For over 15 years I worked in various environmental chemistry labs. My work clothes would easily be less than chic, so I automatically would wear those clothes to do any kind of "dirty work". I have left the lab world and stay at home now. Since my return to home I find myself looking at cuter tees and shirts at the store, I've started wearing my earrings again and a simple necklace on occasion. It really does do something mentally to simply feel put together. I own a Jeep so doing my hair is a joke, ponytail it is on most days. My husband of 24 years tells me all of the time how beautiful I am without makeup so I don't wear any 😉. It's funny how I'm now in my 40's and am just starting to find my style and not have it dictated by my job.

I remember back to when our daughter was a teenager, (she was the last child after having 3 boys, and I was always a stay at home mom), it always seemed as though she would always catch me off guard with situations when I wasn't showered, dressed, and ready for the day. Like she could tell at some level, (even though probably not consciously), that I was more vulnerable and she would be able to get her way more if I didn't have myself put together and ready to be her parent. When I realized that, at times, I would have to stop her, mid request/argument, and say, "wait. I need sometime to shower, and get dressed. Then you can ask me." It made a HUGE difference in how I was able to handle whatever she had to give or request from me. I love your channel. Love your video's. I’ve themed my farm house with my bird collection, Norman Rockwell plates,my waterfall mural I painted on my staircase, my country scene paintings and my country fairy house I made with rocks and dried moss on a old dresser. Wrought iron pieces forged by my husband. Handmade furniture he built and many antiques . Antique bowls and glass jars compliment my kitchen My curtains are hand painted by myself along with valances in some rooms I painted birds on. We live in a valley with hills around us. Pine trees are everywhere and not far away with water falls so nature is a everyday thing here.

This video has my heart. One of the sweetest joys I have started carrying with me through homemaking and now as a beginner homesteader is the smaller moments. Because those smaller moments create a huge impact on our environment and foundation later. Your style of gardening is how my mom loves gardening. We have a lot of European history in my family and I love incorporating little sprinkles of “time” that tell a story in my home. I see you do the same and it makes me so happy. We pull out my grandmothers China for hot cocoa and I have learned to use them and enjoy those old homemade table cloths my great grandmother made. They have paint stains from the kids art but they are well loved and enjoyed. All about perspective. 💞

I just found your channel and have been making my way through all the episodes. So far this one is my favorite because you address what inspires me most about you. You have such an intent for beauty among the practical and dirty process of farming. The makeup, the flowers, the home decor. Dressing up does indeed change the energy of what you're doing and who you're with and I've never taken the time or effort to do that for myself and my loved ones. Yasss! Nine months pregnant and switched to boots and dresses to get chores done comfortably since even maternity jeans are no go now. Never going back for summer wear. I found you channel through your lavender. It is my favorite! I sold my home with gardens, but missed my lavender that made it through WI winters each year. Every year since I buy a plant or two and pop it in a pot to keep by my front door. I remember harvesting and drying it too. I used most of my dried lavender flowers to mix into rice in a sensory table when I was teaching preschool. Even the teachers loved the calming scent. Enjoy all those little things. My adult children and teens will never forget our sixteen years of homeschooling and being able to walk out the door to pick flowers, berries, veggies, herbs, apples, peaches, and cherries. My MIL taught me to wear and old swim suite and a pair of shorts when playing in the garden. It helps in the Texas heat to be able to turn the hose on myself to cool off. Once I am done playing I head into the house for a shower then a dress. :-) Thank you for sharing your channel and life, my hubby even enjoys watching with me.

I sit and watch your videos tell a different yet heartwarming story of living on a homestead. If I had had the presence of mind to start something like this when I was younger it would have been a small paradise for me. I love everything about farming, gardening, etc. At 72 years of age, I have a meager but wonderful vegetable garden on my 24ft. balcony. My son takes me to the farmers market and I get fresh produce for canning meals and fruits for the winter when I can't get out in the harsh weather to grocery shop; or I don't want to leave my apartment. Keep the videos coming. . . I LOVE THEM!!!!
I've been following for a while now but never commented. Having moved from Oregon and settled in Ohio this previous year, it's been hard. Not only are we are starting from scratch on our property but we find that we long so much longing for the PNW. Watching your videos helps bring familiarity to my heart. The truth of function needing to meet beauty is so difficult when you are starting from scratch. We have been focusing so intensely on the outdoor infrastructure & food production that the inside spaces truly became neglected. You could feel the attitude shift, stress levels increasing, the lack of desire to be in the space, even my desire to put an effort into cooking/baking suffered because I just didn't want to be in the chaos of it all. we took some intentionality time and did a solid cleaning, got some new indoor plants, finally accomplished some of those "checklist" projects like putting up new curtains, and added a couple vases of wildflowers. It's sprung to life a new spirit to our space entirely. Then last week we made a sitting area in the shade with a little pond in our creek and got Lilly pads and goldfish. It brings nothing but beauty and joy for us and the kids... we also bought gnomes for the kids to place throughout the food forest with. It's silly and exciting and really makes the outdoor space feel so much brighter! I hope we always remember to keep this balance.
It is so hard to start over. I've told Stu if we HAD to start again, I think I'd get a city apartment somewhere in Europe. Ha! It takes so much! Practical first: beauty as you can. Blessings on your new adventures!

Yes she can!!! I have my beautiful full brim hat for shade. My maxi dress and garden boots. And when family and friends come over to see me , they always find me in the garden. I wear my big black sunglasses and my favorite lipstick....my grown up children know I do all the work in my garden, but others always ask who does your garden? Lol........

Have been a follower for a long time! Shaye, reading your story is a lot like reading my own! I grew up in Philadelphia, PA and never thought I would want a small homestead to call my own. Here I am at almost middle age and we have this amazing little farm, homeschooled kiddos, beautiful gardens (although NOT EVEN CLOSE TO YOURS .......... yet!, and a life that I absolutely adore! Thank you for ALL of your beauty and sharing and helping to make those of us who didn't grow up in this crazy farm and homestead life feel that we can do this! :)

But you have figured out how to let life flow. Perhaps there is a reason we need to stop and eat three times a day and enjoy a snack or a drink. My grandma lived in no ac in Texas and in warm/hot weather gardened, canned, cleaned, sewed etc from pre dawn on. But when it hit 3pm, without a word she headed to the bathtub. She then applied her makeup (powder, rouge and lipstick) and a fresh dress (which she'd wear till bath time tomorrow). When Granddaddy rolled in from his newspaper job hot and tired, she greeted him with a hug and kiss, cool beverage and snack. They sat to visit and cherish each other.
The natural way you both move about the farm, move about the house, enjoy the life, the children and all you have built/are building so young, It is beautiful. Your family is what the American dream was, and should be still.. Your kitchen, the food you prepare, the dining room table, the spaces, so warm, cozy and beautiful colors. . Even though it is hard work, it is meaningful work, lives lived to the fullest. Wear the lipstick, the lashes, the skirts... You always look beautiful and smartly put together. I too wear light makeup, and feminine clothing when I work in my garden, yard and even at my cabin because that's just me. I also love eyelashes that are applied and maintained about every three weeks. I'm definitely not afraid to get dirty & work hard but I still want to look presentable even if I don't see a single sole other than my sweet hubby though he tells me I'm beautiful with or without makeup (I love him for that and a million other reasons).

When I first started watching your channel it was your newer videos where your hair is blond. I just wanted to say that rarely when a woman changes her hair color does it actually suit her. You are an exception to that rule ! As a blond you look like a movie star! It brings our all of your features so beautifully and gives you such a chic and elegant appearance. Yes a farmer can be glamorous...lovely that you feel that way. I am 70 years old and have always taken care of my appearance and my husband has always appreciated it. There are far too many sloppy women around...especially young women. Its such a shame because youthfulness only happens once. I grew up in the same way you are it's a privileged lifestyle..taking care of pretty decor indoors is also so gorgeous.Children respond well to it. It's a good life lesson for them. Hope you stay safe, Maureen. My husband grew up in South Africa around Johannesburg and we are very worried for the family and friends that he still has there. I sincerely hope that God keeps you safe. On a different note regarding appearance, I feel like makeup is more of a mask and there are so many women and girls who look so pretty on the outside but they are rotten on the inside. And although I don't think that I am like that I do worry about that. I do feel the most pretty when I have some makeup on to cover my rosacea and when I'm wearing my lovely 1950s style lemon dress. However I haven't been taking care of my outward appearance in this way much at all recently. Part of me just says it's because I'm low maintenance, but I think you're right and I am being sloppy. I try not to use too much makeup but because I have so many spots and blemishes on my face right now from the rosacea I really do look like a different person when I put makeup on. But I do think that it is important for women to feel beautiful on the inside and out and we need to take care of our outward appearance almost as much as our character. We live in a valley with hills around us. Pine trees are everywhere and not far away with water falls so nature is a everyday thing here.

This video has my heart. One of the sweetest joys I have started carrying with me through homemaking and now as a beginner homesteader is the smaller moments. Because those smaller moments create a huge impact on our environment and foundation later. Your style of gardening is how my mom loves gardening. We have a lot of European history in my family and I love incorporating little sprinkles of “time” that tell a story in my home. I see you do the same and it makes me so happy. We pull out my grandmothers China for hot cocoa and I have learned to use them and enjoy those old homemade table cloths my great grandmother made. They have paint stains from the kids art but they are well loved and enjoyed. All about perspective. 💞

I just found your channel and have been making my way through all the episodes. So far this one is my favorite because you address what inspires me most about you. You have such an intent for beauty among the practical and dirty process of farming. The makeup, the flowers, the home decor. Dressing up does indeed change the energy of what you're doing and who you're with and I've never taken the time or effort to do that for myself and my loved ones. Yasss! Nine months pregnant and switched to boots and dresses to get chores done comfortably since even maternity jeans are no go now. Never going back for summer wear. Hubster says I look like a glamorous farmer from the 1930s. Love it! Chanel says " Its polite to others to put yourself together everyday" Words to live by! You can farm AND be feminine!

I found you channel through your lavender. It is my favorite! I sold my home with gardens, but missed my lavender that made it through WI winters each year. Every year since I buy a plant or two and pop it in a pot to keep by my front door. I remember harvesting and drying it too. I used most of my dried lavender flowers to mix into rice in a sensory table when I was teaching preschool. Even the teachers loved the calming scent. Enjoy all those little things. My adult children and teens will never forget our sixteen years of homeschooling and being able to walk out the door to pick flowers, berries, veggies, herbs, apples, peaches, and cherries. My MIL taught me to wear and old swim suite and a pair of shorts when playing in the garden. It helps in the Texas heat to be able to turn the hose on myself to cool off. Once I am done playing I head into the house for a shower then a dress. :-) Thank you for sharing your channel and life, my hubby even enjoys watching with me.
I love your stories and your relationship and your homestead. It's heartwarming, comforting and so relaxing. I sit and watch your videos tell a different yet heartwarming story of living on a homestead. If I had had the presence of mind to start something like this when I was younger it would have been a small paradise for me. I love everything about farming, gardening, etc. At 72 years of age, I have a meager but wonderful vegetable garden on my 24ft. balcony. My son takes me to the farmers market and I get fresh produce for canning meals and fruits for the winter when I can't get out in the harsh weather to grocery shop; or I don't want to leave my apartment. Keep the videos coming. . . I LOVE THEM!!!!

I've been following for a while now but never commented. Having moved from Oregon and settled in Ohio this previous year, it's been hard. Not only are we are starting from scratch on our property but we find that we long so much longing for the PNW. Watching your videos helps bring familiarity to my heart. The truth of function needing to meet beauty is so difficult when you are starting from scratch. We have been focusing so intensely on the outdoor infrastructure & food production that the inside spaces truly became neglected. You could feel the attitude shift, stress levels increasing, the lack of desire to be in the space, even my desire to put an effort into cooking/baking suffered because I just didn't want to be in the chaos of it all. we took some intentionality time and did a solid cleaning, got some new indoor plants, finally accomplished some of those "checklist" projects like putting up new curtains, and added a couple vases of wildflowers. It's sprung to life a new spirit to our space entirely. Then last week we made a sitting area in the shade with a little pond in our creek and got Lilly pads and goldfish. It brings nothing but beauty and joy for us and the kids... we also bought gnomes for the kids to place throughout the food forest with. It's silly and exciting and really makes the outdoor space feel so much brighter! I hope we always remember to keep this balance.
It sounds like the sitting area by the pond would be a lovely place to relax and have a few picnics this summer.. ❤
It is so hard to start over. I've told Stu if we HAD to start again, I think I'd get a city apartment somewhere in Europe. Ha! It takes so much! Practical first: beauty as you can. Blessings on your new adventures!
You inspire me so much. You have such talents you blow me away. Never did I want to learn how to cook or garden till I started watching your channel. What you want your guests to feel when they come into your home you already show even through your videos. Love to watch all the meals you cook and your beautiful gardens. Yes she can!!! I have my beautiful full brim hat for shade. My maxi dress and garden boots. And when family and friends come over to see me , they always find me in the garden. I wear my big black sunglasses and my favorite lipstick....my grown up children know I do all the work in my garden, but others always ask who does your garden? Lol........

Have been a follower for a long time! Shaye, reading your story is a lot like reading my own! I grew up in Philadelphia, PA and never thought I would want a small homestead to call my own. Here I am at almost middle age and we have this amazing little farm, homeschooled kiddos, beautiful gardens (although NOT EVEN CLOSE TO YOURS .......... yet!, and a life that I absolutely adore! Thank you for ALL of your beauty and sharing and helping to make those of us who didn't grow up in this crazy farm and homestead life feel that we can do this! :)

This is my favorite video. I enjoy the conversation and of course the incredible chemistry between the two of you. We tend to strive for perfection that does not exist. But you have figured out how to let life flow. Perhaps there is a reason we need to stop and eat three times a day and enjoy a snack or a drink. I love wearing dresses, putting on some makeup, and flowers too.
My grandma lived in no ac in Texas and in warm/hot weather gardened, canned, cleaned, sewed etc from pre dawn on. But when it hit 3pm, without a word she headed to the bathtub. She then applied her makeup (powder, rouge and lipstick) and a fresh dress (which she'd wear till bath time tomorrow). When Granddaddy rolled in from his newspaper job hot and tired, she greeted him with a hug and kiss, cool beverage and snack. They sat to visit and cherish each other.
The natural way you both move about the farm, move about the house, enjoy the life, the children and all you have built/are building so young, It is beautiful. Your family is what the American dream was, and should be still..
Your kitchen, the food you prepare, the dining room table, the spaces, so warm, cozy and beautiful colors. . Even though it is hard work, it is meaningful work, lives lived to the fullest. I think we all need to feel good however that occurs. For me it is barefoot and grandma dresses. I am 68. I was pretty in my young days but I am happy being fat and round and barefooted now.

You always look beautiful and smartly put together. I too wear light makeup, and feminine clothing when I work in my garden, yard and even at my cabin because that's just me. I also love eyelashes that are applied and maintained about every three weeks. I'm definitely not afraid to get dirty & work hard but I still want to look presentable even if I don't see a single sole other than my sweet hubby though he tells me I'm beautiful with or without makeup (I love him for that and a million other reasons).

Hi, I'm enjoying some of your older videos ! When you are talking about how you present yourself to the world I agree with your sentiment. The Bible actuallys tells us to present ourselves well. When I first started watching your channel it was your newer videos where your hair is blond. I just wanted to say that rarely when a woman changes her hair color does it actually suit her. You are an exception to that rule ! As a blond you look like a movie star! It brings our all of your features so beautifully and gives you such a chic and elegant appearance. Yes a farmer can be glamorous...lovely that you feel that way. I am 70 years old and have always taken care of my appearance and my husband has always appreciated it. There are far too many sloppy women around...especially young women. Its such a shame because youthfulness only happens once. I grew up in the same way you are it's a privileged lifestyle..taking care of pretty decor indoors is also so gorgeous.Children respond well to it. It's a good life lesson for them. Hope you stay safe, Maureen. My husband grew up in South Africa around Johannesburg and we are very worried for the family and friends that he still has there. I sincerely hope that God keeps you safe. On a different note regarding appearance, I feel like makeup is more of a mask and there are so many women and girls who look so pretty on the outside but they are rotten on the inside. And although I don't think that I am like that I do worry about that. I do feel the most pretty when I have some makeup on to cover my rosacea and when I'm wearing my lovely 1950s style lemon dress. However I haven't been taking care of my outward appearance in this way much at all recently. Part of me just says it's because I'm low maintenance, but I think you're right and I am being sloppy. I try not to use too much makeup but because I have so many spots and blemishes on my face right now from the rosacea I really do look like a different person when I put makeup on. But I do think that it is important for women to feel beautiful on the inside and out and we need to take care of our outward appearance almost as much as our character. Thank you for your comment, even though it wasn't directed at me, it made me stop and re-evaluate and be honest with myself. Who says we can't be hearty and beautiful women?! :) Love from NH USA.
