I felt this same way when Tyson Chandler left the Mavs, one year he was here but he became DPOY in NY immediately, came back and we were in the playoffs again and we chased DeAndre like we did Dwight and he left
Vernon lead the huddles before The Rockets went out on the court, up until he left the team during the first round of the playoffs in 1995. Kenny filled that void for the remainder of the '95 playoff run. Kenny never was the fiery emotional type during that Rockets era, it was Mad Max and Mario Elie.
As much as I like Clyde Drexler, that trade was the beginning of the end of that Rockets team. The Rockets were guard heavy because of Hakeem's inside dominance and losing Thorpe was very bad. Drexler as great as he was, ate up alot of minutes at guard and played Maxwell's position; so technically we lost Thorpe and Maxwell, and Elie was forced to play more SF and Horry was forced to play more PF taking away his three point shot. It also telegraphed Horry's play, because when he was in the SF spot the opponents knew he was shooting. Then Kenny Smith got hurt. Then they traded Horry and Cassell for Barkley, (sigh) and let Carl Herrera and Matt Bullard go because they had Barkley at PF. Barkley was my second favorite player at that time behind Hakeem, and I was like "NOOOOOOO, WHAT ARE MY ROCKETS DOING? I mean, you didn't see the Lakers or Celtics dismantle those teams after winning the chip. Then after rebuilding the team around Dream, Clyde and Chuck; they didn't spend the money to get quality shooters to open the floor for them. Matt Maloney was wide open all the time and Mario Elie, a very good defender, was too small to play SF full time. It also left only Clyde and Elie to defend MJ and Pippen; when before they had Maxwell, Smith, Cassell, Elie, Horry, Bullard and Herrera to throw at them. Even Thorpe would guard Pippen in the post at times. The Bulls would have smoked the 97-98 Rockets. The 94 Rockets would have destroyed the Bulls, 93 and 95 Rockets/Bulls matchup would have been great, I think the Bulls win both, maybe a split. 96 Bulls obliterate the Rockets. Another big loss was letting Buck Johnson go after the 1993 season. He was a Scottie Pippen type player, but not as big or as good. He was a quick defender though.
@@JustLikeHeaven77 "the 94 Rockets would have destroyed the Bulls" you're high. The 94 Bulls would have beaten the Knicks in 6 games without Jordan if it weren't for Hue Hollins and the worst call in sports history. Would those Bulls have beaten the Pacers and then the Rockets in the 94 Finals? I don't know, but add MJ to that team and they beat the Rockets in 5 or at most 6 games. The Bulls played a decisive game 7 exactly ONE TIME during their 6 championship runs. The Rockets played 2 game 7s in 1994 alone.
When the Rockets lost Vernon the team wasn't the same and the Rockets had no one to guard MJ. The Drexler trade was great, but it cost Thorpe and MadMax and was the beginning of the end for the Olajuwon Rockets.

They got people in their ears at times too. Getting direction from upstairs. Shaq crumbling the paper prob didn't help haha.
Kenny being dead serious makes this even better.
The combination of Chuck going "Oh lawrrrd" and Shaq crumbling his paper had me dying lmao.
Rename the video "The NBA TNT crew roast Kenny smith for being a narcissist".
Man they got on Kenny quick
lmao they not the only ones
He deserved it for what he said lol
Kenny getting annoying now lol
Actually... Kenny wasn't lying. I've seen video's of Kenny doing exactly that. Shaq and Chuck are hating.
Kenny used to get a free pass from Shaq and Chuck back in the day. Not the case anymore.

"calm down petty white" 😂😂😂
Chucks the best!!
“I’m sorry Fredo” lol Ernie with them slightest jabs!

Old school point guard.. that position carried leadership qualities and was an extension of the coach no matter who the best player was

Charles going, "Oh Lord" at 0:32 is funny.

I love how this conversation began talking about Vern and quickly went to Petty White.
