Of course AFTER you FIRST watch our video, you might want to check out this excellent documentary on the BUILDING of I-70 thru Glenwood Canyon: th-cam.com/video/etf0DzR8T00/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for the video. It brought back memories of me and my dad pulling our 29ft 5th wheel on I-70 eastbound after 2 day's in Glenwood, heading toward Denver. This was a return trip that started in Tennessee to San Diego, Ca. It was a great experience back in 2010 and Colorado is beautiful. We went through in late May & there was still snow in some places. I got to create great memories with my Dad on this trip and he passed away a year later in 2011.

What a great comment. As I write this I TOO AND JOSTLING around! We just got off a 5 hour ride on the Combres & Toltec Railway train in CO to NM. I will have to regain my sea legs! Train was AWESOME. Video to follow in a month or so.
I happened upon your videos recently and watching this one really speaks to what an outstanding 'team' you two are/make. This is the way it should be done and the way I would want to travel w/a partner. Thank you for all the incredible views, details and facts!!!
yes you are so right about this trip of yours, beautiful but stressful. First Time we made that trip was in a 95 dodge van with a 4 cylinder engine. No jake break and even less power in the engine. I practically got pushed up the mountain by a garbage truck and you were doing 37 in a large coach, I did 35 in a van. In fact I had to take the van into the dealers to have work done on it. You sure brought a flood of memories with this video, thank you. it was a great trip for us as a family. Bless your heart Sue for taking such great care of the Chan man.
Hey TH-cam, another positive comment here for one of the most entertaining video compilations on the interweb. Mark and Sue make great content!!! Mark, I love your engineering equations too. Porcelain + sheeted pulp = grand relief....I think that drive would warrant many "grand reliefs"
I remember when they built the tunnel. Started in1968 and completed in 1973. That tunnel saved alot of truckers lives because there was always wrecks by inexperienced truckerr. Thankfully it was never a toll road. Back then only snow plows had blue lights...now only cops have blue lights.
Hey Mark, Great job on the story telling and filming of this video. Great job by both of you! Former 18 wheeler Driver here. One thing you might not have considered is when you go up one of those runaway ramps it is usually because you have no brakes. Then if you can actually use the ramp successfully you immediately still have to ditch it as you start to roll backwards down the ramp. Some even roll over going backwards.
This is a great drive when not snowing or raining. If you are towing a car with a gas motorhome, I would suggest to unhook and have your travel partner follow the RV. Towing a trailer without an exhaust break is not advised. Good luck Rodney, and thanks for watching.
I vividly remember the beauty of this grandiose, majestic mountain/canyon range. Back in May of 2021, I rode Amtrak's California Zephyr (Amtrak's most scenic route) in a private sleeping car from San Francisco (Emeryville) to Chicago which route takes you right along the Colorado River and I-70 (in some areas renamed "Moon" river due to all the kayakers mooning the train). I got off the train and spent a few days in Glenwood Springs to hike up to Hanging Lake and take the beauty the Glenwood Springs area has to offer. Thanks for taking me back to those vivid memories and getting to experience the steep grades with you. Safe travels guys!
Thanks for the awesome comment Adam. You know what we were trying to tell folks about Glenwood Springs,......it was no exaggeration,........it is breathtakingly beautful.
Great video, Mark & Sue! Thank you for stirring our memories of doing that beautiful , scenic route a year and a half ago going eastbound. As for experiencing that in a gasser, we have a 36’ class A with the Ford V10. We unhooked the jeep and drove separately as I was more concerned about going down hill. It did just fine letting tow mode do it’s thing. Unhooked going uphill, it maintained 42-45 mph which surprised me a bit. Safe travels!
You were really smart. I think unhooking with a gasser with tow haul is a fantastic payoff,.....and saves on your equipment and nerves for both the driver AND passenger.
The mustard also explodes in the high elevation!!! We rode I-25 south out of Colorado, straight up and down at 7800 ft. That puckered the panties!!! All went well, thank goodness. Thanks for taking us along. Great advice. We tip our hats! Brendan & Lena
I did not have a good experience with my grey tank piping getting pressurized between the gate valve and the end cap. Lets just say I hope know one saw me.
You did great Mark. You are correct about the importance of trying to maintain your momentum. We drove that route in 2020 two weeks after the Glenwood fire and at times even had to drive on the east bound lanes while going west. Even with our 600hp Detroit I got caught behind a slow truck and dropped down to 35 and couldn't gain enough speed to pass them.
@@OurJourneyInMyles I average 5.5 mpg so when I'm planning a trip I just budget $1/mile and try and top off at 1/2 tank to ease the pain in the wallet 🙂 Still want a 600 horse? I think maybe the biggest advantage is that I have a 2-stage engine brake and it'll really slow our coach down on those steep inclines. In fact so much that I have had to disengage the engine brake going down hill at times to keep pace with the traffic.
Another great video guys, been watching your shows for a long time now,and enjoy every one of them. Currently rehabbing from a total knee replacement,so you're video this morning was just what the Dr. Ordered. Keep up the great work, and safe travels.
Thanks for watching Derric! We went on TWO separate travels that made this video look like child's play since we edited & produced it. Watch for that in the future.
Oh my gosh, you are right in our backyard! We live in silt , right across i70 from the Koa with the beautiful view of Mams peek. We camp there in the spring for our first run of the summer to make sure everything is working. Campsites by the river are the best! I’m so glad you were able to enjoy our beautiful mountains. Glenwood Canyon (Greenwood lol! Poor mark)is the most beautiful drive I think in the state. Wondering if you’ll stop at a harvest host in palisade at a local winery? My husband and I both grew up on farms in palisade, peach orchards and vineyards. Happy trails as you go west!
This brought back a lot of memories. I'm a retired truck driver and back in the late 80's early 90's I was a beer hauler out of Milwaukee. I drove this corridor a lot. This interstate was being built to it's current format back then. Here's something to think about. You had a 450 hp motor and weighed 46,000 lbs. My truck grossed around 78'500 lbs, had a 350 hp motor and no engine break. Went down those hills at 10 mph, hint, never rely on your engine break, if it fails you're going to be in a bad situation trying to get slowed down and stop, you can burn up your brakes and lose your brakes completely. Again thanks for the video.
@@OurJourneyInMyles Yes it did. An example would be the westbound downgrade coming out of the Eisenhower tunnel which was referred to as Straight Creek Canyon took around 45-50 minutes to get down that hill. I considered Dillon/Silverthorne to be safely down to the bottom.
Fantastic video! You two, a few times now, have well documented the logistics and strategy behind the ever-present human pit-stop equation! Not many other channels do that. We found early in our RVing life (a Jeep with an Rpod trailer) that planning stops (including fuel and human pit-stops) became important, and now that our rig is right at 50-feet combined (truck and travel trailer), it has become imperative that we do our research before getting on the road. Oh, yeah, and that drive on I-70 is just fantastic - years ago we were in Denver for a PGA event and make that drive - beautiful to say the least. Great work!
Thanks for all the kind words guys! We just had another couple oddball pit stops. I am very thankful Sue is always looking for spots and asking me "how are you doing". The team work while driving and RVing together is 37% of the fun.
Don't rush in,.........think it through,............and do your research at your pace. RVing is so expensive you don't want to start with the wrong equipment for you & your travel partner. Good luck!
Fantastic views. Glad I wasn't driving that rig! I can't imagine driving gas big rig there. I drove my neighbors gaser local years ago. Its was lacking power local! We drove that path you where on going east many years ago with a under powered 4 banger Plymouth Horizon. I had the pedal to the floor too in spots!
I think I remember when you went out west! Were you already at A.O. Smith, or were you at your previous job, and while on vacation got laid off while gone?
AKA "The IKE Gauntlet" by the guys at "The fast lane truck" as a torture test for light duty trucks towing max GCVR and GVWR. It must be completed both up and down the mountain and it definitely separates the boys from the men. It is also an area that attacks light duty truck manufacturers to check out new test mules. Looking forward to watching your video.
Thanks you two. I definitely dig how you to communicate and work as a team. I hope my wife and I can do the same to make our adventures out on the open road and smooth one too. ✌🏽
Going up I-40 here in NC is supposedly 6%-7% for 4 miles. Our 06 Wanderlodge at 52K plus our 4K Equinox is a 3rd gear 35 MPH deal too. We've got the C13 525 HP Cat and that is what you have. Nothing more, nothing less. My father had an 05 American Eagle with a 500 HP Cummins that would top it around 40 MPH but he was 10K less than we are. Great views. Thanks again from a long time subscriber.
We are with you in disappointment with the loss of the bike trail. It happened 2 weeks before our trip through on the way to the Black Hills last year. The trail was a major activity we had earmarked. Videos and pictures of it are spectacular. Thanks for the ride- along.
Next time heading west on I-70, there is an excellent scenic pull off overlooking Lake Dillon just after Silverthorne, before Frisco. Big rigs fit. The eastbound side was closed for construction August/September 2022.
I worked in Rifle Colorado for a few months and we would go to an all eat Ribs place on Thursday and then go soak in the hot Springs. That was in 1981. Long time ago
Great job with the driving. We have a 2014 Mountain Air with 450 ISL Cummins engine and your power description going up grade and down grade is the same experience we deal with. Foot on the floor = 35 mph. Your comment about passing trucks on a upgrade is soo funny because yes they with make a point to pass you on the down hill. It seems the FedEx trucks are great at high speed passes. Again nice job with the drive and thanks for the bed mattress advice hadn't thought of that one. Cheers 🍻
I lived in Boulder, Colorado in the seventies when they bored the tunnels out for the Eisenhower tunnel (westbound completed in 1973 and eastbound completed in 1979). Glenwood springs and canyon is one of the most beautiful places I know a friend of mine and myself went up to Glenwood springs hot tubs but they were just beginning to build the elevated portion of the highway, the lower portion was a 2 lane highway for MILES running along the side of the Colorado river lol. Great video...nice rig!
I personally loved the drive. It is a very different experience for the passenger many times. At 47,000 lbs combined, I was confident only because of the Jake (compression) Brake.
Loved your video… those passes are tough. Eisenhower Tunnel is part of Loveland Pass, then Vail Pass. I’ve driven it in my 34’ gasser multiple times, but looking forward to my next RV being a diesel.
Love Your RV Videos. Say Do You By ANY Chance Have One On Making Left & Right TURNS In Those Giants. I My Self Know How CAREFUL One NEEDS To BE As A Voulenteer Fire Fighter Driving The Big Fire Apparatus Rigs . But For Those Who Might NOT Know. Such A BIG DIFFERANCE Driving A Car Or Suv Vs RV's & Fire Rigs.
Thanks for a great video, just found your channel and will be watching more! My wife and I traveled east bound in June, drove up from Zion, stayed in Grand Junction then over the passes. Was pretty nervous about it, but my 36' Aria towing our Grand Cherokee did fine. Road were a bit rutted in certain parts, but just took our time and it was fine. Wish I'd have seen your videos first! Thanks for great content! Bill & Marty.
Went over Wolf Creek Pass back in July with our Tiffin gasser. Yes, it was “puckery”. Yes, we made it with tow car attached. Stab braking with tow haul is your friend. Had a Class C gasser with no tow haul before the Open Road. Now THAT was puckery!!!😮
In the first week of February of 2011 I took a Greyhound bus from Glenwood Springs, CO to Charlotte, NC and when we left that late afternoon it had been snowing. There was already a lot of snow on the ground and road. 18 Wheelers were putting chains on their tires. I have traveled I-70 from Golden, CO to Utah numerous times through the 80's and 90's. Then in 2003 on my way to Las Vegas. So the icy snowy roads have never bothered me ... I grew up in Laramie and Pine Bluffs Wyoming so bad weather and wind is not a problem for me to drive in... What make me nervous is the individuals that don't know how to drive in conditions
Great video, my first real job after high school was working on the eastbound side of the tunnel in 1976, I believe the eastbound tunnel was completed in 1979.
What’s great video Mark & Sue. How coincidental, we leave Dakota Ridge CG tomorrow morning and make this very drive in our Prevost with the 500 HP Detroit diesel. I drove this in a car about 25 years ago and have been a little nervous about the trip. This video has really helped. I do Hope to see you kids in Tampa again this year.
Don't know what your torque curve is, but your going to be just fine. Prevost buses are made for this! I am a little bit more timid than the average motorhome driver! Enjoy the ride to Glenwood, and from Glenwood going even further east it gets even BETTER. We are going to be in the Pacific Southwest this winter. We will not be at Tampa, but will be at the ABQ Balloon Fiesta in a few days.
Always enjoy your videos, was at Dakota Ridge back in June, yep, it's a little tight but the best option for a location in the Denver. Safe journey, keep up the good work.
There is virtually nothing else to pick from except an awesome looking state park campground south of Denver that you need to book a year in advance for a big rig!
If you are that good try Zion national park.... Kolob Rd from I 9 all the way to Kolob reservoir. We did it with a 42 feet forest river Berkshire pulling a pacifica minivan. Good luck
We were driving down from Eisenhower West bound when an RV behind us lost his brakes. I was asking my husband why he was riding on the shoulder when the RV got into the left lane and passed us. RV hit the car in front of him pushing the car's back end in but not knocking it off the road. We spoke with her later and she said she didn't even feel the impact but looked into her rear view mirror and realized she couldn't see out of the back window because her back end was pushed into the vehicle blocking the window. She was able safely pull off at Silverthorn at the bottom of the hill. The did not take any of the runaway truck ramps but was able to stop at the bottom on the upgrade. We went to lunch and she was still on the exit ramp after, still waiting for the state patrol. This was probably in 1997. On a side note, no one was killed in the Grizzly Creek fire or mudslides but it did create a big problem for travelers with the detour through Steamboat Springs and many thinking Independence or Cottonwood Pass were reasonable alternatives resulting in a Fedex truck falling off Cottonwood and many semi's turned around in Aspen.
Drove my 40 ft dp towing a jeep over the mountains of Chattanooga for first time. Wow what a difference over the ford v10. The 500hp Cummons handled those steep grades like it was nothing
Hi, we will be traveling this road the last week of September. Your videos are wonderful. I was curious what cameras you used to film. What was the brand of dash cam? Thanks
awesome video again guys. i just drove down I-70 a month ago going west and i was in my jeep not my 40ft mh and thought i dont think i would go east on 70 pulling my jeep. im new to towing and dont think i want to stress my 400 hp cummins to find out. thoughts?? thx again stay safe and warm
With a 400 hp cummins diesel in your Motorhome and a Jake Brake, I doubt you would notice much difference driving with the jeep attached or not. It will be slow any way you look at it. I DO recommend folks with a GAS MH to disconnect for braking safety when you are relying on the engine brake/exhaust brake system to keep your down hill speed under control.
None! Folks should always refer to the free, online PDF documents, that the Family Motorcoach Association compiles (The Dingy Towing Guides) listing all the approved cars and trucks by model and year, that you can pull behind a motorhome. Additionally, it proves notes on any added preparation needed before towing can start for the day. I would probably NOT RECOMMEND pulling a Honda Odyssey. We are taking a chance,….we have a lot of money on the line with the faceplate mod and Air Force 1 Braking Mod. We paid top dollar to get an extremely low mileage 2013 EX-L, (about 23k miles) so the transmission was in as good a shape as possible. Are you willing to risk this like we have? We corresponded with someone on irv2.com in June of 2017 that was pulling a 5 speed Honda 2013 Odyssey for over 25k miles. This prompted us to “go for it!” He has since (about 1 year ago, had a trans failure.) He maintains he thinks it was NOT related to towing it. He liked his Honda enough he put a rebuilt trans in! We love our Honda and will do the same if we have an issue. WE CHANGE THE TRANS FLUID every year! We needed to pull a garage for our expensive bikes! After many conversations, WE DECIDED TO TAKE A CHANCE, AND PULL ONE AS WELL. We tow a 2013 EX-L Honda Odyssey. This is the latest year model (2013), and highest trim level (EX-L) model you can THEORETICALLY tow. Honda DOES NOT recommend towing it. Yes, I know, you are not supposed to tow it! Honda decided it wasn't worth the warranty claims of damaged Odyssey transmissions when NOT shifted into neutral following the EXACT instructions they provided way back in 2004. (YOU MUST SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL FROM DRIVE ONLY, NOT FROM REVERSE!) They gave up on the Odyssey towing public, because of this Odyssey peculiarity and said you can’t do it. I corresponded with a few other brave souls that had over 20,000 miles towed on their Odysseys before I was man enough to do it. We have PULLED it about 25,000 miles since June of 2017, and we have DRIVEN it 59,000 miles. SO FAR, SO GOOD. The 2013 Honda Odyssey Touring was a 6 speed, and CAN NOT be towed. In 2014, EVERYTHING went to 6 speed. You can search for the Honda Vin number decoder on the internet to make certain your Honda is a 5 speed to see if you would be OK. Any other years you would want to buy, you would want to research the internet and vin # to make sure you are not buying another 6 speed! We liked our (2) 2015 6 speed Honda Odysseys so much, that we sold them to get our (1) 2013 5-speed Odyssey. We are Full Time, and just need one car now. YOU DO NOT NEED ANY ADDED LUBE PUMPS! THIS IS THE TOWING PROCEDURE WE USE,…….EASY AS PIE,….. It has been simplified, directly from the 2004 Honda Odyssey towing instructions, which is the last year they "allowed" towing. The "PV1A Transmission” is the ONLY Honda Odyssey Automatic transmission you can tow, IF YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS from Honda back in 2004 when they allowed the PV1A to be towed. It MUST be this 5-speed transmission. I left in a lot of the Honda legal jargon at the end just for your info. • Start the engine and get it to operating temperature. (I am usually still packing something up.) • Press on the brake pedal. Shift the lever through all the positions (P,R,N,D,2,1). • Then shift up from 1, 2, Shift to D, then to N. DO NOT GO INTO REVERSE! Let the engine run for at least three minutes, then turn off engine. THIS IS THE KEY, AND THE ABSOLUTE ISSUE THAT MUST BE FOLLOWED. SHIFTING TO NEUTRAL FROM REVERSE WILL SET YOU UP FOR PROBLEMS, AND/OR TRANSMISSION FAILURE. How many times you can do it wrong, I don't know. I am absolutely vigilant on this procedure. You must shift to neutral from DRIVE. • Make sure parking brake is OFF. • Leave the ignition switch in ACCESSORY (1) so the steering wheel does not lock. Make sure the radio and any items plugged into the accessory power sockets are turned off, so you do not run down the battery. (Our tow electric cord has a trickle charger line to keep the battery from going dead. We have an SMI Air Force One brake system,.......Honda is around 4,600 lbs. loaded.) If you travel more than 8 hours in one day (including stopping time), you must stop and repeat the above procedures. NOTICE: The steering system can be damaged if the steering wheel is locked. Always leave the key in the ACCESSORY (1) position to prevent damage to the steering system when towing behind another vehicle. CAUTION: Severe automatic transmission damage will occur if the car is shifted from reverse to neutral and then towed with the drive wheels on the ground. NOTICE: Improper towing preparation will damage the transmission. Follow the above procedure exactly. If you cannot shift the transmission or start the engine, your vehicle must be on a flatbed truck or trailer. If you tow a Honda/Acura vehicle with automatic transmission, the fluid must be changed every two years or 30,000 miles, whichever comes first. Although experience has shown that the Honda/Acura transmission and powertrain are capable of being "motorhome towed", America Honda does not assume responsibility for any vehicle damage or liabilities incurred due to the towing device, towing vehicle, lighting hookup, or other towing equipment or towing procedures; any responsibility for these items is assumed by the owner/operator. If you have additional questions, please call American Honda Motor Co. Inc. (National Consumer Affairs) at 800-999-1009. Good luck,…..as I said,…….I would think it is not a good, sound, financial idea,……although we are taking the chance!
That grade is no joke. I had a rental car at 7,000 rpms up the entire grade with the engine temperature near the red. This is what happens when you get the cheapest subcompact and keep up with traffic.
Today driving Wyoming to idaho i hit a 10% incline climb, i was able to maintain 35-38mph i probably weigh about 20,000lbs 36ft v10 gasser. 6 percent is no problem for me to maintain speed, i also have the ultra rv tune which helps a lot. I got heavy duty brake pads on the front and they don't seem to have a problem at all slowing me down and i never have ridden the brakes longer then 10 seconds.
I've taken that drive several times East and West Denver to Salt Lake and Vegas. It's better than going thru Wyoming. Using your Jake's keep your speed under the posted limit by going down to a lower gear it saves your foot break. The Jake's will hold your speed
Don't you feel like it is a low ceiling? Kind of looks like the tunnels under Boston. At least you didn't have to test the runaway truck ramp. Great video. We had a great time at Angel Fire RV Resort, U.S. 64, Angel Fire, NM. You would like that RV park. You might like the drive in it is kind of twisty. Lots of amazing scenery in that area to.
Rich Melvin is correct. The Jake Brake just turns the engine block into an air compressor that is "holding back" the fancy Allison Transmission from spinning too fast forward. No real extra heat is generated to speak of.
I really enjoy your drives, you have some of the best video out there. My one regret is I keep forgetting to full screen the video until several minutes into it. Safe Travels

Yikes,..........what a ride that would be!
This was a spectacular video and I can hardly wait to travel this road.
This is a great drive when not snowing or raining. If you are towing a car with a gas motorhome, I would suggest to unhook and have your travel partner follow the RV. Towing a trailer without an exhaust break is not advised. Good luck Rodney, and thanks for watching.
Too funny we are going to that campground next week for 3 nights!!
Nice to watch your video
Hope you enjoy it! Get a spot along the river!
Now the fun starts!
Wait till I create the video where we did some 10% thru 14% grades!
My husband is a retired OTR trucker, and I have rode this highway many times with him. It is some of the most beautiful scenery.
We totally agree!
Thanks for sharing! The 450HP is great 99.99% of the time. Only in my dreams will I ever have a 605HP!
Thanks for bringing us along!
Anytime you want to ride down hill, we are there!
Thanks Rhonda,.......your home is in a beautiful area!
We have driven route 50 all the way to Colorado
We are now in Durango!
Have a safe trip
I am looking forward to this drive again someday!
Yikes,........10 mph must have taken forever! Glad you made it after all those trips.
Ty. Both for your time and the many great point about this type of driving with your Rv
I DO LOVE to make drive videos!
We have been over I70 many many times, even in the snow while driving 18wheeler, sometimes with as much as 45,000 lbs in the trailer.
Yikes,........I would have a heart attack in snow.
Great video, as always. Still dreaming about RVing. Running out of excuses, however, maybe 2023.
@@OurJourneyInMyles just before aos...got laid off when we got back...rcs then started law school and i started aos at the same time. Sept 1983
I have watched a few of those videos where they are putting the Ram against Chevy against Ford! Those are fun videos! Thanks for stopping in.
Thanks you two. I definitely dig how you to communicate and work as a team.
I hope my wife and I can do the same to make our adventures out on the open road and smooth one too.
✌🏽
It's actually all part of the fun in traveling together!
Really love the drive day videos looking out that giant front window!!
You got it guys!
Your video's are always so calming. Thanks again.
So nice of you to say that Daffy,.........thanks.
Thanks.. Awesome ride..
Glad you liked it Gerry!
Another excellent episode.
Thanks,...
Great comments BSF!
Fantastic video........love when you drive and I play passenger and take in the beautiful scenery.
Awesome, thank you Robert!
We are with you in disappointment with the loss of the bike trail. It happened 2 weeks before our trip through on the way to the Black Hills last year. The trail was a major activity we had earmarked. Videos and pictures of it are spectacular. Thanks for the ride- along.
Your welcome. Hopefully you got to experience the George Mickelson Bike Trail in the Hill City SD area. It is our #1 trail.
Next time heading west on I-70, there is an excellent scenic pull off overlooking Lake Dillon just after Silverthorne, before Frisco. Big rigs fit. The eastbound side was closed for construction August/September 2022.
Thanks for the great tip for others following this route in the future!
I so much enjoying watching ur videos ❤
Thank you so much Holly!!
I worked in Rifle Colorado for a few months and we would go to an all eat Ribs place on Thursday and then go soak in the hot Springs. That was in 1981. Long time ago
Wow,..........people are still enjoying the hot springs,.......glad to break out a few old memories for you.
Cheers 🍻
I guess I understand the truckers traveling down hill faster than me,...........they are working still! I am simply driving to my next spot to rest!
Very fun video. Thanks much for your work.
You are welcome Dennis.
Ran through this summer, 2004 southwind (gas) with toad. Beautiful.
Totally agree Bill!
That two lane road trip must have been a terror.
We camped along the CO. River in Greenwood Springs back in 1985 on our motorcycles. Several trains went by us and the scenery was amazing.
@@Donfleebie1 Hope the video brought back some memories!
Great video, full send
Thanks James,.......this was a fun video for me to make,......I LOVE to make drive videos!
What a nice video thanks for sharing.🇺🇸
Glad you enjoyed it Jerry!
Trucker's tip #45..... place a bag of chips on your dash it will act like a pressure gauge and you will know your in high altitude conditions
We discovered that one too!!!!
How will putting a bag of chips on the dash to use as a pressure gauge let you know you're in high altitude conditions?
Had a bag of chips explode on me going up Mt. Evans once.
We were just there two weeks ago and just loved it. Please go ride the train Durango that takes you to silverton.
We did go, and will have and episode on it!
I used to live in the mountains and drove my RV through there many, many times. It's no big deal, take your time, it's not a race.
I personally loved the drive. It is a very different experience for the passenger many times. At 47,000 lbs combined, I was confident only because of the Jake (compression) Brake.
Good narration and video.
Thanks for watching and the kind comment!
I run this route weekly from Verona Wi to southern cal in my semi , it’s a beautiful drive
Wow! Wow! Gulp! Wow!
Beautiful! I’ve only been as far as Avon, CO but you’ve motivated me to go further on I-70. Great video!
Awesome! Thank you John!
Awesome video and great info
Glad you liked it Prophet!
Mark,
Great video. Really enjoyed the camera work and commentary
Thanks Ken,.......appreciate the support!
Looks like a very beautiful ride! Thanks for sharing.................
Thanks for watching the adventure Bryan!
Beautiful scenery!
Thanks Benoit!
Thank you Mark and Sue! Looking forward to seeing your visit next week on Glenwood Colorado. Have a great week and see you soon!! Safe travels.
Our pleasure Sherri!
Loved your video… those passes are tough. Eisenhower Tunnel is part of Loveland Pass, then Vail Pass. I’ve driven it in my 34’ gasser multiple times, but looking forward to my next RV being a diesel.
It will be like dying and going to heaven! Your smile will return!
Another great and informative video. I can't wait to see more videos about your tour. Safe travels.
Thank you Andrea! You guys make sure to drive safe too!
Not yet! The RVGeeks did an excellent one 6 years ago on rear tire tracking!
Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful! 😀
The USA, and all the National Parks are breathtaking!
Welcome aboard William!
amazing video thanks for not cutting parts of it ....have a greate day....
Thanks for the encouragement Michel!
Oh wow! You are a brave soul. I'm thinking after the first time, I would have been scared away for a second pucker party!
Wow! I see driving this route again in my future at least once again. We thought it was beautiful,.....
Great video, my first real job after high school was working on the eastbound side of the tunnel in 1976, I believe the eastbound tunnel was completed in 1979.
Very cool! Some of my High School jobs were memorable. Yours sounds like it was better than most of ours!
Good luck
We were challenged way more in our drive between Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef National Park in episode #245!
Good video 😀
Glad you enjoyed it Stephen!
WOW!!
Your turn will be coming up soon!
Amazing! Thanks for sharing. Wish I was there.
Glad you enjoyed it Keith!
we also loved the views
In summer,.....not winter!
Not wanting to have trouble getting up hills is the reason I bought a Renegade XL which has a 600 hp Detroit DD-16.
That would be a dream!
We just did this 2 weeks ago. 35foot Alliance 5th wheel and 1 ton F350 Super Duty.
You have to admit this road keeps you on your toes!
Great video. Thanks!
Thanks Tom,......
I can only imagine the trouble the fire caused when it first happened, and how it continues to impact the region.
we just did that a few weeks ago very cool
It's a rite of passage eventually!
been over it many times summer
and winter not that bad if you pay attention
I would not want to be in a motorhome during snow on this road!
Drove my 40 ft dp towing a jeep over the mountains of Chattanooga for first time. Wow what a difference over the ford v10. The 500hp Cummons handled those steep grades like it was nothing
I know,...........when you tell folks that you don't use your brakes going down hill hardly at all I always wonder if they are believing me!
@@OurJourneyInMyles ya, thought I'd have to downshift but no, Jake brake did all the work.

That was a great trip. We did eventually get to Telluride!
Beautiful is about all the words I have to say!
Our ENTIRE travel season out west this year has been an eye popping experience.
Nice video
Thanks Terry,...
Hi, we will be traveling this road the last week of September. Your videos are wonderful. I was curious what cameras you used to film. What was the brand of dash cam? Thanks
We have the camera listed in the "Drivers Cab Electronics" section of our Amazon Store. I believe it is a Nextbase Camera.
awesome video again guys. i just drove down I-70 a month ago going west and i was in my jeep not my 40ft mh and thought i dont think i would go east on 70 pulling my jeep. im new to towing and dont think i want to stress my 400 hp cummins to find out. thoughts?? thx again stay safe and warm
Enjoy all your videos. Question about the towing of your Honda. What adjustments did you make to enable flat towing your Honda?
(YOU MUST SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL FROM DRIVE ONLY, NOT FROM REVERSE!)
They gave up on the Odyssey towing public, because of this Odyssey peculiarity and said you can’t do it.
(I am usually still packing something up.)
• Press on the brake pedal.
We have an SMI Air Force One brake system,.......Honda is around 4,600 lbs. loaded.)
If you travel more than 8 hours in one day (including stopping time), you must stop and repeat the above procedures.
NOTICE:
The steering system can be damaged if the steering wheel is locked. Always leave the key in the ACCESSORY (1) position to prevent damage to the steering system when towing behind another vehicle.
CAUTION:
Severe automatic transmission damage will occur if the car is shifted from reverse to neutral and then towed with the drive wheels on the ground.
NOTICE:
Improper towing preparation will damage the transmission.
Gravle & Sand in the Runaway Ramps Quick sand.
It will do the trick!
That grade is no joke. I had a rental car at 7,000 rpms up the entire grade with the engine temperature near the red. This is what happens when you get the cheapest subcompact and keep up with traffic.
We have a drive video that I am planning that will make this one look like a church parking lot go kart track.
That sounds good! We are just too big of a pile of "Condo on Wheels" and we really need the jake brake to handle the entire RV + Honda package.
@@OurJourneyInMyles yea with your setup you need a diesel for sure 😁
I bet a tune on yours would really wake it up.
I've taken that drive several times East and West Denver to Salt Lake and Vegas. It's better than going thru Wyoming. Using your Jake's keep your speed under the posted limit by going down to a lower gear it saves your foot break. The Jake's will hold your speed
We felt totally same with the Jake Brake,..........totally!
We are off to Sante Fe NM shortly!
Did you have any issues with the exhaust brake overheating ⚠️ light coming on? Or was there enough distance to allow cooling?
This coach does not have an exhaust brake. It has a compression “Jake” brake. You can run that all day with no extra heat.
Rich Melvin is correct. The Jake Brake just turns the engine block into an air compressor that is "holding back" the fancy Allison Transmission from spinning too fast forward. No real extra heat is generated to speak of.
I really enjoy your drives, you have some of the best video out there. My one regret is I keep forgetting to full screen
the video until several minutes into it. Safe Travels
Thanks 👍 Gary,..........it means a lot to us!
