- Great Western Air Ambulance Charity’s (GWAAC) Critical Care Team was called to a horrific head-on road traffic collision in Cirencester in Gloucestershire.
Specialist Paramedic Pete described their patient, Simon, as “one of the most broken people I've ever seen.” His devastating traumatic injuries meant the GWAAC crew needed to perform surgery on the roadside, give multiple blood transfusions, and take over his breathing.
Watch this video to learn how the skills and quick decision-making of the GWAAC Critical Care Team including paramedics and a doctor gave Simon a chance at life. The crew got Simon to hospital alive, and with a fighting chance of survival.
Great Western Air Ambulance Charity attends the most critical incidents not just by our green and blue helicopter, but also by critical care car, serving 2.1 million people across the region of Gloucestershire, South Gloucestershire, Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset, and parts of Wiltshire. GWAAC’s Critical Care Team consists of a highly trained and experienced Pilot, a Specialist Paramedic in Critical Care, and a Critical Care Doctor.
Each mission costs on average over £2,000, the crew gets called out more than five times a day and the charity need to raise over £4 million each year.
Although GWAAC is part of the regional 999 response service and works closely with NHS hospitals, it is a charity entirely funded by local people just like you. Thanks to your generosity GWAAC’s crew not only save lives, they also improve patient outcomes.
GWAAC was there for Simon, will you help them be there for the next person in urgent need of lifesaving care?

Why doesn’t the government support this service? That’s insane.
Because the system is broken.
Why don't more billionaires donate or the Royal family for that matter ? Ton's of people out their are sitting on Billions yet keep it to themselves. Greed I guess. The world certainly would be a better place. Taxpayers are burdened enough.
Capitalism.
No Air Ambulance Service should ever need to rely on public donations. They should get anything they need from the government. (Without ANY involvement in how the service is run.)
Scotland has two government funded air ambulances and two fixed wing aircraft for transfering sick or injured patients from rural hospitals to the specialist ones so we are very fortunate for that. It also now has two charity funded air ambulances which were started up by a wealthy businessman to help the Scottish Ambulance Service.
@@shaunflanagan8735Scotland does seem to be streets ahead when it comes to health and social care. At least that was my experience when my mum was living in Scotland and had to use these services. Well done Scotland ❤
@@stelladowsett7151 We've got the Scottish government to thank for the two funded aeroplanes (based at Aberdeen and Glasgow airports) and air ambulances - call signs Helimed 2, based at Inverness Airport and and Helimed 5,Based at Glasgow airport. The two charity ones are based at Perth airport (call sign Helimed 76) and Aberdeen
(call sign Helimed 79) This service is known as SCOTSTAR and is mobilised by a special operations desk based at the Scottish ambulance services's west of Scotland control centre in Glasgow. The helicopters usually have two paramedics or a trauma doctor and paramedic or critical care paramedic on board.
HM Coastguard also assist with air transport to hospitals from remote areas as well if required. So I am very proud of the service we have here and hope that I never need it and also hope that my any of my family or friends never need any help from the service. However should I or anyone I know require this service then I would take comfort knowing that they would give great care and comfort and make a horrible situation a little bit easier to cope with.
It's not even that expensive relatively speaking. (I mean it is but you know, not like 100s of millions)
You are lucky in Britain, try to get help in the US without expensive health insurance that will deny your claim. Medical bankruptcy is rampant in the US.
Its disgusting that these amazing people and services receive no government funding and have to rely on donations from the public to keep air ambulances across the country in service, yet the government of this once great nation can send billions of pounds in aid and arms to countries that clearly dont need it.
Amazing work by air ambulance services across the whole of the UK
Any one of us may need this amazing service at any time for ourselves or a loved one. We all need to support them and hope they we never need them. Keep up the good work
Most of the fire departments and emergency medical services in rural areas and small towns in the USA are manned by volunteers and supported through fund raisers. Then again, we have a healthcare for profit system for the most part.
You have my utmost respect for all you do.
HOW DID THIS GUY SURVIVE?! Major respect to these folks from the USA.
These folks are in the UK and at the top of their field.
@@klc4023 I know they're in the UK. I was sending my respect from where I am, which is the USA.
I've always believed that the Air ambulance service should be funded fully by the government, as should the RNLI. I also believe that if the British tax payer was knowingly taxed an extra pound per year to fund these vital life saving services, they would be happy to do so.
I’m in awe too of what clinicians across the country do. Great story GWAAC 👏👏.
As with the STARS Air Ambulance here in Saskatchewan, Canada, you people are heroes beyond compare!! Thank you for your service, and God Bless
These guys are angels.
I just donated £10. Thank you for everything you do.
Thank you so, so much. Your support is why we can do what we do.
I made an online donation to an air rescue team in memory of a loved one last year. Unfortunately, it cost a lot just to do that. I don't even know why.
Maybe ask the lottery or governnent for help. I think lifeboats depend on charity, too.
Keep on, keeping on Simon.❤
Its absolutely disgusting that these amazing people and charities have to rely on public donations to carry out these vital services yet they can send hundreds of millions of pounds in aid and weapons to countries that clearly dont need it.
Amazing work by these amazing people❤
Wow! What an absolutely fantastic story! I’m flabbergasted! Love to you all…. ❤
Thank you for your lovely words
I’m Simon I should be dead but I’m still alive with a massive chuckle.. 👍
Quite an indictment that this has to be a charity, reliant on donations. Not even a lottery proceeds recipient. For shame.
Wow God bless you Simon!🙏
THIS GROUP REALLY DESERVES HELP
Wow, what an amazing story! Simon is amazing, as are GWAAC!🙌🏼
HEROES !!!
Great story! So skilled and mentally strong!
If every household throughout the UK had an annual ambulance levy eg £20 as part of their council tax this would help pay for these vital services.
Bear in mind this service runs completely on donations
No cheese roll !!!
How much does the government spend on New Years Eve Fireworks? Hmmm.
Perhaps if I give this a like I will get a more positive feed
theres god .....then theres these people❤
No mention of the other victim? 😥 Well done to the paramedics 🇿🇦
They may not know the outcome or didn't get permission.
No money for our air ambulance services but unlimited money for immigrants, sick beyond belief.
