I can't help but ask how many iconic riffs, people chant is stadiums across the globe, they've written? And I couldn't be any less impressed with those Instagram "shredders". Music is not an athletic sport.
Easy to play and easy to write are two entirely different things.

Guitar Stuff Not really. If the video was about the entire song, the overall songwriting, another instrument, the vocals, etc then you’d have a point. But it is specifically about the guitar riff and nothing more. I personally love the song, it’s always been one of my favourite Nirvana tracks and it’s very emotive. Cobain’s voice is stellar in the choruses. But as a guitar player I “learned” this song once, laughed and never played it again. It is very much a simple and bad guitar riff. That’s not stupid. Try not to sound like a butt hurt fan and see the reality of it. Beautiful song, brutal guitar riff.

Hey Tyler, Kurt played 'Something In The Way' in two different variations, the first was his Unplugged performance (arguably my favorite) which consists of Drop C tuning and him playing on the 4th frets of the C and G (E/A strings). He does this almost as a double stop but then picks each note individually to the rhythm. Also he throws in a few power chords as well, but I believe they differ from the method he used when playing the more "grungy" version.

In defense of nothing else matters, when it was first written, James would sing it to his girlfriend over the phone and so he couldn't use his left hand. So at the time it was written, the open string riff was the main and only riff of the song. And even without that, I'd still consider it to be the main riff of the song.

Milan Milacic the more you play, and the more you learn, you’ll start to recognize certain chords/chord structures, scales, and intervals between notes. Almost like how once you learn letters and words as a kid, you can just start reading familiar words without effort, except in this case it’s with your ears instead of your eyes (I hope that makes sense). Keep playing and you’ll be able to do this as well, if you haven’t gotten to that point already. :)
