agreed. you guys should do more of this. not just one episode of muay thai. do MMA, BJJ and circle back into muay thai. see how you improve through a year.
I have trained at this gym for 4.5 years. In the beginning, I struggled with doing simple jump rope, much like...Jason and Brian. Now I spar with coach Randy and can say that Muay Thai has changed my life, it's as much about the mental aspect of the martial art as the physical. If you live in the area, come give Austin Kickboxing Academy a try!
As a life long martial artist and career instructor it's always so much fun to watch you guys learn. Never coming in with any ego or preconceived notions, just genuinely eager to learn. I'd love to have a gym full of students like y'all
Jason's roundhouse: You need to turn your hips over so that your leg turns 90 degrees. You're doing more of a crescent kick with your toes still pointed up to the air. Your knee and shin should be pointed in the direction you're kicking. You started getting a little better on turning over once you were on the bag but it still needed even more. 28:57 You guys should actually pick one of these and keep up with it for a year and do a video every 3 months to show improvements, that would be awesome!
@@miserywas8285 They are indeed. Over time you will get to know everyone and spar various people with different ability levels. Just remember the golden rule; Only hit as hard as you are willing to get hit while sparring! Go absolutely mad on the pads tho 😉
BRIAN BRUSHWOOD! HOLY CRAP! I remember first time seeing him teaching me magic tricks in "Scam School"! Here I am, a grown up man (almost 30), after watching loads of "Martial Arts" type videos wanting to learn more about "Muay Thai" There he is again!! LOVE to see him again! Big fan! LOVE from Norway! PS: Miss the Guile hair.
I’ve been training Muay Thai for two decades and trained at this gym for two years when I lived in austin. Awesome facility, high skilled guys and Randy and Eric are really good teachers. One of the best gyms I trained at. I miss it!
They gotta do a pro wrestling episode. Looking it up, Dustin Rhodes' school is really close to Austin. Dustin's goofiness mixed with Brain and Jason's would make for one hell of an episode.
You know it's a good teacher when even while watching you can understand when one of the guys makes a mistake or corrects it without being told. Jason, as usual, seems more energetic when watching the jump rope part, if he paced himself more he'd probably last longer. Even though Street Fighter is a game, this does make Sagat and Adon's animations make a lot more sense. Okay, now that you got Street Fighter, lets get some Metal Gear tactical action.
What a great video! I love Muay Thai and have been practicing for a few years now. Randy and Erik seem like such genuine dudes and what a great into the amazing sport. I wish I got this kind of into when I started!
Can confirm, you’d be hard pressed to find better coaches than Randy and Erik. If you’re in Austin or surrounding areas, and have an interest, definitely check out Austin Kickboxing Academy!
Probably one of the best videos you guys have put out. I'm deadass interested in Muay Thai rn. No, wait, I mean Pad Thai. But Muay is pretty damn cool as well. Five star. Heat.
I've been doing martial arts for about 8 years now. For striking I focus mostly on k1 and Dutch style kickboxing but naturally with how popular Muay Thai is I've learned so much of it through seminars visiting gyms while traveling and meeting other kickboxers. He seems to be a very good coach. I think he was moving kind of fast though but I'm sure it was time constraints because of the video. I really hope you guys go often to train in martial arts.
This is awesome, I'd love to see you guys keep up with it. And learn the basics of some other martial arts like Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or Jeet Kune Do(Bruce Lee's martial art)
Of all the things you have done, it looked like you learnt the most in this one. I think because the instruction was so good? Jason looked like a real natural picking it up! But you are all nuts doing this in that heat 😂
Man, I used to use cheap hollow wooden handles with water hose and a bolt/washer screwed into the bore at either end as a rope. Also, no shoes. You soon learn not to hit your toes. Cadence, relaxing and breathing. I miss it.
Wait, you guys didn't actually spar against each other? The application of what you've learned at the end in real sparring against each other was always my favorite part. Concern for getting injured or just totally wiped out from the workout?
I last used a jump rope in school, when I was just under 10 years old, while we were doing a sort of fitness event thing. I have weak joints; my right leg overextended, slammed my kneecap against the bones above and below it, I couldn't walk without pain and a support bandage for a week and wasn't allowed to run or stop using the bandage for three weeks.
Brian has a bit of "chicken butt" going on, as my sifu's wife would call it. Having a little structural tension in your lower abs, just below the belly button (as mentioned in the video) allows you to relax your lower back. This aligns the spine more naturally and "engages" your core. You can see the way the instructor stands, his hips are settled into a very stable position. Even though he's not going to drop as low as a Shotokan or Choi Lay Fut practitioner, still going to be hard to get him off his feet.
Surprised that the injury counter was not reset. They should try Lethwei next. Be interesting to see how that can be taught without the injury counter getting reset.
Anyone who does anything athletic knows that all of your balance resides through the balls of your feet. I cant imagine trying to do anything (running, jumping, kicks, footwork, etc) off of my heels?
I got love for you guys, but for The Modern Rogue to consist of The Warrior, The Gentleman, and The Scoundrel, you got way too much Scoundrel, some gentlemen, and like, miniscule warrior lol
I'm a little sad the boys (i was going to say men, but who are we kidding) .. the boys missed a great opportunity to make an ARM-or joke when they were discussing protecting yourself while attacking.. Great episode
Good teachers, but this was definitively the kids glove version. A real training session (even beginners) would usually be louder and much higher intensity.

Great video fellas. Thanks for doin' what you do.
You have to do a video on learning how to lasso
Sagat was a real person. Just in case you were wondering. At least, the character is based on a real person.
Not gonna lie, saw the notification and said out loud "Oh God they're gonna get messed up."
"The more experienced you are, the more rules you can break" should be in EVERY type of learning class
its fairly common among all schools worth their salt in martial arts...
Learn the rules, break the rules, make the rules
The same principle is in chess; some moves the masters make look like goofy beginner blunders but have lots of high level strategies to back them up
This aligns with the "modern rogue" theme. More of this, whiskey, cigars, building things, destroying things.
agreed I've fallen off a bit but more of this please
agreed. you guys should do more of this. not just one episode of muay thai. do MMA, BJJ and circle back into muay thai. see how you improve through a year.
I agree but lets keep in mind to limit it to what our good friends bodies can handle. Father time is an asshole and he takes no prisoners haha

Prior to disability, I trained in muay Thai for years. It teaches you discipline in so many ways.
Anyone thinking should you try it? Go for it!
Are "group" classes worth it? I cannot afford private ones.

PS: Miss the Guile hair.
I thought guile had a flat top
Yeah. But he said in a video the reason why he had that hairstyle is because he wanted to look like Guile.
That's why I called it "Guile hair".
Randy and Erik are such great teachers! All technique, no ego.
I'm so glad you guys do this because I'm Thai and I do practice Muay Thai
I’ve been training Muay Thai for two decades and trained at this gym for two years when I lived in austin. Awesome facility, high skilled guys and Randy and Eric are really good teachers. One of the best gyms I trained at. I miss it!
"the more you understand the technique the more tired you are " thats how i felt at my first lesson too . made me come back
It is always beautiful to see these guys never being afraid of learning new things, being humble and trying to learn for real, not just for yt
The Modern Rogue... Gentleman, Warrior and Scoundrel... Warrior training at its finest...
Honestly feel like these guys are awesome teachers. Never done anything martial arts related in my life and I want to find a gym near me now!
I won't mind seeing this become a series. That's a sick gym they have there in Austin TX.
They gotta do a pro wrestling episode. Looking it up, Dustin Rhodes' school is really close to Austin. Dustin's goofiness mixed with Brain and Jason's would make for one hell of an episode.
Now, I want to see Jason in the Golddust wig.
I must say... this was one of my favorite "martial arts" videos that you've ever done.

I gotta love that the Muay Thai video is more than twice as long as the longer of their Krav videos. Really makes you think!
What a great video! I love Muay Thai and have been practicing for a few years now. Randy and Erik seem like such genuine dudes and what a great into the amazing sport. I wish I got this kind of into when I started!
Randy is a great trainer -- highly recommend Austin Kickboxing Academy!

Muay Thai is so much fun and gets you in great shape!
The only reason I eventually stopped training was due to an injury
Yeah, there's a reason they start kids in Muay Thai when they're like, 6 years old in Thailand.
Probably one of the best videos you guys have put out. I'm deadass interested in Muay Thai rn. No, wait, I mean Pad Thai. But Muay is pretty damn cool as well. Five star. Heat.

I'd recommend doing muay thai purely for the clinch, SO fun
yes these are great episoides . the sword fighting and martial arts videos are so good it fits your channel and audience verry well
Thanks for the content MR crew always a pleasure
This is awesome, I'd love to see you guys keep up with it. And learn the basics of some other martial arts like Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or Jeet Kune Do(Bruce Lee's martial art)
I think they have done a bit of bjj! It was a while ago tho
Good teaching!! Andy and Erik are very good!!
Will you ever do an episode like this about freestyle and greco roman wrestling? I would love to see that. Keep up the good work :)
Very happy to see the guys try out my favorite martial art, it's a great time!
Their fantastic instructors
Now this, this is peak modern rogue
"I'm Muay Tired." I lost it.
THEY DID IT
NEW ROGUE VID!!!!
Muay Thai is so based I'm gonna learn it ASAP
@@RICDirector it means something superior and great
I have to admit, the title made me think of TANAKA, THAI KICK!
Fans of Downtown Gaki no Tsukai know what's up
TANAKA...THAI KICKU!
I do muay thai for mma. It's honestly my favorite thing to train. Very fun sport.
Been waiting for this one.
Those guys are professionals man. I would have died laughing after watching Jason at 24:47
They realize that everyone has to start somewhere and the important thing is to keep improving.
They have a teacher's mindset. It is as simple as that.
It’s so fun(ny) watching these nerds try different things
Of all the things you have done, it looked like you learnt the most in this one. I think because the instruction was so good? Jason looked like a real natural picking it up!

Jason got some nice moves here. Good job.
Jason, you have such immaculate vibes in this thumbnail. Lookin' rad!
after you made the mai thai I was waiting for this episode
I might M.A. classes. Took a few years of Tae Kwan Do. Fun and useful is a tough combo to beat.
Wait, you guys didn't actually spar against each other? The application of what you've learned at the end in real sparring against each other was always my favorite part. Concern for getting injured or just totally wiped out from the workout?

This was really cool to see! I’ve always wanted to try muy thai
WHOO! new video!
I wanna see these guys do tai chi. (The relax one, and then watch it actually be used.)
23:00 Chuck Norris Roundhouse kick, level 1 version :) on level 10 you can roundhouse kick 10 targets at the time just like he does.
love watching Brian bouncing away with over exaggerated movements.
He looks like he needs to use the restroom.
Kind of annoying that no one corrected him
Ha nice I actually do Muay Thai myself. Hopefully I go to Thailand for a year or 2 to go train with the best.
Jason's face speaks of a man full on ready to put a guy down.
very professional
Muay Thai is the art of eight limbs. It’s a brutal sport.
Brian has a bit of "chicken butt" going on, as my sifu's wife would call it. Having a little structural tension in your lower abs, just below the belly button (as mentioned in the video) allows you to relax your lower back. This aligns the spine more naturally and "engages" your core.

Us Taekwon-bros be like: ONE MINUTE IN, AND THEY ARE FULL OF LIES!!!
triple digit squad lezzgoooooo!!!!! also this should be fun!
The aeroplane flies high turns left looks right
I did Muay Thai for 10 years so this is especially funny to see
Yay, Martial arts for magicians!
Interesting.
Can you guys do Tire machèt (Haitian machete fencing)?
Surprised that the injury counter was not reset.
They should try Lethwei next. Be interesting to see how that can be taught without the injury counter getting reset.
Muay Thai seems great for toe walkers. I already do most of my movements off my heels
Anyone who does anything athletic knows that all of your balance resides through the balls of your feet. I cant imagine trying to do anything (running, jumping, kicks, footwork, etc) off of my heels?
Best martial art for street fights!
I'd love to see a fly fishing episode
Muay Thai is totally legit as a fighting style.
3
3 is power
Keep it up guys
Before I watch this it's gona be funny trained this for years 😄
C-c-c-combo breakerrrrr
Magic spoon is pretty decent. Better with whole milk than almond milk.
That chocolate flavored one in 2% chocolate milk was a perfect balance for me.
@@TheRealAlpha2 I find it mostly tasteless, with almond milk, and slightly sweet with whole, but the texture is fucking perfect holy shit
So bellybutton techniques are key!
I thought this was going to be the video where Brian and Jason duke it out for the modern rogue championship😂
Brian has the energy, Jason has the concentration to build proper technique sooner.
Fun fact: here in Brazil, most muay thai schols refer to the sport as the art of eight weapons instead of the art of eight limbs
brian and jason looking bangkok ready
Hahahaha this was entertaining to watch
Watching 2 guys who have never been in a fight, and will run from any fight, try to learn how to fight. LoL
I’d like to what Jason and Brian’s characters would’ve looked like in street fighter with their “idle animation”
The best part about combat sports is that the worst part of combat sports isn't being hit, its warming up.
Everyone at my gym agrees.
Duck walks are evil.
I got love for you guys, but for The Modern Rogue to consist of The Warrior, The Gentleman, and The Scoundrel, you got way too much Scoundrel, some gentlemen, and like, miniscule warrior lol
well they also did a lot of sword stuff early on, so it's balancing itself out
Fuck yeah! Muay thai is amazing, just happened to have a session a few hours ago lol
i used to do kung fu and training on tires was my favorite thing :)
I'm a little sad the boys (i was going to say men, but who are we kidding) .. the boys missed a great opportunity to make an ARM-or joke when they were discussing protecting yourself while attacking.. Great episode
I'm on a side quest to find those jump ropes.
"Weighted PVC jump rope," But I don't see that exact handle they use on Amazon.
I remember my first time with a weighted jump rope. I remember thinking, "how heavy could it *_BE?"_*
Can’t wait for a Tang Tsu Do episode (prob spelled it wrong)
His explanation of not having A/C because it makes you stronger was just too reminiscent of Saitama
Good teachers, but this was definitively the kids glove version. A real training session (even beginners) would usually be louder and much higher intensity.
7:08 It's hilarious how worn out Brian is. I've had that little shaky balance moment many times.
Someone should teach bryan the ian method of tying shoes. tie it once, stays tied all day long.
How do they prevent their shin bones from breaking like I’ve seen in fight videos? I would like to avoid this since it gives me nightmares.
Shin conditioning. Basically causing micro fractures in the bone that reheal as stronger. Lots of running and kicking bags of various hardness
@@blessedisdeath
Thanks man. I looked it up and I guess I have to beat the shit out of them with a metal pipe or something to hardcore condition them.
Every time you hit the bag, your shin will get stronger. After a couple years you can chop down a banana tree
