Can you ladies cover every Tom Waits song? Just brilliant you highlight his beautiful melodies so perfect. Is like he wrote melodies just for you two to sing like songbirds! This world ain't so bad now....
Beautiful! Huge Tom Waits fan here, I rarely find covers that don't feel like they're simply not getting Tom's work right. And you can usually tell it in 20 seconds. Yours is perfect from end to end - not to mention you two are obviously extremely talented. Congratulations and thank you for this!
This is, truly, to me, the most beautiful thing I've ever heard. The sound of the entire track made me so happy that tears welled up. Honestly, that's never happened to me before in all my life. I don't even ever comment on youtube, I'm just so moved right now I can't not.
This is, suddenly and unpredictably, one of the best moments of my life. I'm having flashbacks to all the times I've felt this moved by a surprising or happy movie ending or book or beautifully worded phrase, but I've never had this from music like this before. My gosh, I haven't had this feeling in so long, but it's so instantly familiar and welcomed. When I was young and everything was new, I was constantly bewildered by beautiful moments in life, and somewhere in this intermittent meandering journey through this (seemingly) infinite digital sea of media I've come to embrace the habit of the search rather than the appreciation of lingering in the things I'd found. Of taking time to basque in the beauty of art and go back to the same piece until you notice all the little nuances, and even then you keep finding new ways to appreciate or understand or be inspired by it. Clicking through videos, posts, articles, wallpapers, becomes the norm, the surf becomes second nature, knee-jerk, automatic, more, more, more, another another. Habitual and relaxing, sure, but ultimately thoughtless if you let it. Suddenly I'm connected to myself when the internet was new, the same time in my life where I'd coincidingly learned how to fully appreciate beauty with all my heart. Before I took this ease of surfing and media access so lightly and expectantly. Before experiences left me jaded and obsessive over trying to understand all the problems in the world and in myself. Somewhere along the way I lost touch with who I was a decade ago, the self that had so much left to learn -- yet already had so much figured out. Growing up doesn't always mean giving up the best parts of who you were as a child ; just working on the parts that need working on. I just listened to the audio, but eventually I'll go back and watch the expressions and movements and heart the performers went through in the video. But for now I'm content with finding an audio jewel on the internet. I haven't been this suddenly moved and uplifted since I saw FrenetiCore's Dancing with the Machine live. My gosh, this is such a unique feeling that I can't maneuver my mind to deliberately. I think when your brain hears something it needs to hear or something it really likes, it resonates internally. Resounds, rebounds : a neural extravaganza. I bet a graphical computer model of the part of the brain that can make you feel music so strongly looks like a lightshow. Wonder how far away that technology is from a kickstarter. I don't understand why some art or movies or sounds or phrases give me a strong feeling while others are beautiful and pleasant but not overwhelming. Regardless, this is one of the best and metaphysically satisfying feelings and inspires me to become a good enough artist someday to share this feeling with others too. ================================ Thanks for this song. & to anyone that reads this: have a wonderful and heartfelt next 10 seconds,, & have a wonderful and heartfelt the rest of your life.
What an incredible find. Two faeries that compliment each other perfectly. Sort of reminds me of when I was in highschool and there were female duets at every coffeehouse. Good to see this is still around.
Wow, this is indescribably beautiful. So glad I've found this on tonight's midnight whiskey ramble through TH-cam. I'm hearing the harmonies of the angels!
I'm absolutely gobsmacked. Tom Waits is my favourite songwriter but least favourite singer. Others have picked up his songs and made a hit of them e.g. Rod Stewart but nobody, until now, has truly captured the essence of his songs. In this video we get the lyrics and score of a genius AND the voices of angels. Keep it up. You ABSOLUTELY nailed it.
I agree with another poster that the beauty of the song is the specific way Waits sings it... But screw that you guys made that your own song! Lovely, haunting and peaceful at the same time. LOVE IT
Very impressive and the most important aspect to me anyhow is the fact that you've done it in a new, imaginative fashion. I like it very much indeed! Ron PS I've subbed too. :-)
I am so overcome with the beauty of this cover, ladies! Brought tears to my eyes. I am in love with Tom Waits. You both did an amazing job with this. Now I'm in love with you!!!
Magnifique découverte... pas tout à fait par hazard ! Merci pour cette délicatesse, ce charme, cette légèreté et la petite touche d'humour finale qui en dit long sur votre talent mesdemoiselles. Bravo.
A beautiful rendition even though so different from Waits' I love this piece and have been listening to it since 2008 - hope you guys will come back and sing more!
Over ten years ago and I'm still coming back now and again every time I'm on a Waits cover journey...thanks gals for this gem.
I wanted to like this comment because it's exactly what happens to me and then I saw I had already liked on a previous tom waits covers journey.
Why hasn't this gone viral? By far the best version of this song I've ever head.

If I die and go to heaven, this is what angels will sound like.
