    Add a couple of drops of vinegar to water, it’ll remove the starch, and make hash browns crispier. Put hash browns in a strainer, press with a small bowl or the back of spoon to drain. These are Sunny Anderson tips. Really works. I never tried hash browns on a panini grill. Leftover baked potatoes, grated make really good hash browns.😊

    I have not done hash browns yet we did do steamed mini potatoes smashed in the press. We have a commercial one which can get cranked up quite high. Besides sandwiches we do green beans and asparagus. We have done steak, pork steaks and going to try swordfish here soon. I do regret not getting the kind that has swap able grates.

      You have a much better one than we do. It sounds very versatile. Thanks for watching

    Such a sweet couple. We just got a panini maker and can’t wait to play with it! I also like to steam my potatoes and have them ready for hash browns 👏

    I use cooked potatoes for my hasbrowns. I cook a few at a time in the instant pot, store in the fridge & then use as needed. I diced some into an IP frittata for dinner tonight.

      Do you shred the cooked potatoes or dice them when wanting hash browns?

      That’s how I make mine too. It’s so much easier to use potatoes that are precooked. Then you don’t have to soak your potatoes. Just take them from the fridge, grate them, and cook. I like this video though. I was considering buying a panini press. I like the tip to use the mandolin thing to hold the potato, great idea!

    Excellent idea Director making hashbrowns in the panini press! One of my favourite foods as well. I like your objective when grating of getting "as much potato as possible, with as little finger as possible" a great mission statement haha. One of my favourite camping meals from when I was a kid was "breakfast hash" with grated potato, egg and bacon cooked all together in the cast iron pan. Would add a few more calories though...

      Hi Derek -- good to see you. You don't pop in all that often but it's always nice when you comment. He loves a good hash with all kinds of goodies in it.

      Hello Netherlands! So happy to see you dropping in. Rosty.....I believe I've heard of them on a cooking show. I'm glad you are getting some humor from our videos. It's a tense time and we all need to laugh a bit. Thanks so much for watching!

    I have watched several of your baking videos. Always interesting and informative. I was wondering what you use to clean your granite countertops so that you can knead bread safely on them. I have granite countertops too and would love to be able to mix dough for breads on them but I'm not sure. Do you just wash them with plain water?

    • @Jill4Today
      @Jill4Today  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Debbie, thanks for watching. I make a solution of 2/3 part water, 1/3 part rubbing alcohol and just a few drops of liquid dish soap. I had seen this recioe on a cleaning show. It works great and I feel very confident my counters are clean. At least that's what I use. I put it in a spray bottle. I've not found it to damage the finish on my granite. Big you don't like that idea, I'd use a little soap and water, rinse and dry well.

    Director, what do you mean you really don't know what your doing here? You did an excellent job . My husband has always loved homemade hashbrowns but I've always thought they were too much trouble. You have come up with a simple way to make him hashbrowns. Maybe even simple enough for him to do it himself.😊😊

    • @Jill4Today
      @Jill4Today  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think he did a pretty good job as well. He's hard on himself when it comes to his cooking. He needs to get in there more and that's my fault. I always tell him that I'm fine and he doesn't have to help me.

    You need to ring the potatoes out onto a clean towel. It gets rid of most of the water. You might try this.

    • @Jill4Today

      Good idea about wringing out the potatoes before cooking. I'll pass that tip along to the cook.

    😮after rinsing the shredded potatoes you should SQUEEZE out the REST of the water until they don’t produce any more water… they’ll cook much better in butter…😂

    • @Jill4Today
      @Jill4Today  ปีที่แล้ว

      Since doing this video we've been able to get more and more water out of the potatoes and it's helped a great deal. Thanks so much for your comments...I really appreciate it!

    I can buy a kg of Hashbrowns for £1 this seems a lot of hard work

  • @SM-oe1mz
    @SM-oe1mz ปีที่แล้ว

    Nooo PLEASE DON’T PRECOOK them in the microwave…just SQUEEZE ALL THE WATER OUT OF THE POTATOES AND THEN continue with the way you cooked them in the cooker…
    You will be very happy with the result…
