That was Mark Farner on organ as well as lead guitar and vocals. So talented!...they did not have a fourth member at this point. Need to see the live version. It's awesome!
How these guys aren't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is beyond me. For 2/3 years in the early 70's they were on of the biggest bands in the world. Sold out Shea Stadium faster than the Beatles.
GFR, a great Michigan band. They often opened concerts with this song. They were one of the few bands tou could see with 2 Hammond B3 organs on stage. Lead singer played guitar and organ. Love these guys! Good pick, men. Thank you.
I saw grand Funk in 1974 in Cleveland, this song live was great! I don't think anyone sat down for that entire concert! We were on the backs of our chairs!
@@mr.snicker-doodles7081 in all honesty I couldn't tell ya. I was so loaded I barely remember GF. Definitely don't remember what venue it was or how I got there. Or home. Didn't wake up in jail so it was all good. Hell, took me 5 attempts before I remember a Floyd concert. Had a lot of those back then.
This song opens their live album “Caught In The Act” and sets the tone and to this day remains one of my favorite concert opening songs ever. The energy of that version if off the charts
Oh man, you have no idea how much I need this vibe this afternoon, it's been a busy-ass, long week and it's only Wednesday. Another great choice - it's always a real pleasure to spend a few minutes with you guys as you dig into a new tune. Vibing out at my desk on a snowy Canadian afternoon - much love to you and your families!
They were so high energy live. My first concert. Still one if the best live shows ever. No pyrotechnics, dancers, lazers etc. Just three guys rocking. .
This song encapsulates why they were the hardest rockin' band in the 70s outselling everyone. This is probably the most hook-laden, ass-kickin'' song you'll ever come across. God lordy Mama, alright!
It's Mark Farner, the lead vocalist and lead guitar that plays the organ (keyboards) in this song, he also plays harmonica in some songs. If you watch this GFR song live you will see that Mark is singing, playing lead guitar AND then goes to the keyboards in between, he's a very multi-talented musician..
@@mikeeckel2807 Yes, I know this, but as I stated in my comment, this GFR "live version" of "Footstompin Music" on youtube it is Mark Farner that is playing the keyboards..
@@Rhiannon011 I watched a 90 minute long concert while in the hospital...Man were they great "live!" It's a shame that they aren't in the R&R Hall of (Shams?) Fame. Mark Farner was quite a showman back then...those long locks flowing down his back, and all of those muscles. I don't think he stood still very much while on stage.
The first time I saw Grand Funk live this was the song they opened up with and it definitely set the tone! They blew the place up and it was great to see you guys react to Footstompin' Music.
Yes this was made for a live performance. The whole band was sooooo good live. A party from beginning to end. You should check Heartbreaker out next. Live or studio, don’t matter, both great. 🔥🔥
I am 65...when I was a kid in 7th grade I was in a rock band. We started out playing bubblegum music then the older brother of the two other kids in the band brought this album to practice. We were good little catholic boys(alter boys) and got to use the chapple stage to practice on any time we wanted. There was a B3 on the stage that I was able to goof around on. I taught myself this song. Then we learned Im Your Captain, Into The Sun, and Gimme Shelter. Then I found this cool looking album at the grocery store. It was black with purple lettering. Sweet Leaf was the first song. Our band went from bubble gum to hard to early metal in about 10 months...haha
This was one of the best concert opening songs of all time. You are right: I need to go find a live version of this song now, because I have seen them do it live, and it is like electrodes straight to the heart. They were a banging party band back in the day.
This song was before the organist joined the band. Mark was doing both keys and guitar, that's why they weren't played at the same time. Craig Frost joined later.
You guy's will love the Grand Funk song "I Can Feel Him In The Morning" which is about God and war from '71. This song should've been a much bigger hit.
You guys are the best. One thing I like about your channel is that you get right to it. no long boring intro. Would love to see you guys do, 4 non blonds : What's Up
More Grand Funk Laa and Chee! I’m your Captain live from Shea Stadium. They almost stoped the the show as the crowd was making the stand bounce up and down 4-5 inches!
Don Brewer on this album (E Pluribus Funk): "I think the band at that point, the power trio, we were at our peak ... There were not 25 takes [of the songs]; we just went in there and slammed ‘em out. Everything sounded good and the band was tight. It just worked." A hard pop classic - The New Rolling Stone Album Guide
This song reminds me of when I worked at bar in the 80's. The Cover Band would play this song for the Seniors who came to dance there.... very entertaining to watch....
The first time it appeared on a Grand Funk album, this song was simply titled “The Jam”! It later apyon future releases as Footstompin’ Music. Great tune, great band!!
I worked most of my life working as a stagehand and back in the 70's many of these bands would pull up and bring a remote recoding truck and record the shows live. It's no longer like that today. Most if not all sound consoles have a way to record an act cold without the use of an outside truck, I miss the 70's.
TO ME, this was just like a SOUTHERN BAPTIST SOULFUL, SPIRITUAL CHURCH 💒 service where the Preacher's got the whole congregation and the people in a frenzy with their music ✅✅✅💕💕💕
Now, this is how you rock !!! I just watched your videos for STAY WITH ME and DANCING WITH MR. D and must say you two on fire. Here are a few songs that you two will love. THE REAL ME by the Who. Make sure you follow the lyric script on this one. Many people can relate. And the Rolling Stones closed out the Some Girls album with a song called SHATTERED. This one reminds me a bit of the Doors ode to Los Angeles in L A. Woman. Mick and the boys are in New York during the late 7o's disco era, and reporting on their observations of the current state of affairs. Jagger is about to divorce his first wife, Bianca. He is roaming the streets, reviewing the conditions typical for the city. "Big Apple people dressed in plastic bags, some kind of fashion ..." hilarious. But it is the rhythm and beat that drive this sound that I think deserves your attention. Keep going and enjoy
REO Speedwagon has an epic rocker called Roll with the Changes that was clearly written for concerts. In fact, it was their concert closer, yet a great studio recording as well.
This was before they added keyboardist Craig Frost. That is just Mark Farner handling lead vocals, guitar and Hammond B3 organ. This is from the album "E Pluribus Funk". The whole thing is great, but if you really want to hear them play, check out the forth cut "I Come Tumblin' ".

T.N.U.C. off their 1st live album named Grand Funk (Live Album) drum solo forever. You got to do it. In fact it would be a great album review of the live show because it captured their interaction with the crowd way back in Nov 1970 at the Jacksonville Coliseum in Florida.
I survived the 70's. Oh, what fun they were.
Hey fellas I really love you guys I'm 68 years old and that was my first concert
Right on man✌️
Mine too I'm 65
We had the cream of the crop playing rock and roll from 68' to 79'. Those were the best years.
Why are they not in the R&R Hall of Fame? What a travesty
F'ed up politics in the music corp.
Are they not?!? That is WRONG
It's a meaningless " hall "...look at the inducties this far... actually telling is who is NOT in it.
Because Rolling Stones Magazine runs the show, this rag of journalism has sucked from its inception.
Why indeed. It’s ridiculous.
That was Mark Farner on organ as well as lead guitar and vocals. So talented!...they did not have a fourth member at this point. Need to see the live version. It's awesome!
Absolute talent! For organ greatness listen to Flight of the Phoenix!
I almost forgot, don't forget "Mean Mistreater", another great GFR cut!
YES!!!!
And Black Licorice.
I dare anybody not to be in a good mood after hearing this song!
Mark Farmer is a beast on organ and guitar. His vocals are great. I grew up with these guys and they are great musicians.
How This band isn't in the HOF is beyond insanity.
Because it's not a real rock and roll hof. It is a popular music hof.
