Awesome interview Steven, i really enjoying playing your character on GTA V and i really enjoying playing with Micheal and Franklin character, (I'm from Italy).
Just stumbled upon this video and it was really annoying to listen to the interviewer like he was trying to get a certain response out of him. Mad props to Steve for handling those questions so well and flipping them around on the interviewer.
I've been playing GTA since I was 11 and that my first was vice city, but I've never developed a feeling of affection for any of the characters like I have for Trevor. He might be a psycho and whatnot but at the same time you get the feeling all he needs is a fucking hug for the simple reason Trevor is just a product of the world he lives in. No ones ever cared about him like he has for them, everyone has turned their backs on him or betrayed him. The way he is with Martin's wife is the real Trevor but once again he has to let go of someone he cares about. I think if you take away the violent aspects of the character there isn't a single person who can't relate to the way Trevor feels and that makes for one hell of a character.
FlynnRider trevor was MUCH SANER than michael. trevor had a fuckin SANE and CLEAR outlook on life. couldnt be deluded by the fact he didnt care much for personal hygiene. trevor was alright and a deep thinker, a noncaring doer nevertheless.
FlynnRider yes, yes, yes, a thousand times YES to everything you wrote. trevor is a GEM and the affection and attraction i felt towards him when he was first introduced was instantaneous. plus, he's freakin' canadian! what's not to love?!
Very good point on video game violence by Steven Ogg. I've been playing video games, including violent ones for years and I never had any violent outbreaks or anything like that. And I also know many people like me, most of my cousins been playing games as such for a long time. It's all about the child's common sense and intelligence. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out good from bad and real life from video game. And if some children are having a difficult time figuring these out then its up to the parents to talk them through. Literal talking, not yelling punishing or beating. Communication is key.
Likewise, I've never felt the urge to harm someone or some being as a result of playing video games with violence. Personally I love the Grand Theft Auto series and have/are playing/played it for years, but never had any kind of reflecting their virtual violence to real life. As Steven said, it is merely up to the player's childhood/way they grew up on how they react on such things. Aside that I usually am one of those boring fools that somehow just love cruising around in a simulatively way through the virtual worlds of Grand Theft Auto such as following traffic rules or exploring the world in various ways you would in real life. Wether that might be one of the reasons I don't? I'm not sure either...
I think parents are just looking for an excuse because violent depictions in movies and plays have been in our lives since the beginning and its the parents fault to not have read the M-RATED 17+ label stuck on the front of it.
I have played GTA since i was 6 years old in first class, never taken any harm from it! i have always known that it was all just a videogame and not real life!
I think its parenting that makes the child because the child doesn't know any better and its the parents job to teach them right from wrong I never hear a nice mature kid ever being violent or a bully or do drugs on the news and it annoys me when I see people talk about games being violent but cinema gets a get out of jail free card even though rambo is more violent then GTA. Plus I think games are a good outlet to let anger out and there are some discussions (but right now its rare because media don't like people saying this) That games actually lowered crimes because you can do it in a game and let anger out and not do it in real life. You just need good parents to not go criminally insane! :D :P
I would love to see Steven Ogg as the next Batman's Joker character/actor, his voice, the way he acted as Trevor in Grand Theft Auto, pretty stunning and awesome to see!
Amir360 No, that was Troy Baker, I believe. He's another fanatic voice actor. But I'm totally in agreement Steven definitely deserves some awesome roles in big cinema.
Trevor Philips well that sucks maybe they should do a better job of making sure this kids dont get thier hands on violence videogames of its that big of deal to them
My dad actually introduced me to gta sanandreas when I was young when I was around 6 or so it didn’t affect me at I actually think parents should introduce their kids to these games sooner
pandamanana Tru, my dad played GTA V before I was even born and I started to play on his PS2 and PS3 and I played on my older brothers PS4 for GTA and some other violent games at a young age, I was maybe 5-7 when I started to play and I was never scared, mostly I didn’t care for the missions till I got older
To be quite honest, Ned, Solo, and Steven - they deserve much more of the "pie" in regards to their acting for GTA 5 - these 3 were absolutely incredible. Despite all the violence within the game itself, the script is brilliant and captivating and its a great game
Even though they couldn't convey the exact facial expressions because of the tech back then, (see the last of us 2 has much better motion capture, because it's been made recently) they still conveyed so much with their voices! And I absolutely loved that they weren't your everyday Hollywood actors! Some voices that you didn't already hear in every movie ever. Really made it seem like the characters in the game were real people. Excellent acting. Excellent voice acting!
Great interview. It's awesome that they invited to the show. A lot of media otulets don't really give any credit to videogames, but his performance has been watched (and played) by tens of millions of people. I loved Trevor and I always enjoy watching Steven's interviews. I hope we get to see more of him.
I think there should be a campaign started to get some writers and producers together who have got the balls to create a Breaking Bad style TV show about the character Trevor, a chronicle of his criminal career and mishaps with other unsavoury characters, with Steven Ogg in the lead of course. Think of the potential people!!
Ogg does have an unique flavor to him, he has a bit from Nicholson, and Billy Bob Thornton, but he is mostly Steven Ogg to find a better description for him, lol. I want to see more of his work.
Well he wanted to feel and take in the background of trevor. In these types of games the actor has to take in the background story and act like that is their real life to get that authentic actions
Rockstar creates some of the best personalities for their characters. Trevor's was AMAZING to me. I loved it so much. As well as Michael and Franklin. Trevor was by far my favorite.I just love the characters in GTA V.
I think he's too 'alive' to be a psychopath (not that he couldn't pull that off, this man is a great actor), but emotionless character would be just wasting this guys potential. he could be a great serial killer tho, and he has already proven that he could pull any 'madman' or unpredictable nutjob role, that's forever included in his acting range thanks to GTA 5.
SausosiosIsrugos A nuanced performance as a psychopath would be far from dull; conveying evil without the use of outlandish gestures is creepy if done right, not "emotionless". Also, psychopaths don't necessarily have to be dull and emotionless. They can have bold characters as well. They're humans, too, with all the emotions that non-psychopathic humans possess. The only difference is a lack of empathy; everything else remains.
Tedsta101 yeah, you're probabily right about a psychopath performance variations. it all falls on the script I guess, which doesn't have to reflect laws of reality all that strongly although I'm always glad when they do. But psychopaths do no possess all emotions of the human being, since some of those are tied to empathy itself. psychopath won't feel sympathy, pitty, compassion etc. you can't apply to their humane factor since they simply dont have it. psychopaths are driven by their rational sense, they rarely make decisions based on emotions (a.k.a. irrational decisions). but since empathy's definition has blurred lines and abstract nature, it makes rather difficult to speculate on this topic. after all, there's no unit to reflect the amount of empathy one has or doesn't.
Indeed. I thought that too but kids will. Just like drugs are illegal, but people take them. People will get them if they want them so in a weird way the same applies here. Steven watched his son play this game (how cool!) but yeah kids will play it either way. I get your point though :)
Ozzy Osbourne yes true. But they can't buy them themselves. The store clerc won't let them buy it. So it's the parents responsebility. Not Rockstar's responsebility
Great interview, Trevor is an amazing character and Steven certainly deserves all the recognition. Moreover, you should know that this game is for adults, if a child is playing is because of parents...
Steven Ogg should really be in more main roles. Everything I've seen him in before (I did know of him prior to GTA V) he did really well with too, no matter how big or small the part was. He had been on stuff like Law and Order and Third Watch prior to GTA V mostly in smaller guest roles. If you look at his IMDB, he's been in a lot more stuff since he got the recognition from his work on GTA V.
Jay Jimenez It's racist that you think I'm hating black dudes.. Nah but for real.. I hate some people not all are blacks, some are arabs, mexicans, Whites, blacks, greens, blues,
He is most likely not to be in movies or anything. Because he is forever now known and will be remembered as Trevor Phillips. If you ever see him you will yell “Trevor” ever see him in a add “Oh hey look it’s Trevor” see him in a movie? “Look it’s Trevor” you want to search up his name? ‘Facts about Trevor’ do you get my point of view?
ugh I hate when people try to make video games out to be the "cause of violence". The first really violent form of entertainment I experienced was playing GTA Vice city. I was 8-9 years old at the time. I hadn't watched any violent movies or violent tv shows previous to that. I didn't have my parents up my ass constantly telling me what I saw was bad and that I shouldn't replicate it in real life. I just played and I loved playing it. I never once felt the urge to want to do anything like that in real life. To me it isn't even parents being parents that prevent it, as much as it is just common sense to know without being told that doing things like that in real life isn't right. But obviously being that young your parents have to be the ones that go and get the game for you. Now if you as a parent have a kid that is a delinquent that always is getting in trouble or has a form of mental illness that causes them to not know any better then common sense (once again) is that your kid shouldn't be playing those games just yet so then why get it for them? because they cried about it and begged you? so what they will get over it. But in the end yea video games are "interactive" but they are no more violent then the shit you see on tv or in movies or on the internet. Hell I see more violence on the news half the time than I do in a GTA game. Just tired of that argument and 9/10 it's coming from some old 60 year old grandpa that hasn't ever played so much as pacman in their entire lives.
Jimmy Gangster Your too much of a lazy slob to replicate anything you see in video games, son. That's why me and your mother just let you get on with it. Anyway, get off TH-cam and start putting more resumes out. I want you to have a better life than I've had, and that means getting a proper fucking job.
Even how he talks about the process is different now. I hate how he keeps calling it a cartoon now, even though he said it himself, it's real acting. It's like he doesn't consider his work on the game real acting anymore.
he was really funny i asked him to say a quote from the game and it made me crack up. hes very chill. i asked him to say "WANT ME TO PULL MY DICK OUT AGAIN?"
call me crazy but I think Trevor is the most sane out of the 3 main characters. Franklin and Michael always justify their actions because they never had opportunities but Trevor acknowledges what he does is fucked up.
I see what you're saying but clinically that's the defenition of insanity. Insanity is when a person does things knowing the morality of it is far beyond questionable. self justifying horrible things you do means you have a moral compass of some sort. This can be justified because you are using self justification to ease your mind.
8:31 I hate it when those questions are asked, it's not a game for kids, it's age limited so it's down to parents to ensure they're not letting their kids play games that are age limited, they're not appropriate for children. Game classifications work the same as movie classifications, it's down to the parent to control what their children have access to, not the content makers. Blaming the game or movie studios for your children seeing something you don't want them to see is just shirking your duties as a parent.
Steven's acting in Grand Theft Auto V was fantastic. He's got some serious chops worth putting in a triple-A drama on TV or cinema as a leading role. I would pay big bucks to see that. The next Nicholson!
If given an opportunity to get on the big screen,I bet he could play a believable psychopath, but I am also interested in how diverse his ability to play other roles, separating the pieces that created Trevor and have time to focus and spend time each
I think the kind of character he could play perfectly would be like a criminal genius kind of character. One that's a mixture of Hannibal lector and trevor Phillips.
The problem isn't violence in videos games or movies it's parents that are too lazy to do their jobs as parents so their kids are getting raised BY video games and TV.
Dr. Lemonade Sadly, it is probably due to both a lack of parenting skills and wanting to spoil their child. We live in an age where most parents just sit their kid in front of either a computer screen or a game console and let them have at it. I have no issue with an older teenager playing this game as long as the parenting has been done right, but for a kid that is 12 or 13....that is just wrong, really.
Dr. Lemonade i think i would hold off on my kids playing gta 5, because the amount of references and content between the lines is incredible. Having a young person playing the game might be a waste of such genius, i would let him/her grow up a bit before letting them play it.
When he keeps having to explain to people the ENTIRE performance was motion captured (the three leads didn't just lend their voices alone), I WANNA SEE IT! I want to see REAL footage of the three leads acting out scenes, non digitised. It must have been filmed! I can't believe not a single second of live action has ever appeared! It sucks!
freddybeer i do too, it's upsetting that there's not any footage whatsoever. i really wanted to see the improvised scene where trevor tripped over the fence and fell when steven really had tripped and fell in real life.
Genius to have kept that in. It's probably one of the best moments in the narrative. Not only how fast Trevor loses it - but that he accepts Franklin's apology!
Steven handled the hosts questions most professionally, anyone else with a celebrity sized ego would've most certainly flipped out by the time he was constantly asked about video game violence
They might not have been into the "avatar" term because of its connotations with the Microsoft product lineup specifically, and the avatars they have you create alongside your profile. Aside from that, I think it's a pretty appropriate term. As for the kid's playing GTA thing, that's entirely on the parents. It's an M rated game in Canada, which means it's for 17+ audiences, as it says in multiple places on the box. You won't easily find a retailer that will sell those games to someone younger, and they definitely won't be part of one of the major chains. If a child ends up with a copy of it, then fault falls entirely upon the parents, especially with the parental restrictions you can easily place on modern game consoles. It's the same, tired, old and ridiculous association people make, in that all video games are for kids and that only kids play video games. We're no longer in 1985, the medium's developed to the point where there's great variety in what's available. Not all games are made for all audiences, their ratings reflect that, and it's fairly ignorant to suggest that things should be otherwise. I understand that video games are still unfamiliar territory for many people from older generations, but it's the equivalent of asking: "Well, what if a kid watches Saw?"
Its a shame that he didn't get more popularity to be a hollywood actor because everyone always think he's Trevor and he can't become any other character
I've been playing GTA since I was like 13. Idk why my mom let me play this game. Guess it kept me out of trouble :) I blame my older brother who got me hooked w/ GTA 3. That's where it all began.
;) thanks to Q
Glad you're getting the recognition you've worked hard for :)
Is it true you are Armenian Canadian?
Hi Steven you are the best voice of GTA V

pollockdonald if they ever remade the shinning💯💯
he played as simon in the walking dead
Shut the fuck up Jimmy you d-bag.
PlayStation Master Race haha yes!
***** Why? Because you prefer another console over it and therefore it has to suck?
Jimmy Gangster Your too much of a lazy slob to replicate anything you see in video games, son. That's why me and your mother just let you get on with it.
Anyway, get off TH-cam and start putting more resumes out. I want you to have a better life than I've had, and that means getting a proper fucking job.
***** Hey Michael XD
Henry Rollins and Trevor, I had no idea such a thing existed... Down the rabbit hole I go.
considering Black Flag has a song in GTA V fits even more
It’s nice to hear him speak fondly of his work as Trevor. Now 2023, he seems very resentful of that past.
Even how he talks about the process is different now. I hate how he keeps calling it a cartoon now, even though he said it himself, it's real acting. It's like he doesn't consider his work on the game real acting anymore.
At some point, I thaught Steven would take an AK and kill the other guy
i was so scared when i met him lol
What's he like in real life?
***** hes awesome, unlike other actors ive met, him and i had an actual conversation. i got a picture with him too
THISISFLAMINGDWAGON You are so fucking lucky...
What was he like? Was he really sweet? Omg u lucky bro!! :) i wanna know how was ur experience meeting him
he was really funny i asked him to say a quote from the game and it made me crack up. hes very chill. i asked him to say "WANT ME TO PULL MY DICK OUT AGAIN?"
call me crazy but I think Trevor is the most sane out of the 3 main characters.
Dang Steven look's exactly like trevor without the scars.
Sad that he lost his love for the Trevor character
Was expecting him to pull out an ak or have a freak out the entire time
8:31 I hate it when those questions are asked, it's not a game for kids, it's age limited so it's down to parents to ensure they're not letting their kids play games that are age limited, they're not appropriate for children. Game classifications work the same as movie classifications, it's down to the parent to control what their children have access to, not the content makers.
Blaming the game or movie studios for your children seeing something you don't want them to see is just shirking your duties as a parent.
That voice ... Just wonderful ! And what an amazing character ! Good job :)
funny tho he sounds like a Rick from Rick And Morty
i think he'd be an amazing Rick
I describe Trevor as a combo of The Joker and Chucky. And I always customize all of Trevor’s vehicles with Joker colors
steve is awesome
wouldnt mind seeing more of him. he would be a good villain
just watched he never died, freaked out about Trevor, googled the cast, googled his name and just found out that he is really trevor. cool guy.
+THe COntrarian no he not in real life.
LOL I was just playing Grand Theft Auto 5
He looks like a Trevor that doesn’t sell meth
Oh irony... Jian Ghomeshi is talking about violent and torture.
I don't want a movie Steven ogg playing trevor but i want the TV Show series of Steven ogg playing trevor phillips
7:55 Thank you Steven. As a long time violent gamer, I have a clean record. Video games aren't the problem.
Steven's acting in Grand Theft Auto V was fantastic. He's got some serious chops worth putting in a triple-A drama on TV or cinema as a leading role. I would pay big bucks to see that. The next Nicholson!
If given an opportunity to get on the big screen,I bet he could play a believable psychopath, but I am also interested in how diverse his ability to play other roles, separating the pieces that created Trevor and have time to focus and spend time each
I like Steven but I like insane Trevor better
So you like insane people?
I can be Trevor, and you can be Ron or someone that you like to be..
+Ali Bilal Yeah!! We are now a full on crew! only need a gang banger now!
@@Pelviss Scooter brother???!!
I CANT STOP HEARING PROFESSOR VENOMOUS
sAMEEE
Same lol
very good actor. i can only see him playing villains tho
He’s got a bit of a Jack Nicholson vibe...more down to Earth tho
He’s voice is killing me with Prestige when he’s talking
I think the kind of character he could play perfectly would be like a criminal genius kind of character. One that's a mixture of Hannibal lector and trevor Phillips.
The problem isn't violence in videos games or movies it's parents that are too lazy to do their jobs as parents so their kids are getting raised BY video games and TV.
Haven't heard the name "Jian Ghomeshi" since his court trials.
great interview! Stephen Ogg you have many fans here in Brazil!
You are incredible!
Trevor Phillips... in another universe.. with a PhD degree in gaming psychology.. from Los Santos University
8:17 funny how he later plays a part in better call saul
steve add more videos,,,,we love you!
Great interview! More power Steven!
Great interview!
I love how he actually looks like Trevor
Why would a child be playing GTA V to begin with?
Some kids are really spoiled.
Cause its a fun game...
Dr. Lemonade Exactly, people need to stfu (People being the people bitchig about GTA's existence)
This is sooo awesome!! I love GTA and I always enjoyed playing with Trevor :) Steven Ogg is just an awesome guy! :D
Rockstar should pay them more.
Steven handled the hosts questions most professionally, anyone else with a celebrity sized ego would've most certainly flipped out by the time he was constantly asked about video game violence
Can we get some footage of the motion capture bits? o3o
trevor and kevin smith in the same room i would cry!!!
Also Steven Ogg not only provided voice for Trevor but also motion capture.thats way they look alike because they are the same man.
I’ve seen many pictures of Steven ogg but I’ve never seen him look so similar to Trevor until this I saw this video
Imma say it: Steven is fine asf and I think Trevor is too when I ignore his psychotic tendencies, drug abuse and imagine he has good hygiene 😭
Imagine how fucking crazy this would sound listening to it on a radio
Steven likes Tom Hardy! Life complete! XD
Steven ogg is much better than Steven mp3
*applause*
Steven Egg
Welcome to where your going!
Steven if you ever play through GTA V you need to make a let's play series.
This guy is so real i would like to see him play the villain role or as a vigilante in a comic book universe for some reason.
He looks exactly like his character, this is so good ^^
This whole time I get this sociopath vibe from Steven in the video
Great interview Steven. Now we just need to get you on your knees... And we'll meet the man.
