    Thank you guys for putting this out there , the irony I was just having this conversation with someone on fb about how bad trans rebuilders have gotten these and the cost of the parts as well , for the most part these things are just intimidating cause if all the pieces but you guys get yourselves a book on whatever transmission you want to do , the books are available booths are available out there and they really aren’t as complicated as they seem . Take your time , take pics of you have too , have a clean and well organized work area and you will be surprised at what can accomplish and if at first you don’t succeed try try again until you do because either way you will learn something .

      Agreed! I'm amazed at watching first timers do a job like that and for the most part can get it right vs a so called "pro-shop" who can screw it (and you) the first time they lay hands on your tranny. I am not knocking every shop but the nightmare stories I hear from simple rebuilds all the way up to high horsepower applications is too much for me to digest. I will take the chance doing the work myself.

      @@86Chevymontecarlo Well when it comes to shops, it's all about the reputation. They need to be the best one around, and they need to have a warranty on their work. If you don't research the shop thoroughly there's a higher chance you'll have a bad time.

    I've been rebuilding engines and transmissions since I was 12. I am 47 now. Not sure what you did in the pump, but I hope it's a 13 vane. Also, use a TransGo shift kit, which includes a new pressure vale in the pump. And you should use a wide band vs the stock one. Find a way to stack extra clutch disks where you can. And get an Allison Z-Pack clutch kit too. Get new accumulator pistons for it, and make sure to use an old one as well as a new one in the second gear accumulator. Use washers on the bottom of the shaft to stack both pistons till they are level with the plate surface of the trans. Pull the torque converter lock up valve, and add one of the check balls you are not going to replace, in between the two halves of the valve. Your TransGo kit will also tell you where to drill out holes in the plate. Even though the trans kits come with O-Rings for the bolts for the pump, always use some 3M sealant/adhesive on them as well. And use some to help secure the torque converter seal retainer too! For shafts, I always recommend good billet products. Sonnex is also a good source for top quality products.
    I would also recommend that you get the ATRA rebuild manual for any trans that you are working on. If you need the manual for the 700R4,/4L60/4L60e, let me know, and I will put it on my google drive and post a link.
    I would also like to direct anyone who is planning to rebuild their transmission, to do a search for your particular one here, on Precision Transmission. I've been doing this for a long time, but even I have my heroes! I look up to Richard, and you guys will like him too! th-cam.com/users/PrecisionTransmission
    Here is Richard's teardown of a 4L60 (Basically the same as a 700R4, and just prior to the 4L60e where the electronics were introduced.) th-cam.com/video/_5lRls7UvzQ/w-d-xo.html

      Um I have nearly 400 000km on my stock never pulled or rebuilt 4l60e in my 98 Z71 Silverado and it pulls and hauls all the time trans has never bin rebuilt. Now my 96 Chevy 6.5 diesel 1500 4x4 has 506 000 km and it's on its fourth 4l80e 🤷

      I went thru 2 4L60e's within 115k miles on my stock 09 1500. (4.8) The thing gets too damn hot while hauling/towing anything. I think that trans belongs in the old blazers/trailblazers. Moving a full-size/crewcab truck like a silverado/sierra without a aux trans cooler is a ticking time bomb lol 6L80e was a much needed upgrade in 2009+ paired to the 5.3.

      @@frenchfrysz6695 Don't know what you were doing wrong I've had up to 14k behind my 98 Z71 short trips with that weight but it's done some long distance heavy hauls and yet this original 1998 4l60e is still going strong I have a high torque 5.7 vortec full 3" dual exhaust and no cats and slightly oversized tires. Now I do alot of maintenance to my trucks fluid change's when the light turns green I dont stomp on it I let the truck warm up extra long in the winter time then drive slow for first little while I even let my truck warm up to operating Temp in the summer months and after long trips I let it idle for five minutes before shutting it off. I guess I don't know what I'm doing Ive taken 4l60e's to half a million km not sure what that is in miles but he'll I've owned alot of gm truck's with 4l60e transmissions and I've had great luck. I think alot of bad rap comes from bad owners that thrash on there trucks don't perform regular maintenance and BAD SHOPS REBUILDING SAID 4L60E's that don't know what there doing or there hacks or both! GM transmission rebuilding has bin something I want to get into cause I'm sure within the next 100k my well used 4l60e will need a rebuild and I want to be the one that does it so I know that it'll be done right same goes for my junk 4l80 behind my 6.5 turbo diesel every redneck on the planet talks about how great the 4l80e is yet my 6.5 eats them up for breakfast time for me to start rebuilding my own transmissions.

    • @frenchfrysz6695
      @frenchfrysz6695 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@taylorh3930 I hear you lol i wasn't really gentle with it honestly. Id get stuck in mud/snow a couple times a year, and banging the rev limiter to get out, got it hot. But just towing a trailer with 2 riding lawn mowers (with 200lbs guys in the cab), or a boat would spike the trans temps on the road. 210-220°F. Both times it ate the rear planetary gears.
      It had the torque management in place and everything lol clutches were still "like new" I was pretty much at the fluid/filter service intervals when they failed. Maybe the shop I had didn't do things to the book for the rebuild, I dont know. I didnt do burnouts or anything like that, the TQ management wont let you haha. I did go through alot of temerature intervals with that truck. 0°F+/- to 90°F. I loved the reliability of the engine though. The rest of the truck was plagued with electrical and suspension issues. Nickel and dime me to death ugh.

    Thanks for the video guys!
    I've learned that the 4L60E is similar with the exception of the electronics and the valve body.
    I'll be doing a rebuild and 2wd conversion on my 4L60E that's coming out of my 2001 Suburban. This transmission will be getting dropped into my '68 C10 behind a 2005 LQ4 6.0. Of course I'll be installing the heavier duty clutch packs and sun shell. It has a rebuilt 327 and TH400. It's a very dependable combo, but it's limited in performance and driveability. I am upgrading because I want the EFI and the overdrive, plus the deeper first gear.

    Quick question where would i connect the vacuum line from the torque converter lockup switch on my carburetor?

    • @ThePaulv12
      @ThePaulv12 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's like asking someone how long this piece of string is LOL.
      That said probably doesn't matter because as long as there's vacuum at cruise the switch will know when to apply it ie. 4th and constant light throttle. All it needs is vacuum even if it is an auxilliary port on the brake booster fitting on the intake or on the carb. Ported or unported again probably doesn't matter. If it's ported and there's no vac at idle the tranny isn't in 4th.
      I can't be sure but I think what I said is about right. If I'm wrong someone will tell me you can be assured of that!

    Kinda half a$$ rebuild video guys. I expected more from Power Nation. You didn't even mention the 2004r trans.

    That transmission is old. Since 1985. Plus no cars today use it. MADE IN CHINA #1.
