This is a great companion piece to the longer video. Both long and short form videos have their place. I'm looking forward to viewing the longer version and seeing the explanation of what you're showing with the pencil and gouge angle when clearing the interior of the bowl. Excellent work!

@@KerryCorney I've been using almost exclusively traditional HSS tools lately. I'm not fantastic at sharpening them, but I'm okay. I do prefer traditional tools, I just have to keep myself honest about keeping them sharp. I'm currently doing a lot of very small spindle turning using a parting tool, a spindle detail gouge, and a small skew chisel. I've got a long way to go when it comes to bowl gouges though.
I loved this bowl when I watched the original. That may have been the first video of yours I saw. I still love this piece. Still praying your recovery is going well and that you’ll be back on the lathe soon.

My absolute favorite shape. All of my night stand junk bowls are almost exactly like that. The wife prefers the pedestal candy dish shapes. Heaven forbid me try to take those to a festival to sell. Keep getting better brother. Excited for us to get the all clear for you👍

Oh, and heres one thing I dwelled on the other week. Might be nice to have a video explanation around it and your opinion. Say you have a log and cut it into half rounds. The grain the in the middle is beautiful, so much so you want to showcase as much of it as you can. So do you do a reverse bowl with the bottom of the bowl using the middle of the tree, but losing a lot of size, or the more traditional make the outside of the tree the bottom and use the natural curve of the tree as the sides of the bowl. But you only have that grain on the top of the bowl sides. Conundrum for sure. I spent a good few hours thinking about this and finally chose to do some of both, will see after they dry how they turn out.

Unfortunately, I only made a short video on them. When my hand is better, I will make a longer version of the build process. The table is in three separate parts: the base, the top, and the leg. It’s important that the mortise and tenon joints from the leg to the top and base are a nice fit, and I use a strong quality wood glue for a really neat project. Another suggestion is to try and get quarter-sawn material for the top and base, ensuring that all the materials have a low moisture content to avoid cupping and warping.
