After getting this game myself to see how tough it was, I can safely say that you make this look a lot easier than it actually is.

The reason lines clear way lower is because the line gets full, but doesn't clear until you place the next piece, so it doesn't interrupt.
Lines are cleared only at the moments when new blocks touch something for the first time
Add in a crappy Flute version of the Tetris theme and itd be even better

Well of course he knew what piece will come down, it's literally displayed there
abcde he meant that when he placed a block, it looked like it wasnt supposed to be like that(rotated) but then after a few more placed blocks it got placed correctly

Luis C. If you look at the leftmost side of the screen, you can see a bar. The shade of the bar shows how cluttered that line is.
Just pay attention...
It just calculates what percentage of the row is not empy. I suppose that it use a shader to check every pixel and see if there is a piece in that space or not. If im correct that lets you calculate the percentage in a single operation, using the gpu. Also, it seems that it considers a line full when the percentage is over 90%
@Cyrsclin see, it's secret is that the game itself doesn't even know how it works.
The explanations here are correct (except it seems it's a little over 80%).
Now why sometimes considers a line for no reason? Maybe it's just not that accurate. I would have prefered those initial lines not cleared, that ruined my initial tower :(

The most unsatisfying thing I've ever seen on internet.
I notice you frequently touch a piece to the side and unrelated lines below get cleared, many times when the stack is very clean (like, not when some leftovers fell down to fill it up as in the very beginning). This is a clever technique, but I'm wondering if you can elaborate a bit on how / when it works? I don't remember any such thing happening when I played! I used to slam the pieces down to "compact" things to achieve line clears.
You use it to excellent effect to clean up debris, too. Nice score!
There's a fill bar on the left; if it's full, then that line is erased, wherever your piece lands. Sorta like that.
Can you write the exact part of the video when that happens? the thing is I don't quite get what you're referring to. The game checks for complete lines once the piece you're moving touches another piece, at first is very clear what lines will disappear, as you say theres this bar on the left that tells you, but sometimes there's a small movement or a very little piece that can trigger the full line just in the moment you land something ( 0:50 ). I hope that was clear
Hey, thanks for the response. Yeah, that's how I thought it worked, but after rewatching carefully with step and pause, I think what I'm seeing is these two things:
In some places, such as at 4:29, you touch a piece (the I, in this case), high up where, when it connects, nothing is filled enough to clear. The piece then falls down and fills space that becomes filled enough to clear -- after that, the next piece contact will cause them to clear out.
In others, there are perhaps "pieces" standing upright, and you tip them over diagonally, which brings them down enough to fill in lines that they didn't before; similarly, when you touched them to "knock them over", they weren't occupying enough to fill a line, but later, after they've tipped over, they do work.
One brilliant example is 4:53 with the S piece, where you juuuust graze the corner of the top of the well in such a way that the S falls in, flat, but doesn't clear anything, giving more points when you clear with the O followup
If there are no full lines, you can slam your piece into other pieces to move them about or jiggle or compact them, or swing it into others to nudge or move them.
If there are any full lines, or if you make one, then the instant you touch a piece you lose all inertia and the lines clear and everything drops straight down.
I don't know why the algorythm decided to spam me tetris gameplays, competitions and records. But this by far is the best video I could get. Rad score, don't worry about the muted video, I'm too distracted watching you play lol. I will definetly try this game.
I like how at the end the pieces just all sort of pour out at once. Like "Alright, that's enough, get out of here".

This game is just like real life. You have to plan ahead how you collect the garbage you're creating while you're alive in order to be able to clean it, otherwise you'll end up dying.
Seeing those tiny one pixel thin bits get destroyed is quite possibly one of the most satisfying things I've ever seen.
