It’s refreshing to see someone with a large platform bringing attention to this subject because most people don’t think about the reasoning behind things when it’s so obvious! They choose to ignore it out of fear and feel resentment for said person questioning their beliefs that they think are true. When people hear something all their lives as “fact”(lol) they can’t steer away and look at things from the perspectives of others. I’ve never related to an artist more in my life.
Ok but can we talk about how matty is such an inspiration and mature person? Like he really is young, but also he really out there showing some important stuff we don't care about, showing us how broken we are yet in an artistic way it's just so wow

I was talking to some of my friends from work the other day and somehow the topic of depression got brought up. One of the guys in the conversation said “everyone is a little depressed,” and we all just said “yeah,” and then we sat there in silence for a minute, reflecting. It was a raw moment between the 4 of us as we casually talked about depression, and it was really comforting. I got that same feeling listening to Matty talk. It’s like shit gets overwhelming and fucked up sometimes and i think everyone has those moments where you wish you could just turn it all off or fall asleep until your problems went away. It’s nice to know that a lot of people, if not most people, can relate, even if they won’t admit it.

Thinking about it is still unhealthy and can eventually lead to planning! You don’t have to be at rock bottom to go to therapy, try to go before that point!
That's a great sentiment and I have respect for the fact that you have schooling to back it up,but it's easier said than done. We can do the old "Seek help. Go to this place. Call this hotline." thing, but it's just not the reality for most. Mental health services are not as easy to attain, compared to care for physical injuries. This is compounded by the fact that a lot of people still brush off someone's mental health problems,as just being whiny or weak minded. Males have it worse, because society says that we're all tough guys who fear nothing. Living in a low income area, being a male, having no support system and having mental problems, is a recipe for disaster. I'm speaking from personal experience in regards to not only myself, but other people I know going through similar situations.
D F Im not saying it’s easy to get help or anything like that, because it is definitely hard ! but I don’t want people to think it is normal and healthy to have suicidal ideations from what matty said when it’s not. hope you are doing ok ❤️
I think what Matty is referring to is the figure of speech people use when something isn't going the way they want it. For example, when young people wake up with hangovers and they say "I wanna die". He isn't talking about the literal meaning.
2:26 it’s crazy bc I took a Philosophy of Religion class last semester and this is a huge thing we talked about, it’s very interesting to hear him talk about it
He looks like the guy who would do the “psst psst do you wanna know a secret” on the subway and scares tf outta you but then he actually has something to say and you start enjoying the conversation. And then you are like “damn did I just... 😳”
I love Matty and know he means well but I think the last few sentences he said could come across as demotivating to some individuals with severe depression, with the idea of bringing others down or that you just need to put a bit of effort in. It just doesn't work like that, if you perceive yourself as worthless or life as meaningless or the biological changes in clinical depression make the state of your body be in constant pain it can feel more shameful to hear those kinds of sentiments. So I just wanna let you know if you're at any level of severity of struggling with your mental health I love you and you don't deserve to feel ashamed and please reach out ❤️ I love the song and the band, all good vibes here 🌞
I agree but I think he’s just being tough love about it and not enabling people. With mental health it’s so easy to become an enabler and allow people to destroy themselves and others around them and say “it’s okay because they have depression/anxiety/ etc” sometimes you have to really bring it home and be like if you want to get better you have to “just try” and help yourself first. It’s hard, don’t get me wrong, but it’s necessary.
i think he meant it more frim an relationships standpoints. you can’t expect other people to go down with you and help you all the way along bc at the end of the day it’s not their problem. i think what he was meaning is nothing is gonna change if you don’t try to help yourself. other people can try as hard as they can to help you but if you don’t put that effort in too to help yourself, you can’t expect others to keep doing the same. i think he just said it very harshly
Wail Ouaissa I keep waking up in a simulation every morning. I don’t know why I wake up every morning, but it’s not an accident. My suffering is very real. The only thing that can offset the pain of living is the love I share with others who also have the same strange consciousness in the simulation as me. Neurons and chemicals are insufficient; the sum is greater than the parts. This love is transcendent, beautiful, a part of the simulation in a way that is deeper than patterns alone. It is part of the identity and structure of the simulation itself. These patterns and the spacial reality of the simulation speak to a conspiracy. The conspiracy of the meaning of the simulation that I keep waking up every morning. The meaning has been spoken throughout history. Brilliant minds and some gifted people have come closer the truth than we could have hoped for alone. They were standing on the shoulders of other giants and influenced directly by this transcendent power as they wrote and spoke the truth. It’s up to you to use your free will to find the truth. Not your truth. THE truth. Best of luck, my friend.

Good point, though it is probably true that almost everyone has had the thought before
I...needed this significantly more than I thought I did wow.
Thank you Matty, just thank you
im literally a lesbian but im in love with him
you don't need to be physically attracted to someone to love them.
Remember everyone; If you can’t survive, just try
i love this song and i'm so SO glad i decided to listen to more of the 1975
Holy crap, this spoke to me on another level. Matty, an intellectual ❤️
*the bag*
Yay! Matty is back on here! This time with a purse.
A murse
I just fall more and more with each verified video. What a man
"you cant just put an anchor down and drag everyone with you"
2:26 it’s crazy bc I took a Philosophy of Religion class last semester and this is a huge thing we talked about, it’s very interesting to hear him talk about it
I'm in love with him, he's a genius. I would love to just sit with him and have philosophical conversations.
Wow, probably one of the most insightful things I've ever heard. I love Matty, he's such a wonderful person and musician.
i really could spend hours and hours just listening to him talk
I love the nonchalance of this video and the fact that it’s still very genuine. Sure this rings home for so many people, as well as me 💗
He looks like the guy who would do the “psst psst do you wanna know a secret” on the subway and scares tf outta you but then he actually has something to say and you start enjoying the conversation. And then you are like “damn did I just... 😳”
Most genius interviews: singing the lyrics
Matty's: reads the lyrics like he doesn't wanna be there
He is so incredible
I really like how he doesn’t sing sing it like others he just read it as if it’s poetry 💓
I love how some artists don't know how to explain their own lyrics, and then Matty comes out with a full TED talk on a fucking song lmao
the matty content we're getting now is a lot and amazing and I absolutely love it!
So I just wanna let you know if you're at any level of severity of struggling with your mental health I love you and you don't deserve to feel ashamed and please reach out ❤️
I love the song and the band, all good vibes here 🌞
B I agree ,when you have no motivation to do things it’s difficult to put effort into the even simple things
B it was a really shitty thing for him to say
I agree but I think he’s just being tough love about it and not enabling people. With mental health it’s so easy to become an enabler and allow people to destroy themselves and others around them and say “it’s okay because they have depression/anxiety/ etc” sometimes you have to really bring it home and be like if you want to get better you have to “just try” and help yourself first. It’s hard, don’t get me wrong, but it’s necessary.
yeah i love him but that hurt my heart a little. idk if i agree with it
i think he meant it more frim an relationships standpoints. you can’t expect other people to go down with you and help you all the way along bc at the end of the day it’s not their problem. i think what he was meaning is nothing is gonna change if you don’t try to help yourself. other people can try as hard as they can to help you but if you don’t put that effort in too to help yourself, you can’t expect others to keep doing the same. i think he just said it very harshly
“Wanting and planning very DIFFERENT things.”
Good man for making that clear!
"i was an ATHIEST , now im like an anthiest" 🔥
And I love it if we made it
What's an anthiest?
Look at this purse, and the constant uploads from this album? HELL YA! thank you, next song
Matt has well-thought lyrics *WITH* deep meanings than other artists. This video just reminds me of why I appreciate and support The 1975. Wow.
honeslty love how matty has been showing up in my recommended featured in a new video everyday
Im religious, but not because I'm scared to die. It's because I believe there is a greater purpose for life.
Seeing this live immediately broke me
there's no point in buying concrete shoes

" *Wanting* to do it, and *planning* to do it, are two very different things. " As somebody who has experienced both, I can say this is very true.
