  • When we moved to Common Farm between Bruton and Wincanton in Somerset nineteen years ago the fields here were sown with thick rye grass for feeding cattle, and other than the occasional rare sight of a single stem of ox eye daisy, or a little campion in the hedge, we had no wild flowers. Now... Have a tour of the flowers that are in bloom now at the end of May on our thick clay fields. Fabrizio has created these meadows with a strict mix of mowing, sowing, plug planting... His annual wildflower meadow workshop is on 12th June this year here at the farm. www.commonfarm...
    And if you want to see what other workshops are coming up in June then the workshop calendar is available here: www.commonfarm...

    That was delightful, thank you! Your vids are an uplifting tonic in this ever stranger world. I’m also in Somerset and have rewilded a communal lawn. Such a thrill to see a boring sterile area become a mini wildlife paradise! ❤ 🌸🌺🐝🦋

    Am I the only one hoping for a 'Fabrizio Cameo'!? Beautiful wildflowers. Looks like heaven on earth.

    That was just fantastic. Thank you so much. I grew up on a small mixed farm back in the 1950s and I remember every field looking like that. I often feel very sorry for the farmers and their animals of today who never get to taste, smell or see such sward. Wonderful. How the land is meant to be.

      totally agree - a dairy farmer friend of ours once looked at the meadow and said 'not many cows would get fat on that.' x

    That was blissful, strolling with you through your wildflower meadow! Here in Oz, we are just at the end of Autumn, and I have discovered, to my great joy, a small tree in a local park, called the Flame Smoke Bush - genus 'Cotinus' - the most divine Autumn colours - blazing orange, pink and scarlet - big fat oval leaves with this glorious colour - makes my heart sing - do you know it, perchance?
    It likes a mediterranean climate, so no wet feet, but otherwise easy to care for. Nature never gets the colours wrong, does she? And all that lovely yellow in your meadow - helps me to buck up, buttercup!

      I grow a few cotinus here though they don't love our wet clay so much xxx

    Just the idea of a balmy! january day in norway 🇳🇴, but we do have a mild spell, a trip outside will lead to a need for hip replacement since the ground is glazed with a dusting of 5 cm snow! Last week was snow armageddon! This week the sun will return after a few months hidden, and peak over the mountain a few minutes a day! ☀️☀️☀️ time to bake sunshine buns!

    What a wonderful life. I'd be up at 6am too and out in your garden from dawn until dusk. I don't have a garden or outside space so this channel fills my cup so much. Thank you for everything you do.

    Best educational video on wildflowers l've seen!
    Reminds me of the scene in Sense and Sensibility
    where Willoughby brings along wild flowers for
    Marianne and she says she likes them best of all!

    Outstanding! How did he start this meadow? I hope the deer can’t get in. I live on 2 acres in the city & we have many deer. I have moved most of my best plants to the backyard ( fenced) . The fight is real & I am old!

    Georgie, I cut wild pink clover from the field and put it in fresh water and the flowers lost their color, Did that ever happen to you?

    • @theflowerfarmer
      @theflowerfarmer  ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't cut clover and watched its reaction - I imagine it would fade like all flowers eventually after cutting x
