I decided not to use ANY screens for half a day a week lately. It's quite amazing how much more you get done. I hope to expand that to more moments during the week!
My theory about needing sound and stimulation to do tasks is that nature isn't silent. Nature is already stimulating but we're not connected to that as much when we're in houses for example. Plus the addition of being social creatures and liking to do things together instead of alone.
they have have study noise thats just "nature" sounds like air and water moving. really depends where you are, because some places are more quite then others, some even pretty silent. i just use music because it helps block intrusive thoughts
Found it kind of funny that you said you were proud of folks making it through the video without heading off elsewhere, and I'm sitting here like "bring on another couple hours, let's really dig into this on a molecular level". I love longform video essays and stuff of that nature. I'm definitely not immune from liking some shortform stuff but I always feel like trash after about 2 minutes of it. On the flipside, I'll gladly get a campfire going, get my camp chair, and tend to that for several hours with my phone left inside if I don't have housework or job work to do. It also intrigues me when my wife and I go out to a dinner date or whatever and we can have a discussion for a half hour, and we will look around occasionally and notice that we are likely the only couple actually talking without phones out.
Love you man. This video helped me realize I need to lock in on my dream of being a personal trainer. That activity you talk about that others find extremely hard but I’m able to do effortlessly is fitness for me. I need to make my dreams a reality.
I wouldn't say I like scrolling, but I avoid it. I like how you see things. It makes me feel seen when everyone I know seems addicted to their phones in an almost zombified state. Thank you.
really good video, really helps summarize everything into quick bullet points and suggestions, and instead of saying the copy and paste “just remove and remove social media” which the people who say that don’t even do, you actually give advice and instructions on how to do the thing you’re telling us to do rather than to just say to do something and not explain how to do it

My favorite video in a long time. Fantastic advice. Thank you so much for this. It's the wake up call I need. I have learned some of these skills permanently, like going easy on myself (that used to be a HUGE struggle), but awareness is ALWAYS the key, and it's always what slips away from me as I slip into my bad habits. Who knows how long I'll be off the brainrot wagon this time, but I wouldn't have been off it at all this time if it wasn't for you. I appreciate you trying to help us. A lot of what you said resonated with me greatly. ESPECIALLY the pulling out my phone when I have to do something I don't really want to do. I'm a huge offender of always having a podcast on while doing the dishes, bringing my phone to the bathroom, I even fall asleep listening to let's plays. It's a PROBLEM, and I need to admit it to myself. Thank you for helping me do that. One question on 8:10 though: I like learning piano, video editing, having deep conversations, playing volleyball, but... nobody watches my videos or listens to me play piano, etc.. My job, while I don't hate it, is very boring and doesn't bring anyone joy (I manage a legal contracts database). I don't feel like I'm "giving to the world". I'm not too upset about this, I don't need to be famous or anything, but I don't know if I have found that "giving to the world" activity yet. I'm wondering how I can find that. I've been searching for a while. Just wondering if you (or anyone else in the comments) has any thoughts on my predicament that they'd like to share.
This was very insightful and very useful for a lot of us. That quote “instead of trying to beat a bad habit, you need to change your life, then bad habits will naturally go” is golden information.
Thank you Cole for these videos. I've been into personal development for years now and highly agree with what you suggest in your videos. I also still learn a lot from them! It is quite a lonely journey, I'm sure you understand what I mean by that. Greetings and thank you for everything! ❤🥰

Like some of my feed make me laugh or inspired. And i know how to control my dose of the.. brain rot.
I couldn't get through the end. I find quick edits too distracting. I'm from Gen X, yeah an older guy from the forgotten generation. I don't get boomers and I don't get subsequent generations either. The world that subsequent generations think that kids from the 80s and 90s lived in is not accurate. It is a caricature of what you think it was. It's kind of sad but here is life in a nutshell. If you come from a relatively good family with no major issues then you likely had a good life in America until somewhere in the age of around 14 -24. During somewhere in those years realize that your parents have done their best to shield real life from you. Long about the time you figure it out you realize that life is basically working, paying bills, then working and paying bills, then working and paying bills. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer, and the middle-class gets up every morning to do something (usually a job) to get money to pay the bills. Some people have kids and the illusion cycle continues. And....most importantly....this is a beautiful wonderful cycle and don't you forget it subsequent generation boy!
I usually try to ignore shorts on youtube, actively pressing 'ignore' on them so they disappear from start screen (however, they always reappear, so you have to keep repeating that action from time to time, damn you YT! 😤😤), and I haven't used TikTok thus far. Pretty darn proud about it! 😁
And turn off recommendations, use browser add-ons like unhook and sponsor block and for mobile devices use the browser brave and in the settings you can turn it off
Let me know if you made it to the end.

Solution: Don’t procrastinate by watching this video; instead, go touch grass.
This is my favorite comment as I’m playing with a funny hilarious kitten

I usually try to ignore shorts on youtube, actively pressing 'ignore' on them so they disappear from start screen (however, they always reappear, so you have to keep repeating that action from time to time, damn you YT! 😤😤), and I haven't used TikTok thus far.
Pretty darn proud about it! 😁
Nicely done
It's so annoying how you can't disable shorts on TH-cam. I've searched everywhere.
turn off your search history
I'm pretty sure there's a short out there for that. Keep looking you'll find it😂❤
And turn off recommendations, use browser add-ons like unhook and sponsor block and for mobile devices use the browser brave and in the settings you can turn it off
Revanced
The trick is to say not interested in every single short, after about 20 or 30 they won't show up in your feed anymore
