@Pual Cruz I think you were in the wrong part of America. America is a union of 50 states it can't all be grouped in to one as easily as other countries.
I did have one major problem with this video. You said you were going to start talking about positive stereotypes about halfway through, and named one: American optimism. You 'discredited' it with some dodgy statistics about drugs without linking the two together, naming specifically the opioid epidemic. Then you immediately pivoted back into negative stereotypes. What gives?
I might be slightly addicted to some things, but it’s hard to control because I have ADHD. I’m not that overweight either, I mean, you can literally see my ribs when my shirt’s off. On the other hand, I do watch TV, though it’s only when a hockey games on.
Americans can be incredibly self-important. I mean, who do you think coined the phrase saying America is the best country on Earth? We did. Of course, not everyone is, especially in younger generations. I think this is because we haven’t fought a major war in a while. Legally, I believe that the last War that we fought was World War Two (everything after has been labeled a “conflict”), so the true patriotic fervor that follows a war doesn’t affect the younger people. Our grandparents were only children during the second world war, so it makes sense that, as the world is three generations removed from that war today, so, in general, we (younger people) look at our country through a more critical lens than our elders.
Nathan DiPinto I think the reason why if one problem happens, they blame it on the U.S. because we have a popularity that some stereotypes are obviously somewhat true, and we have a better military I the world, I gurantee if someone beats the U.S. by double, they will not look at the U.S. and only look at the top 5 countries.
Nathan DiPinto you should think whatever country you live in is the greatest country in the world. If I were scottish then Scotland would be the greatest country in the world

That's some bull. If you are single, earning the national average of 40k you should be able to afford a very comfortable life. Debt is caused by poor decisions (I'll throw myself in that pool). Healthcare although definitely not lunch money, is roughly the cost of say, car insurance.
Because almost every other country does it's healthcare better. The stereotypes that americans believe is that the rest of the world somehow goes bankrupt with taxes just because we value everyones right to live without fear of bills just because you get sick or injured
I’m kinda annoyed at these stereotypes Different states have different cultures and ways they act due to their environment, or that’s what I’ve seen (I’m a Vermonter)
For sure! Some stereotypes for states or different regions in America can be positive or negative. Negative like the “redneck” and “country bumpkin” in more rural states. But not everybody from there fits that so called stereotype.
Yeah, I feel like it's more different regions have different cultures. I live in Oregon, and eastern Oregon is basically an extension of Idaho, but in western Oregon, it's a nicer California.
Well are you saying the national parks aren't beautiful and there simply won't be a nice place in the country even when it's larger than all of Europe?
Shit, I want to live in the US just for the variety of the land. Nothing wrong with that. I could travel Europe and Asia for that too (I'm European myself), but a few things get in the way: money and languages. The US is a somewhat monolithic landmass where you can expect to be understood in English (thoug the latinos who served me in New York certainly didn't fit this expectation) while it's arguably cheaper to travel and you don't have to pay the banks for the privilege of using different currencies (wouldn't be such a problem if I didn't live in the UK which doesn't have Euros. And let's ignore the dumbass brexit too...).
Carter Larger but Europe is way more diverse in languages, cultures, Art, gastronomy, etc. Europe is the most visited continent in the world, specially Spain, France, Italy, UK, Germany, Austria and Greece. Larger doesn't mean better. North America is beautiful too tho.
There are basically 3 reasons Americans don't travel: 1. We can't get enough days off from work. 2. We're too far away from most of the world. Travel is very time-consuming. 3. We are the most hated nation on earth; it is dangerous to be an American outside of the tourist areas. I should also mention while Americans are ignorant about the world, a lot of us descend from immigrants so we tend to know about the countries relevant to our lives. For example, if your parents are Russian and speak to you in Russian, you do not necessarily know about India or African countries, but you might know about many things about Russia which most Americans don't.
American patriotism is pretty tame compared to Filipino patriotism. They like to spam proud to be Filipino on every video that mentions the Philippines and annoy people from other countries.
Being from Missouri i take a offense to these MiCrOAgGrESsIoNs. TBH the US is full of different societies and cultures, you cannot just say were all alike; that would be like saying all of Europeans are all alike. Missourians for example are known to be spread out, don't hate or like strangers, eat bbq.
FROM A BRITISH EUROPEAN unlike in europe where you can get a return ticket to mainland europe for under £50, its very expensive to fly to any other nations other then canada and mexico, and no one wants to go to central america
It costs about $3,000+ to fly one way to the UK and unless you live close to the Canadian or Mexican border, there really is no point. Canada isn't much different than the US anyway.
The actual slogan in Japan is "The nail that sticks out gets hammered down." It's not an exortation to bullly, but it is advising you to not stick out, to not be noticed much.
As an American I am far from a stereotype: 1. I exercise and am relatively healthy 2. I am not that patriotic and speak out against us being a flawed democracy 3. I don't support guns on civilians 4. I love music 5. I don't like American football. I prefer soccer, tennis, baseball, and hockey. 6. I am not unaware of what goes on in the world.
Thank you for making this video. I'm not American but I always get so fed up of stereotypical people thinking that British citizens are fat, religious, boring. Because I myself and many others I know from the country are not like that. It angers me when other people think we will all act the same and do the same things because we are from the same country. Like if you agree.
MultiDEVILMAYCRY123 riiiiiight.... remind me how wanting low overall taxes (a core American belief) is greedy? Because we don't give the government our hard-*earned* money?
MultiDEVILMAYCRY123 greed usually pertains to the desire to acquire or retain one's monetary wealth. Since taxes are people attempting to retain monetary wealth, one could construe this as greedy. However, what is more greedy is the government taking your hard-earned money because they can. Also, if the super rich are greedy, why do the top 1% of people pay 40% of the taxes? Seems to me like they are the least "greedy", because they already contribute much more than their fair share.
Austin Stoddard Americans are greedy because its "the american way" to only think about yourself there are many instance for example Iraq and Libya, US is one of the most divided nation one group hating another group, you industries doing stuff like building oil pipelines through native american drinking water sources, or providing unhealthy food for cheap price, your high number of extremists from both the left and the right wings etc.

how can you fit 4.3 hours of television into your day, this must be a stay at home parent thing because I have just enough time to watch 1 episode of Dr. Who before bed and that's about it for tv.
As an American I think these stereotypes are true, and I think it is mostly because America's focus is on competitetiom and independence and is the basic philosophy of the country that allowed for its success but which is know causing many issues from global affairs, loneliness/ depression and internal conflict. What do y'all think?
I am an American and although we have a lot of problems, there are some positive things about our country. One positive thing about America is the beauty of our country. I have been to the states of Colorado, New Mexico, Arkansas, and Oklahoma and all of these states are beautiful in their own way. I am from Texas and I have been to the beach and I have been in the mountains and I didn't have to leave my state. Another great thing about America is that we are so diverse and have so many different cultures here. I understand that the last few years have made Americans appear intolerant, but not all of us are like this. I just believe that everyone in this world needs to put aside the stereotypes and get to know people for who they are and not where they come from.
Cling onto your freedom of speech Americans I tell you, as in Europe today we are being thrown in prison like common criminals for speaking out against the problems in our society. So called "hate speech"
+Felipe Hdzez I don't really think i know what he wants to refer do, but im pretty sure he is referring to the hate against muslims and the growing people that supports new nazism. This in my opinion is not free speech its hate speech.
Johan hate speech is free speech because all speech is free speech, that's the very premise of it being free. You may disagree with what someone has to say and in that case you ignore them and you'll be able to deconstruct their arguments if necessary; but the government should have no right to criminalise them for expressing what they think and feel. This is a keystone of living within a democratic society, without this basic fundamental human right we would become like Russia, North Korea and China; The places where human rights are thrown out of the window and where communism has ravaged the people.
I just spent half an hour at 2 Am on a school night typing up a practical essay about American culture and significant changes, I leave to go look up something, I come back and it's all gone. we're all loud and seem over confident to cover up the fact that we know things aren't the best right now. if you force yourself to be happy and optimistic all of the time you'll trick yourself into believing that it's true
we've been described as "outgoing" in easily starting spontaneous conversations with random strangers when, for example, standing in line or in other situations where random strangers might find themselves gathered together. We're also considered to have relatively good customer service compared to more reserved cultures, although this is sometimes interpreted by them as being too intrusive.
America does have culture! Cowboys-the most common stereotype of Americans from the Europeans. Also, just because Donald Trump is president, and your government has made more enemies than friends, doesn't mean you can't bee darn proud of this wonderful, spectacular country. The United States has achieved so much in the past recent years. In less than 400 years, we have turned into the most powerful, richest industrial nation in the world. And if we were discovered earlier, we could've had a little bit more to our culture, and in fact colonized other countries. Who knows, the American empire could've been larger than the British.

I did have one major problem with this video. You said you were going to start talking about positive stereotypes about halfway through, and named one: American optimism.

Recently the stereotype seems to be being bankrupt or having to work 6 full time jobs because of healthcare bills
That's some bull. If you are single, earning the national average of 40k you should be able to afford a very comfortable life. Debt is caused by poor decisions (I'll throw myself in that pool). Healthcare although definitely not lunch money, is roughly the cost of say, car insurance.
@@NotJustAnotherAverageJoe how do you except an ADHD kid born to a poor family in Detroit to get a 40k/year job?

And there we have another stereotype: patriotism
Gustav Thomsen he covered that
Well are you saying the national parks aren't beautiful and there simply won't be a nice place in the country even when it's larger than all of Europe?
Carter Europe is atleast 5 times bigger western europe maybe
There are basically 3 reasons Americans don't travel:

MultiDEVILMAYCRY123 riiiiiight.... remind me how wanting low overall taxes (a core American belief) is greedy? Because we don't give the government our hard-*earned* money?
Austin Stoddard hey who is talking about tax?
