Flake was before Rammsten along with Paul, one of the guitarists in the punk band "Feeling B". The others were in different bands in the GDR. (East Germany). But they all knew each other. Till used to be a drummer in a punk band. After the fall of the iron curtain they formed Rammstein and Paul was keen to have his friend Flake with them. His keyboard is pretty important for the sound of Rammstein. Also, the rather thin and unsportsmanlike Flake contrasted nicely with the muscular Till. So they came up with these little actions between the two on stage. It also works very well and the audience likes it. Till turned 60 yesterday and he is the oldest, the bassist Oliver is the youngest. Flake is a trained concert pianist and a really good musician. He likes the role of the comic character because he can live quite unrecognized in normal life because he looks different on stage.

Flake has always been a band member. Even though he's never confirmed he is one, he has said that there's nothing he wouldn't do for the band. Morgenstern really strikes a chord with me. I have severe psoriasis all over my body including my face. Despite this, I go out, hold my head up high and smile even at those who look disgusted by my appearance. I might not fit the ideal of beauty that people set for themselves but I do try to be a kind and considerate person and I think think that has more value. Beauty fades, kindness doesn't usually.

Flakes parts in that older songs might be not so big but what he does for these songs is very important. Rammstein is not thinkable without Flakes work! :)

Moin moin! The last line is the key... the whole song he sings about "she's ugly" ...but at the end the morningstar would let him see with his ❤ and he get's what he actually really wants, a heart warming breast to lay down...love...peace...and suddenly he recognize "she's such a beauty". Greetings from Germany 😊 luv u2

As far as understanding is concerned, the last sentence brings clarification. "Seeing with the heart, she is beautiful." It is not the externals that are important. The value of a person is not measured by outward appearances.
Till sings of the contradiction between our ideal of beauty and what makes a person. The last sentence is countered by this one: "Man is an eye animal after all, and beautiful things are what I wish for."
"Augentier" (literally translated: "eyesanimal") is an original creation and owed to artistic freedom. Till writes in rhyme.
We grasp the beautiful things with the eyes, but the value of a person with the heart. (translated at Deepl)

Morgenstern is one of the best live performances of the hole band history.
I love the power of this song, the drive, the guitars, bass, drums, piano, lyrics - that's all perfect and shows how talented this band is.

This songs lyrics are based on one of the many poems Till has wrote. Translation of the original poem
    Hasslich- meaning Ugly
Oh, because no one can see
    Under my hideous face
    Beats a beautiful heart
Oh, woe, take my wild fury from
The flesh-sea of my greedy lust
The ship has still not traveled
    Oh God, touch me!
    Spit your heavenly cascade
    Over my enchanted visage
Then for you I would pray
    Oh God, make me beautiful!
I would oil the Bible and lick the flies on the cross
Feasting upon the filth of angels
I would gift my soul to you
For a little grace on my visage
So that I may use it for my lust
So that I may seduce the enchanting
    The lovely nymphs
Who only look upon their equals
Give me this - and forgive me, because
    - I want it all.

The rolling "R", as Till exaggerates it, is not natural in Germany or the German language. In some dialects, perhaps. Also by the fact that Hitler had this rolling "R" (with linguistic aggression and as an Austrian with a dialect), Rammstein was put in the right corner at the beginning. Unjustly, as has since been shown. But self-chosen, because they played with all this symbolism. In the meantime, with the newest album, Lindemann renounces it as far as possible. He sings inzwishcen but also much better.
Even in English-language films, the German Nazis are always depicted with this language.
Rammstein actually have a moderate Berlin or Brandenburg dialect. If you listen to the "Making Offs" of Rammstein, you can hear how soft it actually sounds.
I would be interested if the language of Rammsteon in the Making Off videos really still sounds so hard? From your point of view.

    • @haraldmax9685
      @haraldmax9685 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The rolling "R", as Till uses it, was originally a gag (often used for parody), but when certain circles immediately went crazy about it, he kept it and it almost became a trademark, even if it sounds almost ridiculous to German ears the way Till uses it.
The rolling "R", which we know from sound recordings of the time of the Third Reich, has less to do with Hitler's origin than with the microphone technology of that time. Hitler, like other Nazi greats, took speech lessons for his long-winded speeches, and at that time the emphasis on consonants toward the vowel (analogous to theater), especially the "R", was practiced for a clearly understandable pronunciation reinforced by the sound technology. One will also notice this in a weakened form in the first sound films of the time.

The rolling R is not a german thing. In has been used in the past andstill is in some parts of bavaria, but it is also used in old english and Till is using it to be understood better like they do at the opera.

Interview with Flake Lorenz: "In the beginning, so the legend goes, you didn't want to join Rammstein because the music was too blunt for you".
Flake: "I wouldn't use the word "blunt" today. But it's true: Rammstein's music was alien to me at the beginning. I didn't understand the meaning of those guitar riffs, all the harmonic connections. But I was proud of us, also because I quickly sensed the power and fascination that can lie in this kind of music - and then I also found a place in it. Because to be honest: At the beginning, I didn't know what to play at all."

    MORGENSTERN 🌟
She is ugly that is dreadful
That when she looks at the sky
The light is also fearful that it
Shines onto her face from below
So she has to hide during the day
She doesn't want to scare the light
Lives in the shadows until the glow fades
Sees a star in the twilight
And begs: bring beauty back to my cheeks
    Morning star, oh shine
    On the face of mine
    Throw a warm light
    On my unslightly face
Tell me, I am not alone
    Ugly, you are ugly
    [You, you are ugly]
I went alone to the night
The late birds sang no more
saw children of the sun in the crowd and such
I cried into the starry sky
    Morningstar, oh shine
    onto the beloved of mine
    Cast a warm light
    onto her frightening face
    Tell her she's not alone
    Morningstar, oh shine
    onto the soul of mine
    Cast a warm light
    onto a heart that's breaking
    Tell her that I'm crying
    Because you, you are ugly
    You are simply ugly
Humans are just creatures of the eye
Beautiful things are what I want
But you, you aren't beautiful, no
    Morningstar, oh shine
    onto the beloved of mine
    Cast a warm light
    onto her frightening face
    Tell her she's not alone
And the star wants to shine
    onto the beloved of mine
It warms my breast and shakes
    where life beats
    To see with the heart
    she is simply beautiful

  • @peekaboosue
    @peekaboosue ปีที่แล้ว +2

I think this is about a person with low self esteem/self hate and the pressure that if you don't look a certain way your considered "ugly" or "plain"
when he sings "Humans are just creatures of the eye Beautiful things
are what I want But you, you aren't beautiful...." That shows how we tend to see certain things and other people as more beautiful.
I think this is such a beautiful song because in the end he realizes how beautiful she is.. because in the end when he sings "It warms my breast and shakes where life beats To see with the heart she is simply beautiful" The morning star instead of shining on her, it shines on him where it warms up his heart and feelings so before he only saw her with his eyes but now he sees her with his heart and soul and realizes that she is simply beautiful 😍❤️
