In honesty, I think most artists would be cool as long as the correct process is followed. If it's not followed then I guess that's what copyright law was passed for in the first place.
It beats me how someone who is full time in music would not know that they have to obtain authority to use someone's song. I knew this before I knew how to write music.
@elpecemusiq6955 in my case it was my label saying they would clear it and never did. Sometimes the record comes out before negotiations finish on publishing side
If you put all your work into a song, and spent time and emotions in it, just for sample and put a drum beat over your hard work and made money, your be pissed too.
@@miamiwax5504 I'm a beginner and I like playing with words. Spending time making melody from 0 would k11l all my interest in music. Not everyone wants to do the same
I somehwat agree, collaboration is key but if the other party doesn't want thier music sampled or wants payment for the use of it then I think that should also be respected
Sting had every right to sue. I love to sample, but you have got to understand, you cannot make money on the back of other peoples talent. Never had lawsuits in any other genre anywhere near the magnitude what you see in rap music. Hip-hop producers, steal more than anybody.
100% he did. But believe it or not, when Inness researching this video I found a lot of cases in electronic genres, rock music and even in pop. I just left them out cause my audience are mainly hip hop fans.
The Lucid Dreams thing is a Good Example of why you should have manners, Nick Mira Kne & Admitted to what he did, he ripped it & thought nothing of it, Sting Was well within his rights to secure his bag.
Yeah of course he did. I get ripping songs to make demos when you’re underground/unknown. Everyone has bootlegged or remixed something. But to drop a song like that without clearance is mad 🤯
@jordanlopez1438 🤣 for a minute I thought you was saying I dragged it out haha. I try keep things as fast paced as possible cause I know everyone's time is valuable 🙌💪
I understand charging for sampling if it’s ass. But if great art is made from it, while simultaneously putting people on to the original work, that otherwise might have been forgotten, then why does money have to be involved. Estates, Artists, Labels please explain!!!
I think the original artist, writer, inventor of anything should always benefit from a new work that uses theirs, it is crazy how these lawsuits hit 10s of millions though 🤯
lol what about how he ripped off yellow card. he ripped off two artist at once. lol yellowcard and sting. thats why there are conspiracies he faked his death. because yellow card dropped the suit
I sampled Every Breath You Take a year before Puff. Sting took 100% of the song! Lesson learned.
No way! Is there anywhere I can listen to the song?
@ErrorTheProducer MC Peaches - Every Breath You Take. It's on youtube
Trent's response vs Sting's response is precisely the difference between seeking permission.
Sting is also chill if you just ask the man.

Trouble is I think some of them know and just go ahead without clearing 😕
@elpecemusiq6955 in my case it was my label saying they would clear it and never did. Sometimes the record comes out before negotiations finish on publishing side
@freddiebyrd Thanks for sharing. It's irresponsible of the record label. I probably would want to see evidence of such clearance before release.
Good job man!! 🤙
Ayyyy thanks bro 👊
Its so sad to know music is more about money than about art
I think as long as there are greedy labels involved this will always be the way 😕
Make your own music! Simple!

Good commentary, keep it up, you got my SUB
Thank you bro 🙌
We producers gotta learn to collaborate...music is all about sampling

@ Oh for sure!
Funny how it always the artists getting sued, not the label that released the track.
The labels do get sued sometimes but for the most part it's on the artist 😔
It's called the music business for a reason. Interesting video; definitely thought provoking. Thanks.
Indeed it is. Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it 🙌
Moral of the story people, don't sample without clearing! And even better, make your own original songs!!!
