WOW! I had no idea you folks actually do "land" travel! May I suggest: Mackinac (pronounced MackinAW) Island in Michigan? We just drove the Pacific coast road from San Simeon to Seattle to cruise Eurodam to Alaska. The water falls east of Portland on hwy 84 are incredible and of course Butchart Gardens outside of Victoria on Van Couver island. Spectacular! Have fun!! Maybe we'll run into you folks when your in Galveston again!!

I'm surprised to see you get to have a dog at the Hampton Inns! Our kids are grown and gone but road trips for us could never include Hampton's back in our day. We always preferred Hampton Inn when we didn't have the dogs, though (2 small chihuahuas). We had to settle for La Quinta or whatever allowed dogs. Hampton Inn must have updated their pet policy. 🐾
