I remember meeting him selling his own merch. Obscura opened for Unearth and Dimmu Borgir I believe this was around 2001 - 2005 and he was wearing a Cynic t-shirt and I told him that was an awesome shirt. He said that if I liked Cynic then I’d like Obscura and I honestly kind of chuckled thinking that this guy is full of himself. I looked up Obscura’s music after the show because I actually missed their opening act and I felt really stupid for not believing him. I’m more than willing to admit I was wrong. If I’d known what I found out after the show, I would’ve bought all of their merch and gotten his autograph. Not only do I see the Cynic influence but I actually see how much they took what Cynic was doing with fusion even further and I’ve been a die hard fan ever since. I learned a valuable lesson too, don’t doubt musicians (of which I am one); rather give them the benefit of the doubt. I met one of the most talented musicians in my life that night and didn’t even know it. I’ve met tons of greatly talented musicians luckily though and did get to tell them how great they are, I just wish I would’ve have known and been able to tell him how great he is…

So I found out the first lick of the first solo is basically the first lick of the first solo in Sea Of Lies by Symphony X. It’s kinda neat cause they already did a ref like this in the solo for Incarnated but with a Cynic lick.
