+Luigi Sari I think they are on par with one another in terms of quantifiable technique. look up the album truth in shredding, it has Gambale and Holdsworth playing together, it is incredible and you will know what I mean afterwards.

Notice the way he's almost voicing or singing the notes at the same time he picks. This is a great exercise and technique for developing a real connection to the keyboard and knowing your intervals.. Imagine developing riffs as easy as whistling or scatting. Franktastic !

yep, gambale could learn slash riffs, or more precisely, hear them, get a les paul and a marshal stack and wail in that style. Slash couldn't do what gambale does. Both are great guitarists at what they like to do, but one is more studious and omnivoric.
I don't think Slash can be summed up as "that's all". There'll always be someone who knows more, and even at Frank's level there are/were superior players.
I confirm HE IS Damien Schmitt. I met them just before that concert (and my video), while Frank Gambale and Dominique DiPiazza were having a coffee. Not only great musicians but also nice persons.
Love Frank - skill set off the scale but don't know why I'm not crazy about his tone.. Would love to hear a warmer slightly compressed tone with a little bloom on the notes...
It's always the same, once he starts doing that fuckin sweeping, he will start to lean into it more and more. Very good technique, yet nothing to say musically. The best players can create temporary themes inside the solo. Gambale does not seem to be able to do it. He rarely, if ever, explores anything. It is mostly pre-meditated stuff, pre-fabricated really. He is on the level of a top studio musician. Nice sound, nice licks, no fire whatsoever.
