  • There are many reasons for an engine to overheat, including faulty thermostat, blocked radiator, loose fan belt, blown head gasket or a myriad of other reasons.
Have you checked your water pump - not just for a noisy bearing or the mechanical seal leaking, but also testing the impeller integrity? How do we do that without x-ray vision?
Here is a simple test to prove that the water pump is working correctly and circulating the coolant efficiently.

Can't really take the credit. One of the other TaT guys wrote an article on how to do it ages ago, but I thought it would be good to see it in a video. It's a great test and easy to do.

Good day mate, ive hot a 2015 jeep compass that had a problem that started with radiator and progressed from there leading me to the water pump which led me to a discovery of a fix called gasoline, a match, and 1 simple promise made that if I ever meet a jeep engineer im gonna engineer a ass kicking of a lifetime

Hi MM, never tested it that way good idea. You want to be sure its the pump, especially with timing belt driven pumps its a rabbit hole you dont want to venture unless you are 100% . cheers

      Hey ltkaffey,
You are right, manufacturers love to hide the water pumps behind belts and heaps of other components.
I can't take all the credit, I saw it in one of our TaT magazines, but thought it would be good to show it practically in a video.
      Thanks for your comments. 😉

Any reference for the pressure gauge?

I just used a pressure gauge that we had spare. Anything that will fit and read for convenience will suit.

At least it's a good test subject for the apprentices. It still starts and runs. What more could you want? 😁
