They should rename it to the Mnet Korean music awards. It’s just Koreans who are given awards and perform. I also think fan wars ruined MAMA. Fans get butt hurt over their groups not winning so now the awards and categories are worthless.
I discovered the MAMA awards in last when watching the SKZ maniac performance from 2022. They lost me last year when SKZ was overlooked and I was glad they didn’t attend. I have no enthusiasm to return for MAMA now that they’ve lost me.
also the performances aren't grand anymore. Think back at the insaneee performances groups like exo, bts and blackpink put, nowadays the idols just bcopy the same performance they do at mcountdown and maybe add a 17 second dance break in the middle

It is artistically rich content though. Award shows, song, music- everything is for fans...so people enjoy, then it is successful. People who work in this kpop industry, it their profession and if they cannot earn money, why do they work hard or arrange this shows. Artistic contents are not always for sale.

Jungkook had VMA nominations recently, but he is in the military, so he didn't win. Likewise, the Grammy Awards used BTS for views and clout. Though these awards provide a platform for promotions but they need to be called out for how unfair they are sometimes with highly deserving groups and soloists

I would like more transparency at music award shows...What is the criteria they use to choose winners as what I see happening in charts/album sales views often is not reflected in the choice of winners.Also how are groups that are doing great meant to compete vote wise against the likes of BTS and Black Pink if they are vote oriented...there needs to be a way to level the playing field...The voting itself should not be limited to one platform but conducted in a way that all are able to access.
