You Won't Believe What I Saw in Guatemala (Acatenango, Lake Atitlàn, Indian Nose)

- A couple years ago, I saw a video of Volcán de Fuego erupting and thought to myself how cool it would be to see something like that in person. After doing some research, I saw that the hike was a pretty common excursion for people backpacking around Guatemala. Although the volcano hike was my main reason to go to Guatemala, I quickly realized that the country had so much more to offer.
Throughout the trip, we mainly stayed in hostels. It was my first time staying in hostels and it was definitely the right decision for me. As someone who loves talking to people and learning about their lives, I found that staying in hostels was the perfect way for me to meet others doing cool stuff. A majority of the people I met were traveling for weeks or months and usually backpacking their way down to South America.
The volcano hike was probably one of the coolest things I’ve ever done in my life. Climbing up a volcano (Acatenango) to see another volcano (Volcán de Fuego) erupting is not something you get to do everyday. Although the hike was pretty hard for me, the guides were super helpful in pacing us and cooking food for us. Nothing could have prepared me for the views of Fuego we saw when we reached base camp and the loud booms we heard while sleeping.
Lake Atitlàn was one of those things that I realized existed after I looked into what to do in Guatemala. I feel like not many people outside of the country have heard of it, but it was such a beautiful area. The high-altitude lake is surrounded by enormous volcanoes and really cool towns.
One of the popular things to do around the lake is the Indian Nose sunrise hike. The Indian Nose is a mountain near the lake that gives a really nice view of the lake. Hiking up the mountain in the dark and sitting at the top to watch the sun come up behind Acatenango in the distance was incredible.

Transportation: We used shuttles to go from and to the airport and also from Antigua to Panajachel. You can book shuttles online or just find a place on the main street of the town you are in to book in person. At Lake Atitlan, we used the boats to get from one town to another.

Hey! Yea we did almost the same things! It was a really good itinerary because we got to experience a lot of different stuff. I would definitely recommend going away from the coast and higher up in San Pedro to experience the culture (if you are into that) since the closer you are to the coast, the more touristy it is. Enjoy your trip!

Just to be fear, after watching the whole video it was the first song that it was out of place, with very vulgar vocabulary but the rest of the songs were good !!!!!!!
