    They were building that gondola when I was last in Zermatt Jan 2018. Yearning to go back, just deciding whether I’m brave enough to go alone. Thanks for your videos. Really enjoying them.

      OK, I think I was last there Dec 2017 and left on New Year's Day, 2018, when lots of snow fell and people were stuck, no way out except helicopter. I'll be back later in the season when it's all open...

    Your previous comment to me about the Swiss Alps being stunning anywhere you look appears to be spot on. The previous videos I have watched that showed the beautiful glacier views was (literally by your caption) breathtaking. Photography and skiing are my main passion.
    Are there any particular Swiss/Austrian resorts you would recommend to an average intermediate, aging fossil like myself who has never been to Switzerland or Austria?
    I wish I could carry the speed that you do at times it looks very graceful, but my old knees warn me otherwise lol.
    I don't mind red runs if they are bashed, but when they are cut up I start to struggle.

      Yes, even though I spend most of winter here, year on year, I'm still taken aback by the breathtaking views I see.. and believe me when I say they are even more stunning in real life... I'm not that familiar with Austria apart from where I've been. For Switzerland, I would recommend getting the magic pass. It costs CHF399 in April / May, and you get access to about 70 resorts. I particularly like the ones in Val d'Anniviers, but early and late season offers Saas Fee and Glacier 3000. I'm not that young either ;-)
      It's good to see you are taking advantage of your membership. I need to get this video ready for release. As you can see, it is in raw form now and needs a description and proper thumbnail...

      Amazing engineering and incredible scenery, I could almost smell the mountain air.

      In my experience, the biggest difference between Austria and Switzerland is the cost, and Austria also has many magnificent ski resorts, with very varied slopes and easy access to infrastructure. Other than that, I recommend Super Dolomiti in Northern Italy, great snow resort with unique scenery, even better than Switzerland and Austria because its lifts are usually open until 5pm and you have longer to ski.

      I need to get a medium format rangefinder or something so I can carry it while I ski and worry less about smashing it if I crash. 😅

    Thanks for making a video:) You effort is much appreciated, What determines if the Italian side of the Matterhorn is closed for skiing? The weather seems lovely in your video, I cant understand why they would close the lifts. I am going to be in Cervinia so I am planning ahead. Max

      I would normally say weather or snow condition. I think that day it was snow condition... someone mentioned something about the glacier condition not being stable but that's all I heard....

    When will be the route cu Italy be opened, i've seen they have this issue every season and it's my dream to ski in Zermatt/ Cervinia?

    • @ChasingSnow

      It depends on the day, the weather, or the condition of the terrain. Last time I was there, it was open about half the days...

    I’m headed there in 3 weeks. I hope the road to C is open. Would you recommend hiring a guide for the first day?

    • @ChasingSnow

      Yes, I'll be back to do the run into C. If you would think a guide will be helpful, that's fine but if you are good at map reading, you can navigate yourself...

  • @Puzzoozoo

    With my luck that run will be closed when I'll probably be there in 2027. Thou the lack of skiers taking the gondola to the summit could have been an inkling that the run was closed.

    • @ChasingSnow

      I was last in Zermatt about 7 years ago, skied 12 days and the route to Cervinia was open about 5 days so it's a bit of a hit and miss. I knew it was closed, that's why I left my skis down but I still wanted to check it out, the new gondola wasn't built the last time I was there...

      To my recollection, charges are only in that particular cable car station, because it’s the highest point, a lot of people go up to look at the view, not to ski, and don’t use the restaurant.
