- Lago Atitlan is one of the most beautiful lakes in the world, so to see it from above is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. This hike is strenuous and we recommend being in good shape to attempt it. Although we didn't use a guide we had a good map (Alltrails app) but recommend using a guide for protection and for route finding as there are many ways you can get lost!
Follow along as we trek from the dock (muele) in San Juan de la Laguna to the top of the "nose". Also know as "El Rostro Maya" you can clearly see the profile from most of the lake. It's a difficult hike and wouldn't recommend for people who are afraid of heights, but well worth the views. Although it's good to have an end to journey towards, it's the journey that matters in the end!
Roundtrip from the dock ~4 miles with almost 2500 feet in elevation!

I did this from San Pedro at 2:00 a.m. in the morning. To watch the sunrise with a friend from Switzerland that I just met the day before 😅.... Good hike!!!!
Great video, whew what a climb!
Thanks! It was not easy, but well worth it.
thanks for sharing, and congrats on making it up there. 🙂
Thanks! Did you do the climb as well?

Didn’t meat any robbers on the way? How far was the hike from San Juan?
We saw no other people once we left the main trail. It's only 2 miles up, but it's very steep!
