FG & Allan Holdsworth on the same stage one night in Washington DC in 1986!!! Allan’s band was the back up to Chick Corea’s Elektric Band and I think, Franks first year on tour playing with Chick. Next time I saw Frank was in 2005 with Steve Smith’s “ Vital Information “ band on a very cold, snowy December evening in St. Michael’s Maryland ( Blue Crab Headquarters). During a mid- show break, I approached Frank as he was making equipment settings on stage. He was warm, receptive and down to earth nice guy. Intuitively, Frank sensed I was going through a tough time in life, not knowing details, but just gave me word of encouragement and cheer that surprised and impressed me a great deal.
Always flat out bakes my melon! Frank has such a masterful way of introducing so many varied phrasings into his compositions, always doing so in such a way as to transport us seamlessly through his process. It's really kind of a gift to have Frank's work and level of current activity. Thanks, man--
@@unforgettablejazzfusion5546 Oh I agree 100%. I have had the pleasure of seeing him live with The Chick Corea Electrick Band a few times. Post show he is a true gentleman. My all time favorite guitarist. I treasure my complete collection of signed FG albums and DVD's
FG is a stylish guy. Apart from his note choices he is playing a yellow and black guitar wearing a yellow and black shirt. Even the clip-on tuner on his guitar's headstock is yellow and black!
Ive seen Petrucci, Romeo, Broderick, Loureiro, Loomis...but the scariest guy Ive ever seen live is this guy... after the concert I went backstage with a friend of mine and I just couldnt talk to him... I had to tell my friend to ask him to please sign my copy of one of his instructional vhs tapes I had from years ago ... totally starstruck
That is one cool list of guitarists you saw live. I have been watching and enjoying Kiko’s livestreams a lot lately. At least one positive thing with all these lockdowns.
I just could not be that guy either. I froze where i stood and everyone else had their records and tshirts signed, having moronic questions to him and just blabbering about 🤢 I couldn't bear myself to try to talk to him since words lack mening. I don't regret it. It's better this way 😂 I doubt that i would make his day anyway 😁
@@Felix-78 I meet Kiko a couple of years back in a laney clinic in my country, jammed with him and he totally kicked my ass..but the best part was hanging out with him backstage, laughing with the dude etc, he is one of my heroes, He was really really cool and fun to be around, and of course a migthy player. But Gambale was something else, I felt like I wasnt worthy of even being in the same room with him…the truly greats have an aura about them..they’re not just playing notes…with them is more transcendental
Ladies and gentlemen, you are watching a master at work here. Not only is the technique clean and flawless, the lines (fast and slow) are melodic and tasteful. The fast-sweeping passages can only be described as blistering.
Well said...absolutely a master...been playing 40 years and never have used that term before...timing is impeccable with those phrases too...later bro...
I met Frank Gambale at a guitar clinic at Alta Loma Music in 1988. I was brave enough to ask him a question during the clinic. I asked him what he thought of Allan Holdsworth. He said something like: "I think he's the best. I think he's a genius. I think that 10 years from now we will all say 'Oh, that's what he's doing.'" First off, what an awesome compliment for Allan Holdsworth. Secondly, how come 34 years has gone by and we still don't know what Allan Holdsworth was doing. Also Frank played so awesomely at the clinic that everyone was literally laughing. Except maybe me. I was studying his every move. Lol. Love you Frank. 🤘
Frank’s tone is one of the sweetest. Love those fluid runs and his phrasing and the little hints of blues in his playing. Not to mention his trademark sweep technique
Frank's playing to a backing track at a gear show for industry folks in an unforgiving venue, and my heart is pumping like I've been running for an hour! Very exciting player for me.
I have some inside skinny on FG from his gig with the Airforce band up here in Anchorage Alaska. He gets here the day before the big for one one quick rehearsal. My buddy was the trumpetser in the band. He said FG rewrote the horn lines on the spot. It was a killer concert, and yeah, like another chap posted, Frank is scary...
nobody can fast pick and sweep as clean and has as nice accent as Frank. And love his songs, his melodies are so beautiful. (well max ostro can but frank's songs and melodies are way way up there)
When you’re as good as Frank it must be effortless - just look at how much he’s enjoying it! I’d by in tears trying to play through just the first few bars!
i would add dave fuzinsky as third. assuming we need not to remember john mclaughlin jeff beck bill frisell larry coryell jim hall scott henderson and ry cooder or jimmy page and why not steve lukather too
Maybe underrated by the Malmsteen fanboys, but definitely not for the people in the ¨know¨. The greatest musician of our era, Chick Corea, chose him for a reason. He definitly is my GOAT if I had to choose just one guy.
I don't rate Frank's tone. Great technician. Also he's just not melodic or as special as a holdsworth or hendrix or Mc laughlin who also are/were great composers
Frank is not only a killer musician, but also a really nice guy. Had the honor of interviewing him for a podcast and I was impressed at his openness to share valuable information.
I still think Frank should have had an endosement with Ormbsy guitars, But Kiezel are just equally the same, but its an Ausy company, that was all I was thinking.
I love his playing. I watch a ton of his videos. Theres a channel on YT that breaks all his stuff down on sheet / tab and plays to it. This dude has CRAZY licks. So glad I found frank gambale.
man that was some top hat shit!!!!!!! so greatful hes still with us!!! lane, holdsworth, gambale these guys were holographic characters in the third dimension!!!!!!!!!
dammit Frank, do you have to absolutely blow the world up every time you play a guitar?? Ill be crawling around looking for my face for a week!! sheeeeeesh man...

Wish I had been there when Frank and Allan shared the stage.. that's insane !!!
I saw that tour up in Buffalo in either '86 or '87, awesome!
He never looks like he's going to miss anything.

Frank is a stone cold killer! The smiling shredder!
Frank is THE MASTER. Also one of the greatest jazz-fusion composers of the 20th century, hands down.

It's very bachian, right?
As an Aussie I'm so proud of FG... one of our best exports.

Yup and Brett Garsed

The guru of funk shreds ❤
The best fusion player ever! Awesome
Him and holdsworth to me.

Frank Gambale is the phrasing, and tone king
Fantástico, simples assim 🇧🇷🎸👊
And he's probably "just having a little fun"...
Gambale is a monster, I regret not looking into him earlier.
That must have been quite a moment in time. Dude is a monster.
Frank is and has always been a BAD ASS GUITAR PLAYER. Yea,,,,
LEGEND!
Chick picked him as his guitarist in electric band years ago, not much else to say
he played better than album version
A genius is a genius.
Meu idolo
Frank Gambale is Claudio Bisio ( famous italian comic actor ) playing guitar...
Ahahahah, ma dai.. Ci assomiglia leggermente
Meatre grande Mestre
I like this man skill batter than malmsteen.....Much more tasteful!
You can t compare them
They re both masters in what they do
@@gypzino This is both true and untrue......
That's the best tone I've heard Frank use in years, needless to say his chops are Bananas !!! I wonder what rig he was using ...🤔

Does anybody know the name of this song.

6.8 Shaker from the Passages album. FG Admin
Jazz Metal? New Genre? Why Not!?! Just Play the notes you want to. Lol👍🤣
Rick Beato brought me here
That guitar reminds me of the Ibanez days, Still Frank can turn anything he touches to gold.

The song is called 6.8 Shaker off his 'Passages' album.

Unfortunately, Allan Holdsworth passed away in 2017. R.I.P., Mr. Holdsworth.

Gambale is SO cool, and such a fearless player!!
Frank should have the highest self-esteem being aware that nobody can beat him in his own game.
He can surely play wit the best of em. Only guitarist I think could challenge him is Buckethead
Frank's playing to a backing track at a gear show for industry folks in an unforgiving venue, and my heart is pumping like I've been running for an hour! Very exciting player for me.
Late reply, but I felt exactly the same way wacthing this. My palms are sweating, haha.
Even if you don’t like his music, he’s still fun to watch because you can tell he’s enjoying what he’s doing.
@ 4:09 Monster lick. Those 3 note up sweeps. Frank rules!
Unless you can play at this level, you have no right to whinge about fret board radius.

Not so underrated, in the jazz-rock guitarists community they are gods.

Scary guitar playing. I absolutely adore FG.
Anyone recognize those facial expressions? Somehow reminds me of Eddie VH. It’s obvious they both simply, thoroughly, enjoy playing.
How did he make the guitar sound like a keyboard in some places?👀😊 If fingers had wings, his would be of the hummingbird persuasion!😄 Coolio!❤
I still think Frank should have had an endosement with Ormbsy guitars, But Kiezel are just equally the same, but its an Ausy company, that was all I was thinking.
Amazing how shocked Gambale, the master, is once he notices how loud he amp is set lol Check 0:11

Solo hay dos tipos que realmente me asustan cuando los veo, uno es Frank y el otro es Shawn lane.
His proficiency is something to marvel. Love his work with Chick.
What scares me the most about frank is that he can play exactly everything he just played with an acoustic guitar
No one can do that !😮
This is improvised over a backing track. When the chef is cooking, the place gets burned down!

This shouldn't surprise anyone. FG has been at the top of the tree for 4 decades.
The groove of this tune is awesome!

what in the fuck was that 4:10 gah dayum
Alternate picking like a beast ❤ respect
Yikes. I never heard of Frank until Chick introduced him in the mid-80's with the electric band. Good gawd what a talent.
I never tought about my guitar matching my shirt.
hey, that guitar is playing a shirt!
I think this is Jesse Michel recording in the back. A really incredible sweeper and a great metal guitarist
Yeah
4:11 🤯🤯😂😂
ha ha ha, all heads are nodding (0:42) . He is master of his game!
I watch Frank play, the same way I'd watch Penn and Teller do their thing. It's magic.
Melody maker!
When you know everything about the guitar but you know how to convey all your emotions as well.
Not sure I'm sold on the guitar sound, but the playing is fantastic.
