Dude I remember trying to play Smoke before I knew what power chords were. I had no clue what I was doing. Fast forward 2 weeks and the next time I tried to play it, I did it almost perfect lol. And I didn't even learn power chords in between. By that time, I just kinda understood what I was looking at on the tab so I did it. 🤷♂️ It was quite a difference from the first time I tried to play it 2 weeks prior lol!
I tend to easily forget how hard it is as a beginner, I remember having a hard time even hitting strings below the E, took a bit to become comfortable, always a rough start
This is actually what it’s like to be a beginner, in case you reading this right now have not started learning yet lol. It’s hard, and slow, and requires patience, even for the easiest song lol
Come as you are was literally the second song I ever played on guitar (In bloom being first) I had just gotten my first electric guitar. This song took me 3 minutes to learn (I have to say that I’m not a fan of the solo In school)
Yeah I remember picking up the guitar for the first time many moons ago 😆 the frustration was fucking real 😂 just practice practice practice then practice some more 👍 and then some more.
I think I must have been taking for granted my prior musical experience from before I really picked up a guitar. Once he played the riff, even as a beginner guitarist or even as a straight up beginner musician, I wouldn't need him to be spelling out every single fingering and string to hit. It would come easy enough with a push in the right direction. So I was watching this like "WTF its not that hard even as a beginner!", but like I said its good to remember that I was never a "true" beginner on guitar, and people have different experiences than myself especially a non-musician. Music is hard, man. And it makes me appreciate how far I've come even if I still suck, and makes me appreciate how wide of a spectrum music is on. And that everyone has a different natural talent for it but still everyone can play if they try :)
That's my thinking. Whats so great about pedals? Alot of money for not that much of an effect. But i've only been playing for 2 years, maybe the pedal hype has yet to hit me.
DrDope164 Pedals are dope, but it’s a very slippery slope to eating up your bank account. The first Nirvana song I learned was About a Girl. It was actually the first song I ever learned. It was a great tune to help me with chord changes, since Em to G is an easy transition between shapes.
G especially is a hard one to get at first, at least in my experience. Lots of notes being fingered at once and that stretch from the 1st to 6th string (especially in the shape where the ring finger is on the low e and the pinky on the high e) was always hard for me to nail on the first go. Good choice for a song to help get past all that

This what being a beginner is really like, it’s difficult, it’s frustrating and it’s no wonder that most people give up! But you have a good tutor who is patient, so you just have to stick with it and keep practicing.
I am wanting to learn guitar. I however have a disability where most of my joints are fused. My elbows, neck, partial wrists, knee, and spine. "How do you hold the pick?"
No existential questions! 🤣🤣
I was gonna go out for the first time this month but this takes priority
Also I swear most people learn smells like teen spirit first
NOPE COME AS YOU ARE
@@ti-jeanmartin8398 yes, most people learned smells like teen spirits first
That song is hard to play right as a beginner! I remember being thought that song to learn up and down strumming.
I recommend anyone to play come as you are first. The beginners I taught it to got it instantly and found it really gratifying. :)
such an amazing teacher
Weeeeell actually the first nirvana riff I learned was Smells Like Teen Spirit
In bloom for me
same here brother, first riff and first solo i ever learned
First bassline I ever learned was this song. Super easy, same with Smells Like Teen Spirit.
This what being a beginner is really like, it’s difficult, it’s frustrating and it’s no wonder that most people give up! But you have a good tutor who is patient, so you just have to stick with it and keep practicing.
I learnt something in the way first. But when I learnt this, I felt like a guitar master. Now, after 20 years, I’ve learnt the entire nevermind album
Now try a real guitar players album.
@@NONO-ic6fe or just let him play what he likes to play lmao
I am wanting to learn guitar. I however have a disability where most of my joints are fused. My elbows, neck, partial wrists, knee, and spine. I thought maybe for me I should try doing it like Jeff Healey. I may be able to play the regular way. I don't have a guitar yet, but I would like a nice beginners one or better. I think what your doing here is great. Teaching your wife how to play. Great bonding time and learning guitar. Loving the videos. Thanks for sharing.
