The twin fang I think is the worst though cause heavy AA is supposed to be used in small numbers since they don't contribute anything to the land battle. The short range of the Twin Fang is also an issue. I think the Grumble and the Wotan are the best ones. The grumble can create very effective non-fly zones while the Wotan is great at escorting ECA assaults.
My biggest criticism of this test is that heavy AA units are the counter for planes and airstrikes (ie., bombers). They aren't really designed to counter helicopters effectively, which is the job of light AA. In the correct application, the Grumble and Ural are the best since they can either use long range or stealth to intercept planes before they attack. The Patriot is gimped in this regard because USA has better heavy AA as a base defence (cyclops laser)
The low damage of the Ural is kind of an issue though. You need to have them in the right spot to intercept and even if you do they won't shoot down heavy aircraft.
I used to be more infuriated by the S-300! They knocked my Comanches down half the map! And the carpet bombardments did not keep up with the necessary coordinates!
Idk if any of them can. I know about grumble for sure, friendly fire got removed because it's explosion has huge splash, and use to down or heavily damage your own units.
I actually think the Patriot SAM should be removed as it is too similar to the Grumble and doesn't really fit the high tech gimmick theme of the USA all that well. I think they should make the Avenger the heavy AA vehicle and make a new light AA vehicle.
@@MrMarinus18 The Patriot is fine for what it is, it compliments the Avengers with range while the avenger can act as point defense, and then there's also the Cyclops which is the true long range AA the US has... arguably the best

Has the Wotan been buffed in 1.9? I remember that in 1.86 they are easily picked off by pairs of Raptors. Edit: Also, the Grumble's missiles count as cruise missiles (same as Tomahawks). Only the Avenger can shoot them down with its main weapon, not the PDL. The USA Guardian Angel can also shoot them down. Since it's a cruise missile, due to the game's engine, countermeasures don't treat it as a projectile fired by rocket infantry, vehicles or base defenses.
@Đorđe Stamenković I've seen it happen in 1.87. A Grumble missile approaching my Harrier and pressing the chaff dispenser just as it is about to hit causes the missile to swerve towards the ground.
I know Grumbles cause me the most problems as USA. My usual strategy of Nighthawk raids is pretty much hard-countered by Russian Conscripts w/ stealth detection and Grumbles. Bombing runs are suicide missions. No other faction gives me nearly as much grief.
@Sinke Verbruggen Skirmish. AI keeps 3-4 Grumbles in their base, and spams Conscripts constantly, so stealth is practically impossible. Even more of a nightmare when they're a person, of course.
@@astro6009 Most pvp match I saw back in 1.87 early days lasted 15-20 minutes. It can be hard to amass more than a couple of heavy AA, on top of other vehicles.
@Eanki I'd wager that was higher-level play. I'm no pro of course, and am not as fast or aggressive or multi-attentioned as a pro. So I give opponents time to make a few Grumbles.
I never use the Grumble as a standalone unit; I use them as the centerpieces of mobile air defense divisions that follow assault units. The ratio I use is 2 grumbles flanked by 6 tunguskas (three covering each Grumble's flank), two repair vehicles (covering 1 grumble, 3 tunguskas and one sentinel each), and 2 Sentinel tanks with the arena upgrade (covering 1 grumble, 3 tunguskas and 1 repair vehicle each). Those divisions can be beefed up with 2 Grizzly APCs with an infrared goggle-equipped conscript in each, which should take be able to ID hostile stealth units.

Doesnt make the avenger the moving sam obsolete due to its damage potential and speed? Also maybe they should make the ural make attack ground targets witg different weapons, like lmgs. Those sandbags shouldnt be wasted tbh.
The Ural Truck is the cheapest of the bunch. Its camouflage can catch unsuspecting enemies off guard too, so it does have some positives going for it. The Patriot Sam also has its advantages. Kiting with it can increase its effectiveness greatly. USA also has the luxury of the best aircraft in the game, which gives them even more options to deal with enemy aircraft.
The Ural can also get bugged sometimes where it becomes locked in a state of deploying and undeploying. It can't attack, move, or stealth. Maybe it happens only in potato laptops or maybe it is the game engine being old. I haven't encountered this with Urals upgraded into SA-3 though. A point for the Patriot over the Wotan in my opinion is frontloaded damage. Some generals powers aircraft just needs to die quick (US leaflet drop and China EMP drop). Burst damage does that best. But in general, the Wotan is the most flexible and the damage of 5-6 of them kills a bomber quick anyway. Just needs to get to that point where you buy more than a couple. Stat wise, I agree with the ranking but the Twin Fang is working off of a very strong economy base compared to the Wotan.
