked when I took it off on the 5-6 points. Worked perfectly
THANK YOU!! I've had this issue for years and that just fixed it
THANKS MAN!!!!! SAVED ME A FEW BUCKS FOR SURE THIS WORKS REALLY GOOD
Thank you ! Now my wipers work again ! Saved a lot of money. - 98 Silverado z71 1500
It actually f’n worked. Thank you sir.
Affili Hated Sweet.
Thank you, Thank you I have a 1998 GMC pickup, My father in law has a 1998 Chevrolet pickup, both had the same problem with the wipers and now they both work.
works just fine now..about the simplest car fix I have had tks.
I have a 95 Chevy Suburban and this fixed everything! Thanks!
Awesome video, lots of info yet concise. I love that I know what, why, and how to fix my problem in under 4 minutes without the need to fast forward because I don't want to hear about the weather where you are at, or how much money you saved from the local parts store, your noisy neighbor, why the video is low res, or ... well you get the idea. This is why I don't make videos.
Managed to do this in about 5 minutes, likely would have been faster if my soldering iron would have heated up quicker, think it was because of the extension cord used. To speed the job up I soldered the board without even disconnecting it, My experience has been that the plastics on my electrical connectors are brittle and prone to breaking so I decided it would be faster and less aggravating that way.
This video saved me a lot of money. thanks much.
Sprayer broke for years. Now see this ,fixt in 10 min.❤❤❤
Yeah, my new pump blew apart my connections under the cowl, so need to address that next.
broth thanks I just did that and took me like 5 minutes and now everything works 😁😎 thanks !!!
I just bought a new GM revised board years ago. I think it was $10.. Now that price of course greatly increased!
Exactly the right diagnoses and fix. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for the video, it was very helpful i had the same problem with my truck and thanks to your video now its FIXED :)
Thank you very much.
Great video. Worked like a charm on my S-10! Thanks.
Worked like a charm. Thanks for the upload
Thanks man. Found one broken circuit and fixed it.
THANK YOU!!!!!! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! This is exactly the problem I was facing. Great to the point video.
Awesome!
Just to let you know it is called a cold solder joint I fixed my friends after he went to the junk yard and bought one and it had the same problem as the one he was replacing I used my meter and tested the connect points.
Thanks for the info, and very well done with the video. Hope it works for my truck!!
Great Fix, Thank you!
Mine only acted up when it was raining. I did this and applied silicone to the cover. Fingers crossed
