      Just the intro of the song while you’re in the main menu makes you think that the Clone Wars at a much closer glance was a very dark time for both sides. Both puppets and instruments to the Sith master plan. All that bloodshed and destruction just for Palpatine to bend the galaxy to his will when he became the Emperor. I love the Clone Troopers and I just felt bad for them when Order 66 was carried out. All those brothers losing control and killed all the Jedi who were there leaders and furthermore, their closest friends if they were a CO or a high ranking ARC Trooper like Rex and Jesse. And then there were the Battle Droids who were also following orders blindly only to get blown up and scrapped. The only true despicable people in the war were the Sith, Grievous, Durge, various bounty hunters like Cad Bane, Admiral Trench and the entirety of the Separatist High Council. Also Savage and Maul who served no side (except for Savage with the CIS) used the war to stir chaos and crime and carnage under their Shadow Collective banner. Even though the CIS Council was ultimately played by the Sith, they were still the worst of the worst, even the Zygerrians who straight up enslaving people en mass. Even though we sometimes forget about it, George Lucas and all of the people working on the Clone Wars series and in any other expanded universe & canon content were geniuses for giving us these stories and characters

      Thank you so much for writing all that, Ian!!
      Everything you've said is the intention behind this. The originality of the track is also what makes it impossible to upload on places like Spotify or other streaming sites... It doesn't classify as a "cover," which means it would require me to go directly to Disney and ask for permission to be able to "sell" this on music streaming sites. They don't give permission for that, and it would be illegal if I uploaded it and started making money from it.
      For anyone that's curious, here's the legal wording from the distributor I use: *Your authorization is limited to the reproduction of the Composition(s), and does not include the right to rearrange the Composition(s), synchronize the Composition(s) to visual media, publicly perform the Composition(s), or create a derivative work of the Composition(s) within the meaning of the term under Section 101 of the Copyright Act.*
      According to copyright law, I think my track would fall under "rearrangement." And I believe all fan made works are considered "derivative work." But my piece would have to sound exactly like "Duel of the Fates" in order for it to fall under "cover" territory. (I'm not a lawyer.)
      Also, I'm doing a lot behind the scenes to actually work WITH Disney in the next years, so tarnishing that relationship before it even begins is something I don't want to do. I want to respect and add to their creative and financial value, not take away.
      Really appreciate your thoughts on this-they mean a whole lot to me. ❤️

      @@DanielCiurlizza This is awesome! This is one of the best Star Wars themes I've ever heard! This song in of itself tells a story of tragedy, despair, and the eventual climactic end of a character's story. This song encapsulates the stories of the lives of Kenobi, Maul, and Anakin as those three were one's who have seen the most tragedy, despair, and destruction in their lives and have truly experienced the horrors of a war on a galactic front. This, to me, is more of a masterpiece, more of a story, and more of a love letter to the Star Wars franchise as a whole than anything Disney has ever produced thus far. This is what we fans love about Star Wars, how it brings people together, and even though we fans walk a brittle and rocky road, we will always love this franchise and we'll fight till the day we die to one day see it rise to its former glory like the Twin Suns above Tatooine. Thank you for masterpiece and may the Force be with you, always.

    It's weird to have nostalgia for this. I listened to this a lot back in 2017 with my friend, along with a couple other pieces. Those were good times. Now everything is dominated by Samuel Kim's epic orchestrations, which *are* damn good, but it's created less room for others. Then again, maybe with his absence from making constant Star Wars stuff for about a year now, other creators have slowly risen to make their own. But anyway, this is still fantastic after all this time, and I now wish I could experience it all again.

    • @DanielCiurlizza
      @DanielCiurlizza  2 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      Thanks for coming back!! I'd make more Star Wars stuff, but I've been working hard towards collaborating directly with the big studios for the past 3 years. Disney's Marvel division was the first team I got connected with back in 2019, and I've been working my way out from there. It's been a long journey and a major fight to the top every which way, but I'm feeling good about the adventure. Lots of progress, and my goals feel super close.
      Maybe in the next 10 years you'll hear an official Marvel or Star Wars score from me. I'm certainly working on it! (You might be able to hear that progress in my other non-Star Wars music.)
      Thanks again for coming by!

      I do enjoy a lot of Samuel Kim's arrangements and other work, however I feel that they tend to lack the complexity of a score written by Williams with more subtle use of themes. Don't get me wrong I love hearing his iterations of the Imperial March, but it's not exactly subtle when you feature it in full in every Star Wars arrangement, or even the multi-franchise collaboration arrangements as well. As a composer and arranger who studies Williams' works, I do tend to note that despite his broad variations across all of his themes, he still uses them only in key moments to preserve the special meaning of the motif. I love the scale and grand epic-ness of Kim's arrangements, but sometimes I feel that when I listen to them, I am listening to more a pep band hype-arrangement, and that's totally okay. Different composers and arrangers have different tastes, but it is hard when his constant reuse of big Star Wars motifs get clicks and drowns out the other composers who have a more Williams-style, subtle approach to incorporating themes, with sometimes a darker or deeper variation of the theme to portray an even darker side of the story. Even though this arrangement is a little motif heavy (at least to me), it is entirely based off an original work (We are Not Forgotten) that still incorporates the themes in a very unique and more subtle way, instead of just ripping the Imperial March and Duel of the Fates from the score note to note.

    • @Sobek-khufu
      @Sobek-khufu 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@malusofficial I do agree. It's always super annoying to listen to Kim's versions when Duel of the Fates and Rey's theme are in half of them, even subtly in non-Star Wars stuff. I think it kept most of his arrangements from being really great, but it could also be attributed to the very obvious trend train he follows. I mean, it's not exactly subtle when medieval music is popular and he makes a medieval style arrangement of all the most popular themes or when The Mandalorian comes out and everything even slightly related to the general idea of Mandalorian get an epic Mandalorian version. I would say that at least his Star Wars stuff wouldn't be able to fit into a movie, let alone make filler music or music for most types of scenes. But trailer music is something I can see working out.
      In any case, I enjoyed thinking about your comment, and I wish you well with your career.

    There are SO MANY musical elements here that would benefit a new Star Wars soundtrack. We've been hearing the horns and clarinets for decades. This is a vastly updated vision of what the epic yet emotional depths of Star Wars has always been. It blows my mind that across all of the Star Wars soundtracks, you will never find a piano, at least not as clear as this, and yet this sends chills down the spine. If not Star Wars, we need the likes of this for Mass Effect.

    God this cover is AMAZING! The choice to include the shimmering that sounds like Darth Vader's final breaths, as if you knew the Darkside within was dying. AND THEN HIS THEME PLAYS ON PIANO EVER SO FAINTLY! Just reminds me how tragic and bad ass his character is. Honestly, if it wasn't for him than the sci-fi and game/ nurd culture wouldn't be the Same. His character is truly one of the oldest and most influential AND bad ass villain's who created the bar on what a true villain is and still stands as one of the greats - and is A LOT better than man new villain's these days.

    • @DanielCiurlizza
      @DanielCiurlizza  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@pistolwarrior7126 Just here on TH-cam! It's the only place where I can guarantee not making money off of this specific "Master Recording," which has bits of the Star Wars themes written around it. Also...
      Since this doesn't fall into "Cover Song" territory (cover songs follow EXACT structures, melodies, etc.), it would operate under a different "money structure." All that considered, I wanna be sure I'm not getting any money that isn't due to me. Spotify and other streaming platforms automatically pay artists money, so if I start getting money from this Star Wars-related recording, I wanna make sure Disney/Lucasfilm gets what's theirs too. For now, I can't guarantee that they can with the resources and materials that I have.
      Keeping this on TH-cam is the only way I know that Star Wars fans can still enjoy it, Disney/Lucasfilm isn't losing out on any money they deserve, and I'm not getting money I'm not owed.
      Ultimately, this was a simple experiment to see if I could write different-sounding Star Wars music. You guys just made it (and my other music!) blow up. ❤
      TBH, I'm just happy that this gets to continue existing and bringing people joy.

    My friends got me into the Empire at War mod called Fall of the Republic. I usually dislike "overhauls" for games, but I got to the menu and I sat there listening for a while waiting for a friend to get back. This music is so SO good, especially the introduction to it. It has that feeling of a bittersweet ending to something special with the initial Violin (I think that's what it is). The rest of the track has something different, and perhaps more epic. I don't know how I'd word the ending from 2:40 beyond sounding like the embodiment of redemption. All of the pieces coming together to complete the puzzle, with the Violin once again returning but an octave lower, just hits everything correctly. I'd argue this music shapes the mod, and it's one of the few times that I've realised that I'm in a moment that I'll look back on with nostalgia.
    All in all, stellar work. I saw in other comments that you're working on bigger things with bigger studios. I wish you all the best with that, and I hope your career is fruitful :)

      Peter Fisher Well we can identfy the style of a compositor no matter how different be the songs, and we did with williams, the songs of the original were more a few slow and has the feel of a adventure history in a far place, in the new trilogy don't lost the adventure feeling but it's more strong, fast and epic, that notes specially in the battle scenes, the diference between the hoth and endor battles and geonosis and naboo, the fights of darth vader vs luke and the battles of qui gon/obi wan vs darth maul, or analin vs obi wan
      J.J. Abrams says that isl ooking for a most mature and adult feel for the new trylogy, so williams may be take the chance to do a more deep and dark sountrack

The song itself tells its own story, and that paired with the cinematic view of the games menu screen just….. pairs perfectly. It’s a 10/10 piece, and I’ll die by that statement XD
    In all seriousness tho, I’ve used this piece in many occasions. From Inspo/backing for my Star Wars RPs, to even backing for Star Wars tabletop games!! You’ve done brilliantly with this piece, you should be proud!

    The first time I heard this I thought "it's good, but it's not star wars"
    But now after seeing TFA it's grown on me. You've done well.
    This is STAR WARS.

      +Sir Stefan Channel! I just saw TFA for the first time last night and really enjoyed all of it - music was great, of course. But I also think it would be fun to take on a Star Wars film in the future. I bet a lot of people would really miss the John Williams style, but I also think it would really grow on people after watching the movie with a fresh score. Thanks for your thoughts!

    Probably the best piece of Star Wars music I've heard. There's an emotional core here, a desperate struggle against dark odds, and you can't tell if the song is about the darkness of the villian or the hope of the heros, which is some classic star wars stuff. I'll definately help inspire me for the book I'm writing, and I'm happy I found this after randomly playing the mod its featured in.

  • @Heckuvaguy

    This gets better each time I hear it. It makes me imagine a Star Wars sequel with grit, where a defeated Empire causes the galaxy to teeter on the edge of chaos. Where people question whether freedom and lawlessness is better than tyranny and control. Where the new Jedi are seen as emotionless peacekeepers in a time when people need love, and passion, and to be united by emotion. Where old heroes need to be reminded that they aren't the rebels anymore. And ex-Empire veterans seethe at the loss of all they held dear, waiting for an opportunity to hurt the 'hero' insurgents that tore down their government.
