    Do your kids have a tree house back in that forest? When we moved into our house, that's one of the first things our son wanted. Instead, he got a clubhouse that lasted until we had a microburst that knocked an old elm tree over that took out the clubhouse - right down the middle. smile! We made the headlines in our town's newspaper! Our street looked like a war zone, but I thank God that He protected our house and my husband who was at home at the time. If the elm tree had come down in a different direction, he might have been hurt. I have that round griddle too - it's made many a grilled cheese sandwhich.

    I used to dig up wild garlic in the forest of Quebec. I think the limit was 25per persons. The taste was divine. I didn't plant as much this much here in Virginia Beach this year. Far to much going on. So I'll just visit often our farmers market often. But I do have my flowering gardens to attend to. Love and adore your family.

      What have you got to lose, really? Just make sure you do a little research where to plant in your garden & what roses grow well in your area , giving plenty of time to learn to build your soil up, use compost as Angela mentioned. So you would do well to learn to make compost for your garden as a practice but maybe buy some in the meantime to get started when u can by ur weather. Make sure there is room for the roots because they grow like a tree with lots of roots reaching out. But you can as u saw here plant above the roses while the roses take root & begin to grow out. Really take time to learn what roses grow well in your area, like local Botanical gardens & are resistant to the pests that also live in that area, bc that will bring success. Roses need water & the other things Angela said on this video, like the fungus as one thing.

    My husband and I love to garden here in western Iowa. We have had a compost pile for years and the plants love the soil; egg shells, coffee grounds, vegetables and fruit peels, some shredded paper, layer of leaves. Let it cook all winter. My husband made a long frame, attached a screen to one side, then I lay it across our wheel barrow, he dumps a pile of compost on it, I rake it back & forth and what drops through is the most beautiful black soil. The bigger pieces still on top of the screen get dumped back into the compost pile. Works great. It will usually make about two garbage cans of soil. I love France too. My daughter and family lived outside Paris in the area of Croissey. We had fun exploring Paris many times. Visited Monet's glorious gardens, Versailles, and the Loire Valley. A gardener's paradise. They lived in England for sixteen years too. Their gardens are the best. Thank you so much for your videos. I love the area you live in. My husband took me to Door County for an anniversary. Such a pretty area. I'd love to go back, especially with a group of ladies with all the shops.

    • @ParisienneFarmgirl
      @ParisienneFarmgirl  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much for sharing all that! I LOVE compost. :) . It fascinates me and I'll be doing an entire video on it next month. Would you believe in all my time in France I never went to Giverny? That should be a crime. I'm so ashamed. It just never worked out. During my long stay I wasn't really there for gardening season and so I chose Mt. Saint Michel instead. It was amazing and I had the entire island to myself. Stayed in a hotel room built into a stone wall. Priceless memories. - Door County IS amazing. It was here, or France, but I didn't think France would be the best place to raise the kids the way I wanted to.

    I watch your videos with a smile on my face-and often with tears in my eyes. Your family is so dear and beautiful!! Will each year be this much work or is it because you’re starting from scratch to build this potager? We’ve just bought our retirement home in Kingman, Arizona, and I’m really loving the desert/xeriscape landscaping I’ve been seeing on Pinterest and other online sites, but it’s totally out of my comfort zone-I was born and raised in central Arkansas, and my married life has been all over the US but never further west of the Mississippi River than western Louisiana and St Louis. We’ve been in Pennsylvania since 2010 and have also lived in Germany, too. I know I’m going to desperately miss all the trees and other green plants that have been around me all my life. I know I could use our well water to create the landscapes I love, but I want to learn to embrace this new period and look of our time together (and not use water just for selfish reasons). I will miss my peonies, though, and hope the people that come to live on our little acre take care of them!! We will have seven acres at our new place, and the previous owners have had horses, so the two stalls really need some goats, don’t you think? ❤️😘

    • @ParisienneFarmgirl
      @ParisienneFarmgirl  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That WOULD be a huge change! Good for you for adapting. Thankfully, each year won't be this difficult. But it's just the two of us and no machinery and it's still pretty rough out there because it was the edge of the forest.

      R Neustel, first , it's really a privilege to live in such beautiful deserts as Arizona has, their are different types. You can learn about desert plants that grow in your area. You can visit the Desert Botanical Gardens in the Phoenix area to learn what they can look like in a garden. And I bet there are places on line you can learn about this. Also don't be intimidated to plant some indigenous trees which take a few years to grow for starters, like Palo Verde, Mesquite & even Pecan! You can also learn about Permaculture gardening so you may very well become a master of growing Peonies there! When you build the soil up underneath the plants it starts a network of life & nutrients that will feed what grows on top of it. Just patiently work on building your soil underneath & learn about making compost, that will need some water to keep moist bc it's so arid there. If you build up soil up & use many of the native flowers but for the ones that require more moisture you can learn about how, with dappled tree shade areas, northern exposure & good soil development with mulching to hold the moisture in the ground you will have some of your favorites in your garden. I suggest you get it going right away bc you want to get the trees going. You can also grow many herbs like rosemary, thyme, oregano even basil. There are places around the world like Sicily & South Africa for example, that you can learn about how they grow in arid climates with minimal water.

    You could plant enough peppers & tomatoes seeds in your greenhouse for starts, that if a frost comes you can replant 2 times if necessary. Think it's not that much more work or cost, & then it's not such a gamble bc you have that "insurance". Wanna try it?

    You only get to below 10?! We have al l Jan and Feb with below zero and highs below 10. I feel l like that about Anne of Green Gables. The music, the scenes, it's a part of my soul. I couldn't get into Amelie because of the sexual stuff. Your potager is going to be amazing!

      We for sure queue up certain parts of the movie. Ack. Do you have the Landscapes of Anne book... that's not the correct title but Google it, I think you'd LOVE IT!
