For anybody else doing this, that front plastic piece that holds the headlights in is held in with 3 8mm bolts and if you remove that the fender is so much easier to pull off
Hey buddy. Im gonna attack mine today/tonite. U made the vid exactly the way my brain can handle it. Thumbs up from a rusty '96 psd owner from Mass.👍✌️
Also from Mass. was gonna say, where is the part where you fight all the rusty bolts. Just got a rust free fender and getting ready to attack this as well.
The 4 core support bolts for the upper 'L' bracket should be slotted for adjustment. You lucked out big time finding a fender with the same sun faded paint! Definitely a great score! I have a love/hate relationship with how Ford bolted the front clip together. You found that out first hand replacing the fender! Looking forward to seeing the cause of the SES light. Hopefully it's just a easy to get to sensor. Keep up the great work!
That’s good to know I’ll have to try adjusting that support sometime. I’m super thankful that I was able to get an original fender. Took way too long in my opinion; the seller gave me the run around for months, but that’s another story for another day🤣! All in all it was a good learning experience. Thanks for watching Wesley!😀👍
Thanks for the video This is the best one I seen. I have to take my fender off to get the ECU out some how the ECU is stuck on the bracket that hold it. I can't get it out at all. It suppose to slide out. Now I got to do some cut the side wall next to the driver door to force it out. Thank you Ford. Might just go to Chevy lol.
It was definitely worth it. It would’ve been a huge hassle to have the body shop do it. They would’ve had to blend the paint into the door and hood. Plus since it being metallic paint if they didn’t mix it just right the truck simply would’ve looked off.
thanks man this helped so much i am making my obs rust free and watched this video probably four times between both fenders, thanks for the video, and thats a nice truck you got there, be proud of her!
Central Oregon Shenanigans brought me here. As an OBS lover and owner myself glad to find another channel so I can learn more how-two's. So far great content great channel! New follower here.
Great work Cody!! 😁👍 Looks *fantastic* my friend. You really did luck out finding the right color fender with the correct badge! I hope you can figure out the check engine light problem without too much headache. Take care and happy wrenching 🔧
Thanks Zane! It really was an incredible find. So thankful I found it. I’ll be digging into the engine here this week. I talked to J.C. a while back, and I have a good game plan on how to tackle it. Thanks again for watching Zane take care!😀👍
Nice to see you back at it Cody. Interesting for me because I have to replace both fenders on my 97 F350 thanks to NY state salting the roads to death! Keep at it man!
Yay. A ydoc video! Nice job Cody. I would consider using a heat gun to remove both pieces of trim from the fender. Whichever one is straighter Is the one I would reapply. You can buy some 3M mounting strips at the parts store. 3M seems to make the one that has worked the best for me. Also 3M makes a headlight polisher kit that is a little more expensive but works excellent. There's two more videos for ya! Lol Again great find on the fender and I don't think it will fall off with that many bolts. Thanks for the fun.
Thank you Mr. Randall! That’s actually a really good idea to use 3m strips. I seriously was considering using some type of construction glue haha. It’s funny you mentioned polishing the headlights because a neighbor walked up to me while I was working on the truck and said I should do the exact same thing LOL. Thanks for watching as always I appreciate it!👍
Thank you I appreciate that! Good luck on your truck fender. Once I learned how the fender was bolted to the truck adjusting it became easy afterwards. Take care!
Did your front end get moved over, the finder should lineup? Do the X and check for square. Maybe someone chopping on your new fender. Great everything but the gap that most of us don’t see any way. great work, Just throwing a few ideal you can check that might help, Thank you
That’s a good question. To my knowledge everything was fine except for the headlight bezel and fender. The semi truck that rounded the corner was going at such a slow speed I doubt it put something out of wack with the rest of the truck. The body line doesn’t line up perfectly but it’s been close enough I haven’t felt the need to mess with it. That being said it’s worth checking to see if it’s square. Thanks for the insight👍
I checked my F 150 1996 and used second bolt behind hood hing, bolt to side of hood latch out to chrome it should read 55 3/4 drivers side, passenger side use second bolt behind hood hinge and run it across like you did the driver side and lay tape flat as you run beside the hood latch to chrome edge for grill hits the metal, should read 56 1/2 and I turned my hood stop straight where mine reads 62 3/4 across, Hope this will help,
Those fenders seem like the screws to remove never end. Looks great! Should have replaced the headlights while you were there already. That's a great looking truck.
That’s exactly what I thought when I was neck deep in the project LOL! I’m glad you like the truck. I’m so happy with how it turned out and I think I’ll be doing something to the headlights soon. Take care😀👍
@@ydocproductions5593 I have my 4th OBS. It's a 94 F150 regular cab long bed with 4x4, 5 speed manual, and the 4.9 6 cyl. It's a fun truck to cruise in. It the desert metalic orange color. Don't see that color much. I put 32" BFG's on it and dark tuned the windows and trimmed it in black. It looks so sweet. I love the OBS trucks.
There are adjustments that can be made to balance the gaps. Don't park the truck in the same place for when Google Maps sends another semi-rig down your road. Pretty amazing to find that front panel.
Hey thanks for the video, how long did the entire fender swap take in hours? Yes you can reduce the gap between fender and hood just loosen the 4 bolts and carefully push the fender in a bit firm up bolts , check gap them once where you like where it is tighten up but be sure to (close hood slowly) !
It took about a day to go slow and make sure the job was done the right way but it was well worth the effort. That’s good to know about the adjustments I can make on the fender cause even though the gap is minimal it still could be improved on.
Good luck reading that 1st gen obd 2. You need a snap on brick from the late 90s to talk to it. Its not a system for com and diag. And seeing as its a good navistar 7.3 youll want to gut the back pressure plate on the exhaust outlet on the turbo. Itll help your egts a lot. OH! GET rid of that suffocating stock air box. Put a k&n filter on her shell breathe way better. And if you havent. Replace the lift pump.
That’s all great advice, I truly appreciate it! Soon I’ll have the video out where I test different systems on the truck trying to find the source of that check engine light. Thanks for watching👍
I took a grinder and cut those studs off and the plastic stud. Caused me 2 hours of a head ache to re install. Vs the other side I cut and it was 30 min .
Quick question I was wondering if your grounds straps on the bottom of the radiator support and also the one by the passenger side radius arm bracket are still intact? I have been looking at pictures and videos and also looked at the wiring diagrams as I have the book. But haven't had any luck finding where they had them exactly intact. Would you mind doing a short video or possible taking pictures and emailing them to me?
The dent would’ve been too hard to pop out with tools. Plus the paint is a metallic color. So if the body shop didn’t get the paint just right it simply wouldn’t look good. Buying a whole new fender was the best solution for the look of the truck as well as price👍
You people need to invest in a rechargable drill driver, a 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 socket attachments and speed up the process. Ratching everything takes forever.
You’re exactly right! I just invested in some Milwaukee electric ratchet and impact wrench to make life easier, and they’ve already paid for themselves. Thanks for watching 😀👍
You were right. I actually ended up re-conditioning the headlights a few months ago and the results were well worth it. You can check my latest video to see the whole truck detailed inside and out.👍

They make badges the oem badges and all fenders from 93-97 are the same either from gas trucks or diesel
It was the whispered “Oh crap” pulling out the battery tray that I really related to the most 😂 😂 😂
Haha ya that was a huge job🤣! The body lines could’ve lined up a little better, but all things considered I’m happy with it.
