    So basically if you get chosen in this "Rescue", youre gonna:
    1) Get your room cleaned and furniture moved.
    2) Get free panels and get a free microphone :)
    Thats it.

    For all the ppl making jokes, the proper placement of your equipment is essential for getting a good quality mix, the distance between the monitors and you make a very crucial difference. And having a room that looks like crap just kills the mood and creativity aspect of sound recording. It may look like he's just cleaning and installing sound-proofing, but he is actually improving sound quality by 50 - 75 %. When it comes to this music game, every little improvement really counts.

    Francis, you`re doing a great job with what little but quality stuff you put your hands on.
    Showing the rest of us viewers it`s quite possible making changes when arming yourself and going at it (to work).
    Comfortably easy both to watch and catch up what`s beeing done, how and why.
    Really simple but good quality-vice at all the chosen stages to be needed by the viewer and like Francis, not forgetting all the potensial students out there..
    Great and super-sweet captivity of the overall simple but most important things in a studio for a starter-up/new-beginner as well as a pro soundman. All here in these videos to be seen and learned is needed for any person working with sound at any level.
    I wish I had seen something like this earlier on when I started making music in my home.

    that mirror behind causes a lot of reflections even with a soundproof gear.

  • @rodemic
    @rodemic  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Niko, with a home studio vocal booth, the idea is to tame all unwanted reflections as much as possible, enabling you to record a clean dry vocal sound that can be livened up with some reverb in post if necessary. You will want to use studio foam to deaden the walls, rather than reflective material. Do this gradually, with a few panels at a time until you are happy with the results. As always, use your ears rather than your eyes - once the room sounds right, you can stop adding acoustic panels

    Yea it would be really cool if he got some big sponsors who had resources to tear down the walls, buy better monitors in some cases, soundproof everything. Get in some mood lighting and stuff.. And did different things depending on the person and music style preferences.

    I agree with Michael. It's a great concept, but it needs some development. All scenarios are identical ("problems with the low end") and so are the solutions. I'd like to see more depth in the unique situation and a variety of issues. For example, in this episode I wanted to hear about the problems of putting speakers sideways. Also more background into the physics and how they apply specifically in each situation. Keep them coming! :)

    I'm wondering tho why you didn't place his desk against his "booth" wall seeing he had no easy place to hang foam against the mirror doors and the window. Yes that yellow foam would still be coming down for sure. Opinions anyone? Not on the yellow foam! On the idea of the placement of the desk.

    Everything this guy does to the rooms are essential to getting the best mix in a limited environment. Proper monitor placing, foam placing and even having your setup in the middle of the measured room is essential cause sound and bass travels. So he’s really giving these guys game and getting them on a right proper start to getting the best mix. The mic he gives as a gift in the end is endorsement/branding for a company he probably works for so it’s a good way to market the product. Good job Mr Francis.

    • @jrealm5464
      @jrealm5464 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is not true, the placement in this studio is awful, he has one very reflective surface on one side, and a not that reflective/covered surface on the other, that's basically destroying his stereo field perception and there is non-existent frequency balance, the "bass traps" made of polyurethane are not thick/dense enough to even come close to absorbing low frequencies, they only absorb high and mid-high frequencies poorly, the other panels placed on the back are even thinner, so they are even less effective and & pointless, you end up with a over absorbed (not even that much really) high end and a very live mid & low end, they only used "bass traps" on 1 corner, while the other was left untreated, the first reflection points arent even considered (Left & Right walls, ceiling, desk reflections, back wall), the speakers are sideways wich ignores the acoustical axis of the speakers and you end up with different phase sounds coming from the tweeter and woofer if you move even a little bit. The room is waaaay too small, at that point it'll just be better to pick another room that to bother even "treating" it, standing waves are not even mentioned, the listening position is also innacurate because the way the old man is measuring to get the equilateral triangle is to broad and he ends up with an isoceles triangle, the best way to position monitors is with stands and put them right against the wall or the furthest away from a wall possible, putting them on a desk is not recommendable. And man, the fucking sound effects.

    You actually shouldn't. Usually the dip in off-axis response, because of driver alignment and over-lapping frequencies at the x-over, is on the "down side", if you imagine the speakers are vertical and you're listening from below the on-axis level. The way the speakers are set up here it's clear that he's listening on the "upside" of the tweeters which usually is the flattest off-axis response. On well-designed speakers this is less of an issue anyways.
