Great video, as always. That place is a dream. Thanks John, you’re a blessing! Can’t wait to see you win one of these, I believe it’s only a matter of time
I fished that tournament and still can’t stop thinking about how good it was 🔥 I caught so many fish the 5 days I was there it’s silly ! Can’t wait to get back to PA
Keep chucking and winding 👍 Buzzbait before sunrise then right at sunrise switch to a double willow leaf gold blade chartreuse skirt just under the surface making a wake. Grassy areas are a must. Have a Blessed Day!
That is a massive river quality, small mouth. Seems like there's no end the places to go. Great day John. You know, there's big ones left in there. Go get them.
@@CreekFishingAdventures Last Fall I hired a Susquehanna River guide to go for Musky... only got one small Smallmouth. Afterwards, I took the kayak up to Northumberland to fish where the two branches come togather. Nothing hitting til I make a few last casts before I pull the kayak out...and I get a Pickeral!! Everyone I talked to say Pickeral are very rare on that river, so what are the odds Pickeral are my thing and I get one on an unlikely river?
Welcome back to the Susky… I love this river which is why I bank fish, wade fish and kayak fish it all year long… just a great fishery! Glad you enjoyed your time in PA!
Great start to the tournament John and follow your gut. You're were smacking some well built PA smallies and tomorrow you'll land a few more. Blessings
wow that looked a lot better than when i was there the Wednesday. Made the mistake of going above the dam since I didn't have confidence in myself below the dam. Crucial mistake.
I bet your loving the motor, was able to consecrate on fishing than padding & a lot less tired, that's a great score first day, can't wait for the next video of this tournament!👍
John unbelievable 1st day showing thank you for sharing your day on a very beautiful experience fishing and catching done amazing fish lots of great competitors out in the field can’t wait for part 2. Tight lines take care and God bless!
Every time I see the Susky puts out giant fish, you think it can't get any better, then it does. As someone who lives in PA, I need to be down there more than just once or twice a year. PA has a lot of nice rivers and they keep improving. PS, it's pronounced Sus-KWE-Hanna, but I'm sure others have told you that, lol.
I grew up on the North Branch of the Susquehanna. Unbelievable fishing some days. Good chance of hooking into a musky while smallmouth fishing up there
Great vid as always John! Sorry to see yer favorite rod pop; if the blank gets “bruised” I’ve had em go like that. Great work in the tourney that sounds like 4 days of hard work!!
Well I purposely don't keep up with tournament standings so I can go into these videos without knowing the results. I'm really looking forward to part 2. 👊👍
As someone that lives 5 minutes from the Susquehanna I can tell you that.2 3/4 - 3 1/2 inch tubes are king in the Susquehanna. Rapala x rap works great also but should be Hot Steel color for best results. Great video
That place is screaming for a Rage swim bait on a ball jig and drag those eddies! It would be hard for me not to throw the Jackhammer with a little trailer too. That place looks awesome.
I’m in eastern ky we don’t have a lot of good smallmouth fishing here don’t get me wrong u luck into a 2 pounder every now and then again but not that often. I still love fishing the creeks around here Just wish it was better. Love the channel tight lines
Wow John. 89" and 44th place... Man there are some nice fish in that river! I just saw a Matt Stephan video where he was saying he likes to throw dark colored spinner baits. As much as you use and love spinner baits, you should check out that video, see what he has to say, and then try some! It could be a way for you to start catching a few more spinner bait fish. I look forward to seeing how this tournament turned out for you. Blessings.
nice to see the action.. Im a north eas tpa guy / wyoming valley. up this way and north of me. T here are some absolute slammer spots.. Big fish and lots of them. clippers and stone cats for bait and you will get sick of realing fish in lol
Welcome to my neighborhood! You put in a solid day. Is the tourney limited to the Susquehanna or can you hit tributaries, too? I've always had good luck on the Juniata.
Would I be better suited to mount my anchor wizard on the bow or stern? I usually fish rivers, might take my kayak on some smaller lakes. I usually try and go up stream so I have the current to help me back to the car when I am done fishing/tired. I like to anchor at a spot for a few minutes/break it down and move up.
I like to anchor off the front so i can face the current with my kayak, easier to control and if off the back it can be useful but also can get dangerous if current is really strong
You might want to tie that safety line on your motor key, it does you no good if you knock it off into the water. Tie it off and attach the line to your pfd. Your motor is louder mine, mine is really quiet. I am running mine on a Hobie, wonder if mine would sound different on a different kayak. That motor made quite the difference for you this year didn’t it!
They’re fishing measure Matt the yellow one where did you buy it? I’ve been looking for one like a Dck Wallmart and I cannot find one. I love to get the one that you have any information thank you.
You are doing so well as a newer fisherman. When you are catching a lot of fish on a spinner-bait remember that the hook will get dull. just like a knife the hook needs to be resharpened and touched up. A simple 4 dollar knife/hook sharpener on amazon will fix the problem. After you catch a fish, it takes 5 seconds to hit the hook with a sharpener. Works I promise. It took me years to learn that trick. Do it after a snag on wood or whatever also. Trust me
Those guys that told you to throw top waters early are probably the leaders after the first day. It pays to listen. It just seems like you have become too dependent on the spinner bait. Just another thought you might throw a real walk-the-dog top water, something with a little size. I am sure most people commenting just want to see you do well.
@usmc24thmeu36 I live up here and fish the Susquehanna every single weekend. They definitely get to 5 but I've never heard and seen anything get up to 6. So I would say 5 and maybe a little above.
Keep fishing some of the bigger river systems, better quality fish makes for better video content. Love the creeks but blue gills are blue gills 😂😂., start to lose interest after 5 tiny fish. Just my opinion, keep the videos coming.
Visited for the susky first time last week! Broke my pb about 4 times 😂
Which area? West Branch? I want to start planning a trip from Ohio.
@charlestwigg1272 west branch is usually clearer. North branch is always dirtier unless it starts getting down to around d 2 foot or less depth wise.
One of the absolute best smallmouth rivers in the country!!
I just caught 7 in a small creek outside of Nashville. Had a great day in the creek!!
Great video, as always. That place is a dream. Thanks John, you’re a blessing! Can’t wait to see you win one of these, I believe it’s only a matter of time

Welcome back to PA, John! Glad it was a blessed trip and you took back some great memories of my home state! God bless!
it was a good fast trip, i was thinking about pickerel but just didnt have time for them

Well said!
What a way to start the day Jon!!!! Beautiful sunrise and amazing smallmouth bass!!! Wooooooo weeeeeeeeeee
it was incredible Seth
@@CreekFishingAdventures sure was Jon!!!! What a blessing!!!
Great start to the tournament John and follow your gut. You're were smacking some well built PA smallies and tomorrow you'll land a few more. Blessings
Great one, Bro! Thoroughly enjoyed it! You're so consistent - even in the peak of summer. Inspiring.
Very glad you came to PA!
Nothing like those rivers and creeks up north for smallees that be my old stollpin ground
wow that looked a lot better than when i was there the Wednesday. Made the mistake of going above the dam since I didn't have confidence in myself below the dam. Crucial mistake.
there are for sure fish all over but definitely places that really hold them well

Wow! That’s a lot of fish. Gotta watch part 2.
Great video and great fishing John!! Have a good day and week. Good luck in tournament. Stay safe and God bless.

Yep. There is a W in there! Haha
Fantastic fishery and it receives a lot of pressure!!! Great job.
the motor really helped you out this year - solid fish, great fishery #footballs
Big water for a river. Good job on getting on the fish.
I grew up on the North Branch of the Susquehanna. Unbelievable fishing some days. Good chance of hooking into a musky while smallmouth fishing up there

Wow John, that was some quality fish. It's hard to believe your in 40 something place. Great video🐟🎣🐟🎣
I just passed over that river twice to and from Syracuse for a family re-union on the 81. So many places to fish NY to NC
Such a big river, its size is intimidating.
Great video and some really nice bass john good luck in your next tournament
I live on the Juniata River a tributary of the Sasquahana,20 inch smallies are next level, hope to see one 👍🏻✌🏻
What a fishery!
Your in my area. Good luck out there and safe travels.
Awesome video it’s a great fishery I live 20 minutes from there and fish it a lot 89 inches is a great bag
You know it’s a good day when he uploads
I want to go up there so bad. Nice job.
Well I purposely don't keep up with tournament standings so I can go into these videos without knowing the results. I'm really looking forward to part 2. 👊👍
I'm always watching man and I think it's your hook set.
Man your were right by where I live. Great content
Awesome trip man
What a river.
Great place to fish. So is the Delaware River. You find yourself in VA sometime I got a river to go to with a twist to it.
Brought a motor this year. Smart. 😁
Moving from Orlando to Augusta to start exploring Georgia Carolina’s and fish with my buddy in Tennessee can’t wait for it

I just got done finishing the susquehanna where I live. Big smallies and catfish.
Best of luck.
I fish the sus weekly, did today lol, biggest fish was 4lbs. Amazing place
man it sure is amazing

Try a 5" green pumpkin with black flake senko worm, set up wacky on a circle hook or wide gap, ive always had great success with that setup.
nice to see the action.. Im a north eas tpa guy / wyoming valley. up this way and north of me. T here are some absolute slammer spots.. Big fish and lots of them. clippers and stone cats for bait and you will get sick of realing fish in lol
I kept waiting for you to throw a big swim bait
Nice fish John!!no shame 👍
Summer break ends Tuesday were i live so friday i finally get to have a legit fishing day
"heart rate increases" I MUST GO TO THERE!
yes
Welcome to my neighborhood! You put in a solid day. Is the tourney limited to the Susquehanna or can you hit tributaries, too? I've always had good luck on the Juniata.
tributaries are open
Very beginning of the video you up with the big boys now
May I ask what town you guys put in at? I'm from Bloomsburg. The Susquehanna is my home water.
And congrats on the great finish.
Millersberg.
I'm from Shamokin and fish there,
Was that the Millersburg Ferry in the video?
Grew up in Lime Ridge. Loved the area just below the I80 bridge and also down where Fishing Creek flows in.
I fish where Fishing creek dumps in every week. Great stretch of river

Be nice to see some footage from the place you are staying with the guys. No Josh or Alex? Did they go with you?
Nice🔨🔨
About time
Let’s see a kayak setup video
They’re fishing measure Matt the yellow one where did you buy it? I’ve been looking for one like a Dck Wallmart and I cannot find one. I love to get the one that you have any information thank you.
amzn.to/3Ah2DbF
do you throw the spinnerbait with a different rod on a kayak than you would with a boat? just getting into kayak fishing. Thanks
im not sure, i dont fish on boats, I like a 6-10 med heavy
Are you north of Fort Hunter?
What part of Pa was this being held
❤😊
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣

But I've never had much success fishing a buzz bait in the middle of a lake or river. My success rate with it has been shallow water along banks, etc.
preety close to me
Personally, I would have stayed off open water and fished those grass beds and cuts more. Just a personal preference of mine.
I grew up by the Susquehanna and if you think the smallies are nice you should see the catfish and carp
I literally smacked my forhead both times you lost the big-uns😅
Congrats to you I was curious do they allow Livescope in these tournaments
yes they do, this tournament i doubt anybody used them
That's unfortunate
How large can the smallies get there in Pennsylvania
@usmc24thmeu36 I live up here and fish the Susquehanna every single weekend. They definitely get to 5 but I've never heard and seen anything get up to 6. So I would say 5 and maybe a little above.
Is it an only one day tournament
2 day
Your rand rods look awful long and flexable for fishing that close to the water.
My feeling is you gotta go to a bigger bait a lot sooner. Just my opinion which isn't worth much
Keep fishing some of the bigger river systems, better quality fish makes for better video content. Love the creeks but blue gills are blue gills 😂😂., start to lose interest after 5 tiny fish. Just my opinion, keep the videos coming.
Y'all need to learn how to pronounce "Susquehanna" properly.
Agreed. Bothers me every time he says it. But then, I grew up fishing it on the North Branch, near Bloomsburg
#7 👍🏻🛶🎣👀
Good luck (I know you know the results already).
