    When the A's move to LV I do hope they do make a soccer stadium for the Oakland Roots. I'm in Sacramento and they made a small stadium for the Republic and it sells out game after game. Seeing how excited fans are for the Roots I hope they can create a small soccer stadium for the team and use the remaining land for something for the people of Oakland.

    The last thing Oakland needs is a Pontiac Silverdome like situation where it just sits as an abandoned relic and eyesore.

      Unfortunately that's the most likely scenario. Knocking it down costs money.

      The A's own 50 percent of the Coliseum. They screwed the county.

      It will be exactly that for 20 years as they try and figure out what to do with the land.

    The Coliseum/city of Oakland is still paying off Mount Davis and since the A’s own that land I doubt they would pay the money to have it demolished

    • @marioscardina-hs7ys
      @marioscardina-hs7ys ปีที่แล้ว

      That land will be for housing.

    • @scotttild
      @scotttild ปีที่แล้ว

      A's don't own the surrounding land its all city owned which is really why they could not develop it in the first place. Also one reason why the Raiders had such a hard time, to some extent. I agree the building will be demo and the city will still be paying off Mount Davis, another reason why the Raiders could not get a deal done. Most likely it will have housing complex of some kind.

    I think they should tear it down and build a minor league ballpark on the same site as the coliseum. A triple A team could move there

  • @seand1011
    @seand1011 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    1:30 - That would have been amazing. A new ballpark for the A's on the same site AND a soccer ground for what is now the Oakland Roots? And Oracle being repurposed as a full time concert hall? DAMN.

    With the Bay area experiencing a massive homelessness issue the A's leaving would be a major opportunity to build all kinds of affordable housing to help curb the homelessness issues. Just my two cents here.

    The rendering of the Coliseum at 0:14 looks like what became of Kezar Stadium after the 49ers left to play at Candlestick Park. It's now repurposed as a high school football field.

    I don't see anything being done with the site for decades, they will just let the coliseum sit. The city and state just don't want to create anything nice. That plot of land is nowhere, no reason to build anything. I see maybe some housing going up since it does have a bart station. But it is in a horrible area.

    Is it a done deal that the A’s are moving to Las Vegas? Sounds like they have resistance from Vegas officials about funding stadium construction. I can’t imagine they would be welcome back in Oakland, unless the owner sells the team. MLB would have to have a contingency plan in place if Oakland decides not to renew the lease on the Oakland Coliseum after the 2024 season. Otherwise, the team will be homeless.

    • @marioscardina-hs7ys

    • @nrkgalt
      @nrkgalt ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marioscardina-hs7ys The A’s have a lease at Oakland Coliseum that runs through the 2024 season. If there is a buyout clause it likely would be in their interest to exercise it. If not it still may be more cost effective to pay the full rent while also leasing a ballpark in Las Vegas, especially if there attendance per game continues to be painfully low. Other teams may subsidize the A’s for this .

    I’m not giving the A’s a pass, as they truly are gaslighting the city of Oakland and its fans. That being said, the city really did miss out on a golden opportunity by not embracing the A’s more. Not saying they had to agree to all the team’s proposals but between developing Howard terminal and the old site, the city missed out on a lot by playing “hardball.”

    Anything built at the current Coliseum site would have to deal with the sea level rise. There would have to be a lot of remediation to make the site flood proof. Of course the media in the bay area doesn't talk about that, because that would bring to light the corruption and incompetence of Oakland government.

    Funny, mentioning that you'd never seen soccer in the Coliseum... One of its early tenants was a pro soccer team. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oakland_Clippers
    And, no, I'm not stumping for soccer (the worst sport ever invented, actually). But I was a kid then, and the family went to a few games (as opposed to an afternoon nap, I suppose).
    The only thing I really remember was the P.A. announcer, every few minutes trying to pump up the crowd with... "Soccer TO me!". Lameness personified.
