Few notes about number 1. It was the western conference final game five in 1986. Hakeem got kicked out of the game which led to the infamous ralph Sampson shot that eliminated the lakers. Two, the guy who grabbed hakeem from the neck was Maurice lucas who hakeem got into a scuffle with in the same video when he was with Seattle.

Hakeem was a hothead for sure at UH and in his early years with the Rockets. I think its because he was a soccer player first. He calmed down as he matured.
The McDyess-Hakeen scuffle is the reason why you, the winning team, take out your starting players (especially if its a star player) out of the game if its already guaranteed that youre winning the game, because thats when the losing team will try to create drama. No need to risk a suspension or injury on a game that youve already won
The ghetto came to the NBA in the late 70's about the time Kermit took his cheap shot. And it ended with the malice at the palace thriller. Three refs and watching the replays has brought some civility back to the game.
This is misleading, despite the narrative, Hakeem was a bit of a hot head up until he recommited to Islam and brought the "H" back to his name. There is this pervasive, erroneous narrative that Dream was some sort of stoic, low post guru, when, while his footwork was always there, he was more of a "force of nature" type guy, with more of his points coming from his explosiveness. He had the antecedents of The "Dream Shake" turn around, that little half hook over either shoulder, and an obscenely quick baseline spin that usually ended up with a powerful dunk on the other side of the rim. He didn't have the upfakes and the feints, and honestly if you didn't need to use those moves, then why use them? Credit to him for adding so much to his game over the years and even more for his maturation. Honestly this fully formed, jedi post scoring, dignified elder statesman from day one narrative is almost dehumanizing. The most compelling, inspiring part of his story is that transformation, they've been doing the same with Kobe as of late, I just think that personal growth is something to be commended and celebrated at every turn especially when it is so stark of a contrast.
The nba was great then a physical game💪Embiid reminds me of Hakeem but Hakeem was smoother he moved fast and graceful not clumsy like Embiid, Hakeem looked like he was on ice skates with an unbelievable short game his game was so flawless. If your teaching the center position watch Hakeem film! He perfected the position using his size but not dependent on it like shaq, Hakeem was a perfect center def taking his Q from kareem and modernized it a little
He can beat you with his basketball skills 🏀 and his mitts 👊 He was definitely one of the more feared (and talented) basketball players to ever play in the NBA and for good reason
I had to pause the video. #5 was definitely on purpose I remember that play lol. 2 piece elbow to the face. I swear I remember it seemed like it took a long time for Mason for calm down he was pissed!
With the Dream watching from the locker room, Ralph Sampson hit the turnaround shot at the buzzer eliminating the Lakers from the playoffs after the Kupchak fight. It was exhilarating seeing the Lakers eliminated in '86...
That was the old Akeem before he converted to Islam. Teams couldn't stop him so the coaches would send in their goons to play dirty and give him cheap shots to get him to retaliate so he can get ejected. Celtics and Lakers were notorious for that.

You Forgot The Michael Cage Fight Also The Fight He Had Against The Celtics In The Finals He Hit Dennis Johnson & Made Him Bleed & He Had Fight Against The Bulls These 5 Fights Are Nothing Compared 2 The 1s I Mentioned
Facts
Ralph Sampson was ejected from that '86 Finals game......game 4 I think. While Olajuwon was clocking DJ, Sampson and Jerry Sichting (or Danny Ainge) were going at it simultaneously.
It was Hakeem fights that really got me into basketball. I grew up liking Dr. J, Bernard King, KAJ, George Gervin, Magic and Bird....but Hakeen O actually had me sitting and focused on the games and the players. Primarily a Lakers fan, until Jordan and Dominique slam dunk contest....then it was all Jordan, while I rocked my favorite number 21
Man! He fired on guy for the Jazz!!!
😂😂😂😂
When a vid starts out telling viewers to wait for the end, I leave.
You realize how little they know or research. Starts in 87 with akeem going against Maurice Lucus and near the end of the video they show the akeem and Kupchek episode where Lucus wraps up akeem's neck and pulls him down to the Lakers bench, but the guy refers to Lucas as "another player" grabs Olajuwon from behind not recognizing the "another player" was also Maurice Lucus.
From the phi slamma jamma to the n.b.a the dude was a monster. Top 5 centers all time.
@3:08, you don't see the hand touch Dream to bring that smack.... you may have gotten or desperately need one of those.
There's a whole story about Billy Paultz and the Olajuwon sucker punch on NBA's website.. Why do people act like we don't know what led him to punch Paultz?
Because they love saying a Black man hit a Yt dude for no reason. Wypipo and Black Women love provoking Black men, but play victim when Black men lay them paws
Cause people don't care who you are.
Just because he's an easy going gentle giant doesn't mean he won't defend himself when morons feel they can take liberties.
Defend himself? Like Hakeem throwing a sucker punch at Billy Paultz, in a playoff game. What are you talking about?
In 1985 at the Fon-day recreation center in Houston..myself and my squad of teenaged team mates walked in the REC center, Hakeem was escorted to leave the center. This was 1985 or 6 ,,but till this day..I wonder why.
For real bro. There were some tough games there
80’s 90’s nba is real basketball 🏀
I was JUST watching a clip of Vernon Maxwell talking about a time Dream slapped the shit out of him and almost got stabbed 😂
I was coming here to mention this...Olajuwon was hands-ready at all times 😂
That spear by the ref was Goldberg level
The Dream is the best player I've ever seen play with my own eyes... and I saw Jordan play in the playoffs versus the Magic (from the floor.)
That clap yoooo 🤣🤣🤣😳
The greatest skilled center I’ve ever seen!! And I watched Kareem!
Kareem was before my time but I wonder how they would match up
@@careywhite9974 Kareem would dominate!
@@andrewjulien5038 I would love to see that match up though. Honestly, they are the most respected skill wise for their positions.
@@andrewjulien5038 sorry I saw Kareem play in his prime when he was with Milwaukee and Oscar Robertson No way was he better than Hakeem
Heard Hakeem was a hot head in his early years
Dominated Shaq at 95% of the time!
You do know shaq average 28 ppg, right???
Few notes about number 1. It was the western conference final game five in 1986. Hakeem got kicked out of the game which led to the infamous ralph Sampson shot that eliminated the lakers.
Two, the guy who grabbed hakeem from the neck was Maurice lucas who hakeem got into a scuffle with in the same video when he was with Seattle.
Hakeem was a great player and come to think of it, he didn't even eat any food nor drink any water (or any other fluids) from sunrise to sunset during the month of Ramadan while he was still playing.
He didn't eat food before games and didn't drink water during games.
Do a Larry "Grand Ma Ma" Johnson fights!
Late bloomer, competitor, intelligent center, best footwork out of any big man. He got hands too.
the number 1 pick overall before Jordan was a late bloomer?
@@almadeunrebel hakeem didn't pick up a basketball until he was 17. Hakeem was not very polished out of college, he had raw athletic ability and everyone knew his potential. So the guy wasn't completely wrong when he said he was a late bloomer
@@jlobiafra i hear you 👍🏽
Yet his defense was ready since he played handball and soccer so his timing is second to none.
Smoothest big man ever. In my top 5 for sure. Top 3 footwork. Ain't know them hands worked too
Hakeem an intelligent man, wanted no part of Anthony Mason..Mase was an OG
Top ten in five categories! Can't beat that! Especially for a big man. We were fortunate to have watched him play.
Wilt the top spot in all categories!
Wilt played against insurance salesman and Carpenters who played basketball couple months a year.
@@dannytreyjhoo4620 Kareem: State Farm, Bill Russell: Geico, Elgin Baylor: Hartford. Them some hella insurance agents. No matter what era, Wilton Norman Chamberlain would have dominated. To say the greatest basketball player of all time is disrespectful. Fitting, the greatest athlete of all time: Wilton Norman Chamberlain. Period !

Hakeem can flourish in both old & new NBA👍
When Anthony Mason got hit on slo mo, you can see a tooth flying through the air. No wonder he was pissed.
My man Otis Thorpe is overlooked. He was a real one and a pretty damn good player. Also, notice how even Charles Oakley didn’t want none of Hakeem and Otis Thorpe. Lastly, look how Patrick was getting after his own teammates….great respect for Hakeem!
Two other fights I remember seeing were Hakeem throwing hands with Kurt Nimphius during a 1984-85 game in Dallas, and fighting Seattle's Clemon Johnson in the 1986-87 season. Also, he punched Utah's Mark Eaton in a 1985-86 game in Houston.
They never called Shaq for throwing elbows....Shaq was the best at playing dirty.....I hated him as a player but knowing him now he's a great guy and funny.
I’m still waiting for a real fight
I remember when he snuck the whopper (Billy Paultz )
Akeem the Dream is still my hero
Rick Mahorn, Dennis Rodman and Kevin Willis would have given Hakeem a much better fight than Billy Paultz!!!
I miss this highly competitive era of ball. No buddy buddy ball like these days
Still waiting for the fight 😂😂😂😂😂😂
NIGERIAN NIGHTMARE WE ALSO CALL HIM
Damn so kimaru Usman B4 Usman
Hakeem was a hothead for sure at UH and in his early years with the Rockets. I think its because he was a soccer player first. He calmed down as he matured.
Akeem the Big red fighting MACHINE
Hakeem a man of peace ✌🏾
Hakeem the GOAT!🐐
The McDyess-Hakeen scuffle is the reason why you, the winning team, take out your starting players (especially if its a star player) out of the game if its already guaranteed that youre winning the game, because thats when the losing team will try to create drama. No need to risk a suspension or injury on a game that youve already won
There is no boring moment at 80s and 90s NBA League.
8:03 pause 😬
The ghetto came to the NBA in the late 70's about the time Kermit took his cheap shot. And it ended with the malice at the palace thriller. Three refs and watching the replays has brought some civility back to the game.
Anthony Mason a.k.a. venom LOL that’s what we used to call them back in the 90s. He looks like the Marvel character venom
This ass whooping was sponsored in part by the "GREAT MOTHERLAND !!!"
He’s a peaceful for the most part, it was heat of the game
That ref at Lakers fight was totally wrong he was dumb not brave. Hopefully he received a fine
RIP Anthony Mason.
He perfected the position using his size but not dependent on it like shaq, Hakeem was a perfect center def taking his Q from kareem and modernized it a little
He can beat you with his basketball skills 🏀 and his mitts 👊
He was definitely one of the more feared (and talented) basketball players to ever play in the NBA and for good reason
Hakeem turned into Shaq with that elbow to Mason 😂
I had to pause the video. #5 was definitely on purpose I remember that play lol. 2 piece elbow to the face. I swear I remember it seemed like it took a long time for Mason for calm down he was pissed!
I'm still waiting to see the fights. The last two were scuffles the others were discussions
Rumor has it Billy Paultz kept telling Hakeem to “stick around til the end of the video”. Honestly, very relatable
With the Dream watching from the locker room, Ralph Sampson hit the turnaround shot at the buzzer eliminating the Lakers from the playoffs after the Kupchak fight. It was exhilarating seeing the Lakers eliminated in '86...
But you have to remember first "Akeem" Olajuwon stopped Ralph Sampson from getting into a fight earlier in the game
These were good times in the NBA.Bring it back.
Nah. Goon ball has no place in the sport.
I remember all of them!! It was rare to see him throw a punch, but when he does…
That was the old Akeem before he converted to Islam. Teams couldn't stop him so the coaches would send in their goons to play dirty and give him cheap shots to get him to retaliate so he can get ejected. Celtics and Lakers were notorious for that.
