C&C Generals: Rise of the Reds - Comparing Light Anti-Air Vehicles

- Rise of the Reds or ROTR for short is a massive mod for Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour.
The mod adds 2 brand new factions, the frontal breakthrough focused Russian Federation and the defense-oriented European Continental Alliance or ECA for short.
The mod also vastly revamps the original factions, giving them new units, buildings, upgrades, and more!
Other improvements include a focus on army diversity, a new 2-tier tech system, amphibious capabilities, and more!
Today we will be comparing each faction's light anti-air units. These combat vehicles are essential to any army for their capabilities.
We will be covering their production aspects, weapons, abilities, speed, combat, and more!
I plan on doing more of these for other General's Mods and more units from ROTR.

Yeah, those four-barreled guns could screw anything up.
It's kind of fragile against tanks and not really ideally-suited to popping them, but a tleast in unmodded C&C:G, they're pretty brilliant.
@@lexslate2476I find that a combination of technicals and quad cannons work really well. First salvage upgrade of the technical grants it an RPG.
I like how the Gepard goes from being defeated by everyone to practically dominate almost everyone, upgrades really matter.
That's the impression I'm getting across most their vehicles. Baseline they're the worst, upgraded they're the best. Kind of fits their style in game, turtle up and snowball the upgrades until they're unstoppable.
They have the highest armor compared to the other light AAs but also the lowest dps.
My only complaint with the stats in the beginning is that Russian maroon color makes it barely readable on the dark background

Avengers would have probably done better at the air defense comparison closer to the trucks cause of the PDlaser
The USA in RotR is a VERY micro-intensive faction. Carefull use of its extreme specialisation it what the USA is all about.
in zero hour, enough avengers can make scud launchers and rocket buggies basically useless
You know I've been thinking about the Avenger, a month or so ago.
The Gatling Tank and Quad Cannon are both Anti-Infantry and Anti-Air, and have been since base Generals.
The Avenger wasn't present in the base game, but it strikes me that the same role would have been given to the Humvee, once it had the TOW Missiles. I suspect the introduction of the Avenger was a balancing move against General Granger, since it's the only US AA unit that isn't missile based and thus can bypass the Point Defenses of Granger's planes. But since the Humvee is still an anti-infantry unit, they made the Avenger a dedicated anti-air unit and a support ground one.
I think the USA should remove their heavy AA vehicle as it's just too boring and has too much overlap with the Russian one. They should buff it to make it the USA's heavy AA vehicle and make a new light AA vehicle, maybe a drone as they tend to be cheap.
The USA had advanced technology of Laser the Avenger is literally labeled laser beam that scorch around everything incinerate it that's why they militarized it
I think it's worth pointing out that if the avengers were close to the POW trucks in the airstike test it neturalize a few of those missiles.
Gepard is my favourite, But the Gatling Cannon is defintely the most useful one of the bunch

The difference between upgraded and unupgraded ECA units is just insane, in all these comparisons.

@@ToriusHeart Focus on defence until all your stuff's fully upgraded then go on the offensive. Basically a chronic turtler's (like me) go to faction.

I used to play this MOD but quitted and im still happy that its still alive this needs more attention best game that i had of my childhood keep it up😁

You might wanna consider doing fully upgraded tests without the max veterancy, since realistically they will be very rare in game and also different units get affected by it differently, such as avenger which gets very little buffs from it vs the gepard which goes from fairly low damage to one of the highest in the mod

GLA Quad cannon is kinda OP in my eyes when it got upgraded to lvl2 salvage. It become anti-everything unit.

I'd replace the dark red text for russia with bright red and the chinese red with orange for better readability in the opening

This is a great series you are making. Although, don't the Speaker towers give a ROF buff to Chinese units, and so I wonder what the results would be if the Gatling could make use of the buff. But this is not about synergy, but head to head. I was surprised that the Tunguska didn't perform the best, but then again it only has two upgrades, both of which are heavily favoring its SA missiles over its autocannons. Wonder when you are going to do artillery; I am interested in seeing which artillery is king.
Fun fact: Quad Trucks are effectively used on ground units or raiding the base by only Quad trucks are very effective destroying the structures faster
To easily destroy bases, you need 4 or 6 quad trucks and a pair of upgrades (Armor piercing shells) can destroy any type of vehicles such as tanks, Aircraft, helicopters. Depending if they fire quickly or slow, i tested this 4 hard army(USA, China) vs a horde of GLA Quad Trucks more than 100 vehicles.
Quad trucks can protect your base without any defenses by using 8 or 4 Quad trucks.
Imagine seeing 240 Quad trucks vs a horde of powerful chinese helicopters
this must have taken a very substantial amount of effort. Kudos.
I must say the 2nd interception test for the avengers is invalid for the obvious reason that the targets they are meant to protect are outside the pdl range completely nullifying the test and upgrade that was supposed to be tailor made for that reason. That and i like the avenger the most so it felt wrong that it was wronged.
Fun fact, the tangushka has 4x30mms irl and 8 76mm caliber missiles also has an impressive 21/horse to ton ratio which is faster than the gepard irl.

Not bad, but considering how the point defense upgrade works for the avenger it should have been closer to the trucks for the test at 30:00.

Actually in the RoTR Hanpatch the Flakpz Gepard has an upgrade which it enables the vehicle to fire Starstreak missile.

I wish devs would make machine gun on ECA vechicles just a resachable upgrade, or at lest make it meaningfull. Now it's cost in money and micro is just stupid compared to it's benefit

That’s mostly because only ground units have been examined, while the USA relies on its advanced infantry (like Missile Defenders Vanguards, Javelins and Snipers) and Air Force (their various fixed wing and rotary winged assets like Raptors, Reapers and Comanches).
Yeah i just hope that they'll buff up some or even most of the us units in the upcoming 1.9
Agreed and the Soviets come out at the top 99% of the time
US units felt like a surgical knive, good at what it supposed to do but suck at anything outside their scope. Pathfinders, Javelin teams, Avengers, did well against their intended target, but deals little or no damage to anything else. USAF is very precise and potent, but they are squishy.
To use a Red Alert 3 phrase, Russia brings a Soviet Apocalypse Tank to a Cryocopter fight. The Cryocopter tends to win.
And just like Red Alert 3 Soviets, one of the best Russian units is the "underpowered" Conscript, the basic infantry that loses 1v1 to every other basic infantry, at least in 1.86. It even kept the same name.
Some of best units in this game are probably the US Raptor which is oppressive at tech 1 and can force the enemy to spend more in building units in tech 1 instead of building their tier 2 tech building; the ECA Harrier jump-jet, and the China Disruptor Team.
Wait, did the Avenger lose its point-defence laser? Oh, it's an upgrade.

The audio quality of the Gepard should be improved, or rather, made louder, I sometimes can't hear what he says.

It funny to me how Russian Units are only good at the start and then drop off due to lack of upgrades (aside from conscripts, who are the absolute worst).
reminds me of the Russian army irl.
The soviet army was actually really good at the start of the cold war, and they were ahead of the US in some fields, ( sometimes far ahead, for example with tanks ) . . . however, it fell off as technology started becoming more and more important.
If you're seriously gonna say that faction with units like Kodiak, Grumble, Gorgon, Hellion or RPG trooper suffers from lack of upgrades, then you're either bad or never actually played the mod.

By the order of The Great Leader and The Party, Gatling Tank crews that have clearly failed to properly utilize clearly superior armaments of clearly superior Gatling Tanks are to be dishonorably discharged.

The Avenger might get a buff in 2.0 because it's going to be an exclusive unit for the General Thorn ( Special Operations General)
The other 2 USA General's are gonna receive a different light AA unit.
.... last i checked avengers almost completely nullified any missile based unit in the game just because the pdl has insane interception dps and in 1.8.6 an avenger can single handedly stop a grad barrage effectively making it almost completely immune to missiles. That statement extends to missile based defenses, as you can literally nullify a stinger site, protector missile system and rpg tower just by parking an avenger infront of them

Honestly both Gatling Tanks and Quad Cannons does a better performance than both the Gepard Flakpanzer and Tungushka in terms of their dmg performance

never knew gatling tanks were this weak
They aren’t when you mass them, they’re only kind of mediocre when alone or in small numbers (like most Chinese units)
They cost 700$, the same price range as the Quad. And yet they do better against light vehicles than both the Quad and the Gepard (which costs 900$) and is only out-gunned completely by the 1000$ costing Tunguska. And once you have 5 or more, they become notably more effective. Not to mention the increased bonus if you bring along a Troop Crawler (provides the same bonus as a Speaker Tower).
That dark red text you use for the Russian stuff is hard to see. Dark text on dark background = please don't.
