I had lysis adhesions of small bowel plus a appendicitis at the same time. I was a sick puppy. Vomiting and Diarrhea every other week. Finally a CT was done and found the problem needed surgery and NG tube and Potassium drip and IV fluids.

Mother in hospital 75 yrs old has had small bowel obstruction for 9 days they still have the NG tube in collecting fluids. Fecal vomiting. Hallucination and confusion. She is perhaps 100 lbs not given food or water for the duration how long can this starvation/dehydration go on before they operate? Obstruction has not reduced whatsoever.
@@3aeren they waited 12 days before doing the surgery. Day 1 post op she had major hallucinations and delerium. Day 2 she went code blue and flatlined. They weren't sure why. Spent 2 days in ICU. Then began recovery. She had dementia from that day forward. She didnt recover well mind wise. The stomach healed but she still has episodes where we think shes blocked. She is in a state of dementia and frail. Not everyone has the same result though.
@@flowerpower3011 wow! incredible.... she probably has adhesions so she might still get blockages from time to time... PUT HER ON A LOW FIBRE DIET, STRICTLY NO NUTS OR FIBROUS VEGGIES! NO SEEDS OR FRUIT/VEGGIE SKIN! INCRREASE WATER INTAKE.... i get obstructions due to adhesions and a revised low fibre diet has done wonders... if she does get blocked and pain is tolerable she mustt not eat solids. Juice and water only. if it doesnt unblock in 3 days straight to hospital (oh and if she starts vomiting bile or stomach acid then again str8 to hospital) ill pray for your mum :)
@@flowerpower3011 the pain from a bowel obstruction is the worst pain i have ever felt. i wouldnt wish it upon my worst enemy (ive gone through a heroin/methadone detox that lasted for two months, been stabbed and throat slashed, broken bones, a horrible absessed tooth that ended with MRSA and the pain just doesnt compare with the severe colicky pain of a SBO) i hope they gave her adequate pain control for those 12 days atleast! poor lady
@@3aeren you have been through so much! Rspecially the withdrawl that's the pain of pure hell. She was on that diet yes, adhesions also. She has lost so much weight 😔 and for the 12 days they could barely give her pain meds as she is allergic to most opioids and toradol also. It was rough. I hope you maintain your health from hereon in 🙂

Give morphine before ng tube. Relaxing the tissue is key if adhesions. NG tube is more trauma.
I was given a NG tube with absolutely no meds...one of the most horrific things ever to have happened to me...
NG tube made me depressed.
It was in my stomach for a week, I just can't explain the trauma because of it.
But NG tube was my lifeline so thx.

does she havee any other conditions? has she had any surgery before?

Went through this weekend had to watch the superbowl in the hospital no catheter was needed it was horrible
