    If you’ve been around the football community long enough, you’ll have definitely heard the word - farmers league. It’s a word you see people throwing around to banter or troll all the time directed especially at the Bundesliga and Ligue 1. They’re basically saying what you think theyre saying - that those leagues are played by farmers and their trophies are quote and quote ‘mickey mouse.' But where did this term come from? Why is it used so often to describe Germany and France's top leagues? Is it right to use this word? where is the true farmers league really? Leave a like if you enjoyed to help with the algorithm since this took a while to make and had multiple copyright issues 🙏 ❤️ Love you all

      There is are so many more comparisons you could have considered to make the arguement of quality but seems like you had your bias. Eg average age of players, average goals, difference in goals difference in the top 4, numbers of players playing their national teams, number of players with second jobs.
      We call these leagues farmer's league for the lack of quality in the overall game. There is even a big gab between the Spanish and English league. Very soon the premier league will be almost equivalent to the quality of the champions league considering that teams like Newcastle will attract more talents.

    No top 5 league is a farmers league, but without Premier League fans the term wouldn't even exist. When Bayern lost to 2nd place Liverpool or Atletico/Real to 4th place Chelsea they were everywhere calling those leagues farmers leagues, but when 7th placed Lyon beat City it of course didn't apply to them.

      @Bernardo Slongo i would say it is inevitable, although due to their size and cheer talent productioj they will always be strong leagues, today the brazilian league for example is more valuable than any other leaguen outside of the top 5 and historically they for a good 50 years were no doubt had a better level of football than the french, spanish or english leagues for example. It is simply how globalization works, the richer leagues tend to get better as the years progress, the 90s were still the beginning of that process so they was still virtually no gap there, 30 years later obviously things are different

    EPL is just over hyped by media. That's it. Every league and country has their own style of play and the premier league's style is more dynamic and fast paced which is entertaining to watch, but that doesn't mean it's dominant.
    For example, Real Madrid and Barca has been dominating the Europe for over a decade. Only now Liverpool and man city has started that kind of rivalry and dominance, but people are already over hyping it now, because the social media was not as powerful and as influential 10 years back.

    In my Opinion there's NO such thing as FARMERS LEAGUE!
    Manchester United won 7 of the first 10 premier League seasons
    Barcelona Also won 7/10 la Liga last decade
    Between 2007 to 2013 there were SIX different french league champions
    The club with most top flight title is a joint record of 10 despite the fact that the French league commenced in the 1890s
    Juventus absolutely dominated the serie A 9 wins in a row including 2 outstanding seasons....... going unbeaten then ranking up 102 points the next season
    BFC dynamo and also Dynamo Dresden once dominated the Bundesliga the way Bayern is right now!!
    Some leagues have a culture of clubs dominating it for a period not because of "lack of competitiveness" as it is branded ..
    City wins the league this season that's 4 of the last 5 ........who are the the farmers then ?And do you see city stopping soon?

    "Farmer's League". It's one of those insulting terms that is used a lot by obnoxious fans of the EPL, that really highlights their bias, even the commentators promote these thoughts, I'm looking at you Mcmanaman. It's the same sentiment behind past statements like
    La-liga is just an easy league that is not competitive (2 horse race), counter to that, that's what the EPL is now
    Guardiola wins because of Messi, because of Barca, anyone can do that, couldn't play that kind of football in the EPL, counter to that, Pep gets 100 points in the EPL, if he wins this year, he would have won 4 in 5, only manager to do the English clean sweep
    Klopp hasn't won anything important (despite have 2 Meisterschale), can't do it in the EPL, counter to that, any EPL side would take him now with what he has done, is pretty much the most liked manager in the EPL
    Messi couldn't do it in a cold night at Stoke, Messi couldn't perform in the EPL, EPL would be too physical for Messi, counter to that, David Silva considered one of the best ever EPL midfielders, great but not as good as Messi, he'll tell you that himself, not as strong and physical as Messi, Mata had a field day with Chelsea, Zola, Crouch none are physical players, then there is Messi's record against the best EPL teams, only 5 players have scored more against them than him, and he's never played in the league.
    Any player/manager that achieves success anywhere else, there is the arrogance from EPL fans that they somehow need to do it in the EPL to prove themselves to the fans like that makes any sense. They don't remember players like Eden Hazard, that tore the EPL apart year after year, being without a doubt the best in the EPL, but for whatever reason could not do it in the La-Liga. If it had been the other way around, EPL fans would never shut up about it.

    I was thinking of making a video about this on my other channel but you beat me to it.
    Here are some things I found whilst researching the topic and some things that caught my eye whilst watching the video:
    Bayern on average win the league by more points whilst also playing less games (higher amount of games statistically favors better teams).
    I also disagree with the take that they are "36% more dominant" that only works if they also won the same amount of times, which they didn't. You could say, when PSG win they are 36% more dominant in their league, but since Juve has more league titles in the last 10 years than PSG the stat does not work.
    A little bit unfair to PSG to compare total amount of trophies won domestically since they have more trophies available (no Germany does not have a league cup since it was discountinued in 2007 so would not be included in trophies available in the last decade) and again the more games (or in this example competitions) the more on average the bigger teams will win. For context, a better analogy here would be Manchester City (since english teams also have had a league cup, a national cup, supercup and a league) and City have won 15 trophies in the last 10 years. Sure, it's still not 20, but now all of a sudden 20 doesn't look that far away, especially not considering the branding it usually gets as a "farmers league" compared to the Prem.
    Also the timeframe here can bias the outcome of the numbers heavily. In a 10 year time frame, this is what it looks like, but if we look at the top 5 leagues only in the last 5 seasons (not counting this one since most leagues aren't finished yet), then you will find the following facts;
    Ranked teams from amount of league winners: 1. La Liga, 2. Ligue 1 / Premier League, 4. Serie A, 5. Bundesliga
    Average point difference between 1st and 2nd place: 13.4 for the Premier League, 12.8 points for Bundesliga, 10.688 points for Ligue 1, 7 for La Liga and 6.4 points for Serie A
    Competitiveness for the entire league? Let's look at point difference between 1st and last place then, the Prem and Serie A average 72.2 and 70.8 point differentials respectively, with Ligue 1 coming in at 66.4.
    What about midtable? Let's look at points between 4th place and first relegation spot, Ligue 1 ranks the most competitive behind the Bundesliga. (33.8 and 29.8 if you want the numbers), the worst leagues are Serie A and the Prem with 39.2 and 38.4 average point differentials.
    What about number of different teams in the top 4? According to this Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga are the most competitive of the top 5 leagues with 8 teams each getting a top 4 finish in the last 5 seasons, worst is La Liga and the Prem where 5 teams have a stranglehold on the top 4.
    For UCL stats, here are some if you would change the timeframe just slightly (also showing how much this can be used to further your own narrative), here are stats for the past 5 seasons.
    If you remove the most dominant team from each league (Real Madrid, PSG, Bayern, Juve and City), how many teams reach at least the semi-final stage of the UCL in the last 5 years? 1. Premier League (3 teams), 2. Ligue 1 (2 teams) / La Liga (2 teams), 4. Serie A (1 team), 5. Bundesliga (0 teams).
    Number of times teams from each respective top 5 league has reached the semi-final. 1. Premier League (5 times, 2x 20/21, 2x 18/19, 17/18) / La Liga (5 times, 20/21, 18/19, 17/18, 2x 16/17), 3. Ligue 1 (4 times, 20/21, 2x 19/20, 16/17), 4. Bundesliga (2 times, 19/20, 17/18) / Serie A (2 times, 17/18, 16/17).
    Interesting fact here that the only real stat here that Ligue 1 is at the bottom of is wins in the last 5 years, but it's still joint last along with Serie A.
    Brief overview of the same timeframe but the UEL.
    Number of teams in semis. 1. La Liga, 2. Prem, 3. Ligue 1 / Serie A, 4. Bundesliga
    Number of wins. Only spanish and english teams have won, so Ligue 1, Serie A and Bundesliga are joint last.
    Other things I noticed in the video. You talk about a team winning the league early, but what about City last season? Liverpool the season before? City in 17/18? It's not like this is only happening in France or Germany. Whilst you can talk about the point differential being rather low in Serie A it still doesn't tell the entire story. In each of Juve's 9 consecutive league titles, they had the best defence in every single season except the last title, they averaged less than 4 defeats a season over the entire league run (, reached 2 Champions League finals, had an invincible season, set a point record in Serie A and top 3 most goals scored in every single season except the last title. They might not points wise have won the league by a long shot, but they were clearly and by some distance the best team in the league at the time.
    If we're comparing league winners in the past 10 seasons shouldn't it be the same seasons for all leagues? Serie A and the Prem aren't finished yet so this season can not be used to compare. If we look at the past 10 seasons, Ligue 1 has 4 different winners (Montpellier, PSG, Monaco and Lille), Serie A has 2 (Inter and Juve), Bundesliga has 2 (Dortmund and Bayern), La Liga has 3 (Atleti, Real and Barca) and the Prem has 5 (United, City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Leicester) - if you don't wanna count Montpellier because that was before PSG's dominance started then you shouldn't count United or Dortmund either as the respective dominant teams era in their own leagues hadn't begun yet either (City and Bayern).
    Ligue 1 also has a top 4 race that is open not unlike that of La Liga, only 5 points between 3rd and 6th. Saint Etienne, a team that got in the top 4 a few seasons ago, are now battling relegation and are currently in the play-off position, whilst only 5 points seperate 14th to 18th place. So how exactly is La Liga more exciting in that aspect? You also didn't mention that Real Madrid already won La Liga just like how PSG just clinched Ligue 1, the rest that you mentioned about La Liga is essentially mirrored if not even more tightly fought in France.
    Look, I'm not trying to argue that Ligue 1 is a better league - or more exciting - than La Liga but I feel like you still talk down on Ligue 1 and I think it shows how underappreciated the league is.
    Also the Association Coefficient does NOT rank competitiveness within a league, only in European competitions. Cannot stress this enough. I know you didn't directly say this wasn't the case I just wanted to clarify so no one misunderstands that.

    In my opinion a "1 man race" shouldn't be a factor when you call something a "farmers league"
    it should be about the average quality of the teams in that league and that is pretty tricky to measure, the best we can do is look at the average market value per team
    which puts the premier league way ahead, la liga, serie a and bundesliga close and ligue 1 a bit behind

    • @villek3722
      @villek3722 2 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      Market value doesbt necessary matter that much tho. Prem has bigger brand that alone gives prem players higher marketvalue. Some of these values are ridiculous...how can someone like Richarlison be worth 50millions? Or Andre Gomes 20 million? How on earth is Grealish worth 80 million or Sterling 85 millions?! Trust me if there were players with exactly same skill level and age in other leagues they wouldnt be even half that

    • @Felix-oi5qr

    • @omarbabakarkhail
      @omarbabakarkhail 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Market values are heavily inflated in the premier league though. Maguire cost 80 million, Grealish cost more than Ronaldo did going to RMA, Wan Bissaka cost 50 million, whereas someone like Rodri for City cost 60 million. Out of all those players Rodri is the best, but the premium clubs pay for overhyped English players is unreal.

Meanwhile in the Bundesliga Bayern has 31 titles and the team with second most titles is Borussia with 5 which is less than all the French teams I mentioned. Much of it comes down to mid level talent. MLS use to have a top heavy roster with few stars that could compete with MX sides, but doeth of roster was lacking. MLS has spent the last several years tweaking roster rules to allow for more mid level talent. Can be seen in being more competitive in the CL and Seattle winning it all.
      Outside of that I think honestly some clubs in MLS don't put priority on it which may seem mad, but they tend to focus on MLS Cup as that is more in line with traditional American sports thinking on defining success. Raising the awareness and profile of the CL would do a lot to pressure MLS sides to put energy into it. Going back to Seattle they went at it with all they had and had a huge crowd for the final. There's the blueprint, have to see in coming years if others can mimic it.

      @@shakenblake4533 Fans/Club members must own a majority share of each club and be involve in the decisions. Or more effectively, outside entities or investors cannot own more than 49% of the club, which means in a vote, the fan members can hold a majority vote towards decisions concerning how the club is run, meaning no outside investors can effectively "own" the club. Bayer & Wolfsburg are sort of the exception, but even they are prudent in how they operate in the Bundesliga. There is something also to be said about RB Leipzig, but they also have one of the better footballing models of teams with external investor funding.

    Bundesliga in the 2000s was so exciting (though if you look back Bayern still took most wins) Werder, Wolfsburg, Stuttgart, Dortmund all won aswell and Schalke, the HSV, Leverkusen or Kaiserslautern were also participating in this period. Bayern killed all competition since the early 2010s and alot of their athletes were bought from other clubs, like Gomez, Neuer, Lewa or Götze and I probably missed alot more (Hummels was in the 2012 winning BVB team aswell...). It is a valid strategy, but it killed all the fun.
    The worst part is that alot of the clubs continue to give their greatest talents away (today the Premier League is the biggest buyer though). Haaland, Gündogan, Werner, Havertz came from german clubs. Obviously they prefer to play in one of the big EPL clubs and have a chance to actually win the champions league instead of wasting their time chasing second place. I really hope Bayern continues to fail and we finally see a new club lift the trophy next year

    @Tunde....Ballack 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    what does 36% more dominant mean based on a 5 point average difference? How do you calculate that number. There were 1 or 2 things he mentioned that also don't add up, but it's what it is.
    Regarding people calling leagues farmer's league, it is what it is, these people will rarely actually look at comparisons and statistics, all they see is that 1 team dominates the league, so the rest must be farmers which is a very senseless argument to make.
    In the premier league, Manchester United won 13 of the first 21 league trophies, did that make the league a Farmer's league?
    City are in pole position to win the league this year, if they do it, they will have won 4 of the last 5 titles, is the premier league not competitive?
    The "best" league, the EPL did not make a final appearance in the UCL from 2013 - 2017 (5 years) and in the decade past (2010 - 2020) only won the UCL twice, but the way people talked about it, you would think they were in constant domination the last decade.
    We need to be careful when ascribing these insulting terms to entire leagues, what we should ask is how are the other teams in the league performing in continental competitions, and the fact is no-one who draws Leipzig or Dortmund is sure of an easy win, Lyon from time to time make it difficult for their opponents, as do Atalanta and Napoli.
    A lot more complex things go into 1 team dominating a league, PSG is clearly a money thing, Juventus is more a decline of other italian clubs for a while, while Bayern is a mentality thing with the rest of them. Bundesliga teams are super-competitive against each other, but Bayern is quite mighty and ruthless, and you see it in the UCL when teams don't want to draw them, suffering these lashing year on year affect german teams mentality over time regarding bayern, and there is no external money allowed in the Bundesliga, which prevents sugar-daddy owners.
    Finally people say, well why don't these teams win the UCL consistently, but anyone who thinks that has a very poor understanding of how competitions work. League and Cups are very different. Upsets rarely happen in league competitions, because leagues test consistency, and the best teams often wins, but cups on the other hand have a lot more factors in them, as evidenced by Bayern not winning 10 german cups in a row.
