The Ohlins is by far the best part of the SP. The adjustability is superb, and really makes a difference. Your 'hard' ride is not inherent, it needs adjusting to your preference.
Exactly, much wider range of versatlity....and overall better in every way.. No possible way to expect a bike to be perfect without some testing and adjustments....
Maybe an idea for a future video. When a bike like this has the ohlins fitted, ride it as delivered. Then get someone to set it up for you and have another go. The price difference to the standard model might make more sense, when feeling the difference. :)
I agree, as one of the main points for watching reviews is to determine “is this bike for me”, and when reviewers make comments about harsh suspension etc, without it being adjusted correctly, it can put potential buyers off. I’m sure set correctly this SP has to be better than standard? Standard probably set for road and SP for track from factory

Brand manufacturers are missing a trick letting new bikes go to reviewers/testers if suspension not set up properly for rider weight etc. Maybe worth suggesting ...if you haven't already. My and my wife’s first bikes after I passed our tests was the then brand new Ducati Monster. Mine in red and hers in yellow. Lovely bikes though much more basic than they are now.

This was my year to change my 2020 Street Triple RS for another middleweight, I'm in my sixties and much as I love sports bikes comfort ruled one out, so I spent two weeks going between dealerships to test ride every middleweight naked, the Yamaha MT-09 and MT-09 SP, the Ducati Monster and Monster SP, the KTM 890R, the Triumph Street Triple R and RS and finally the lovely Kawasaki Z900 RS SE, all the bikes had been upgraded, some just minor tweaks but others such as the Monster and Street Triples with major improvements, every one of these are great bikes and you genuinely couldn't go wrong with any of them, all are great fun and handling is tremendous, in particular the Street triples, the KTM and the Monsters, as for performance once again all are great but Triumphs new upgrades have raised the bar over all the rest, As for the Monsters IMO their upgrades are great for bragging rites but apart from looks and sound I found the SP identical to the standard model, perhaps someone with superior riding skills to mine could prove the SP the better bike, I loved the KTM for its fun factor but even though beauty is very much in the eye of the beholder I couldn't open my garage door every day to have the sight of the 890R hitting me, so I ended up choosing the Street Triple RS (in cosmic yellow) as I love its looks but even better Triumph have improved the handling, braking and performance of what was already a great bike, the great thing is that to the benefit of the biker all the other manufacturers now have to improve their bikes to challenge Triumph, I can't wait to see these great new bikes!

I was out on the little bike round the lanes before the rain this morning and came across a 'road closed' sign. Like you, I 'had a look' and of course I could get through, no problem! It's always worth a look as 50% of the time in my experience you CAN get through. Interesting to see that the Buckinghamshire roads are as bad as the Cheshire ones. It's a nationwide problem of course as 'austerity' has cut to the bone the government funding to local authorities to maintain the roads. And through they do do repairs, they are no more than a quick job that doesn't last as that's all they can afford. I used to have a Griso (1200 V twin) with termi exhaust and that sounded gorgeous. It howled on acceleration, and crackled and popped like a throttled back Merlin on deceleration.

Firstly I would say, save your money and buy the non SP, unless u are a rider that can really appreciate these upgrades they are not worth paying the extra. When I looked at the monster I found myself sitting on it but looking across at the new Honda Hornet which was also parked outside and I couldn’t help thinking how much of a bargain the Honda is at 7K. Right now the Hornet would be my pick of the middle weight bikes. The monster has more flair and better performance over the Hornet but but I don’t think it’s 5k or so better all in all. I love it when manufacturers bring out a really good bike that you can take home with a feeling of satisfaction with regards to the price/value for money. The Hornet delivers this and I’m not sure the Ducati does. Having said all that I do like the monster 🙂
Not so sure, the wonder and intangible joy of the earlier Ducatis was the open frame, the whir of the bevel gears and the thump & back note of the pair of open pipe Contis. I owned and rode a 1976 860 GT(e) and It was sound and joy (and roomy) and it was about the same price of a Honda 750 four, of the day. This bike is two thirds the price of my BMW 1250GS and looks about half the kit, but thanks for the good review, as usual.
Well, that, as usual, comprehensive and informative review has confirmed 3 things in my mind: 1) Your riding skills are improving as time goes by, 2) the speedometer obviously has a tendency to overead. and 3) I'm a fully qualified old fogey!! Why no 3? I don't like the looks of the bike at all, the tank top is too high, the day riding light is an awful waste of energy, the radiator looks like an afterthought and of course room for the Volvo over the rear wheel. I'd rather have a bonny anyday!! 😀
I think all the SP Ducati models re a bit of a rip off. I put a terminogi full system on my standard plus 2021 model with baffles out and it sets off the alarm on my BMW S1000RR if I start it inside the garage some great crackles and pops also when decelerating when cold. . The termi's on the test bike are just slip ons and the baffles are welded into those so impossible to do baffles out on them. I also opted to put the heated grips on when ordering ( a dealer fitted option) and Ducati do a neat small tank bag that is mounted onto a bracket around the fuel cap. Also had to put a Ohlins steering damper on it - bike sets a bit twitchy on motorways if there is a lot of wind or when passing big trucks. No problems since I fitted the steering damper though.
Did it sound better in real life ? Sounded a tad tinny on the mic, the recent Street Triple sounded much better with the mic set-up...think it looked nicer too, personal thing though !
Great review, but I continue to be disappointed with the direction that Ducati has taken under Audi ownership (VAG are the best car makers going. I do own and drive an Audi). The Monster was designed as a stripped back, bare bike. This isn't. Fine for some, but I'll stick to my '95 Monster M900. Trellis frame, dry clutch, air cooled, L twin - the soul of what was Ducati. It still puts a smile on my face - the grin factor.
I’m not usually a Ducati fan but that bike is simply gorgeous. Loved the off road segment (closed road) - brilliant🙂 I prefer a pi** pot brake fluid reservoir just because I find it reassuring to see the fluid level! Guess I’m a nervous rider!
@@TheMissendenFlyerremember…..Bruce got in trouble with the police over one of his vids. I’d edit that pavement bit out mate! I actually rode under a JCB jib once! 😂😂
Find myself looking at it and thinking it reminds me of, yamaha, honda, maybe bmw, in itself not a bad thing, but Ducati should shout out Ducati even when parked IMO.
I would say the SP is definitely worth it. * Öhlins suspension, including steering dampener. * Termignoni exhaust with nicer looks and sound. * Better brakes * Better tires (Diablo Rosso 4 instead of 3) * Lithium battery * Wet riding mode The Öhlins suspension + termignoni exhaust gives it a much better look and combined with the SP livery I think it's much better looking overall. It feels more premium and tbh if you can afford the base version you probably can afford the SP too because the difference really isn't that big. I got the SP 2024 myself and I love it! All upgrades are clearly explained here: th-cam.com/video/wD3JDoWuWDU/w-d-xo.html
Having good suspension though the clickers make a noticeable difference.....couple clicks either way can be more noticeable than average..... Would always choose the better quality stuff... Am sure you can soften that ohlins up to ride pretty sweet......much more versatile range with better componets usually.... SP is better choice imo...your already buying a ducati anyways😂 I mess with my suspension quite a bit.......
Fab Review. The 950 engine is one of Ducati's best. I love my 950 Multistrada. You rarely see comparisons of the lower models against the blingy versions, so its great to hear your thoughts. Same with the Street Triple. I tested both the 950 multis before I bought one, and went for the standard. I have a monster too, but the original 93 one, which I love. A total opposite the new SP 😅. Could the Monster or Street Triple be a replacement for your Panigale???
Thank you Mr. Flyer. What a beast of a bike, it looks a bit frightening to me lol. I wonder whether the quick shifter will "loosen up" with use? (the one on my '21 Street Triple certainly has, although at very low speeds it doesn't change up that easily) You often mention the bikes you test could appeal to riders planning track days, I wondered whether it's something you might do on this channel, with an instructor maybe. I can't be the only "sports bike" user who doesn't but might. Lastly I love the riding gear you feature - I'm in need of summer gloves atm. :>)
I don't know..... the Termignone exhaust probably sounds great to the rider (and those who are passed by) but they didn't sound very good to me. I would guess that it's just the way your camera mic picks up the sound. However, I really like the way the Falco Aviator Boots look and work with 2 zippers!
At that pricelevel, a few other machines springs to mind. I tried the standard one and it's a fine machine. I think I would go with the KTM though. But so many good bikes these days. Thank you for this well done review mr Flyer. And those gloves are really worth every penny.
Looks like a fun bike, interesting comparison to the Street Triple, I'm in the process of buying my next bike at the end of this year... not sure I can justify the Ducati based on my previous experience of the Multistrada... but Triumphs ain't cheap either!
Ducati gives USA the DRL unlike Triumph, though you'll still need to order the various indicators. The bike does feel tall. Very nice machine. I think the quality is better than Triumph. The Ducati screen/info is way better.
Probably a lovely bike to ride but take the red paint and decals away and to me it looks more like a cheap Chinese bike, id still pick an old monster over the new one.
They gave it the correct title ( Monster ) . Looking at this Monstrosity one would never imagine that Ducati once manufactured very attractive looking motorcycles .
@@TheMissendenFlyer It should be in mint condition it’s new ,but it’s still looks weird like a mechanical insect . Ducati have lost the plot ,this is what happens when computer nerds are let loose in design departments .
Usual great review and an interesting contrast with the norton and triumph. To answer the critics i find the triumph (so called british) marketing far worse than ducati. In my view i always find ducati something special although we all know the servicing costs are high. For me triumph comes below all the major Japanese bikes. I would take that bike over triumph and norton all day although as you say no need for stiff ohlins for normal road use. Thanks again for your excellent and lets not forget free entertainment.
It’s a nice bike and it’s a Ducati, but can’t help thinking it looks like any other naked bike now, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki. There was no mistaking the original monster for anything else with its trellis frame. Nice but nowt special. 😕
I have loved my Monster Ducatis, and the 2 Monsters I had - a 2006 S2R1000 air cooled, and a 2008 S4RS Testastretta... the S4RS was a lot faster, and really needed the Ohlins suspension. I went with Japanese 4 cylinder sportbikes for years after, and always missed the Ducati rumble and dry clutch rattle. I wish I had one today.
You mentioned in your review that the bike could be good on a track. Why don't you give it a try and see if you can get the suspension set up to suit you ? Could be an interesting watch.
Nice review, as always, but as usual (and you are not the only one!!) how can you speak about grip levels, handling and so on if you ride on that type of roads and those speeds. I mean, there is hardly not one real corner and your max speed was maybe 70 mph...I really hope you have other types of roads where you live, otherwise, why ride a bike? Or why that type of bikes. A Harley would be more suitable.
It is a great looking bike but like many have said it is very pricey in this segment. In fact the price is getting close to the V2 Streetfighter which is way more powerful. The question is Andy, at this price do you go the whole hog and just buy V2 Streetfighter anyway? Great review as always mate. Ride safe.
Thanks for yet another great review, tho not a bike I would actually pay the extra for as not interested on doing track days, for which I'd say it is aimed at. But if Ducati would like to drop one of to me, I wouldn't be to rude and decline haha. Like the looks of the boots too, and with having arthritis, the zips would be ideal 😂😂
I do like the colour scheme. I've got to get a test ride of a Monster some day and start singing the obvious tune by The Automatic, sigh ! It's not revenge of the white vans on this review, it's revenge of the road cones, I guess the white vans were trying to avoid the road closures ... You did compare the Monster to the Striple, so if you had space in your garage (yes you've said it's tight !) and the spare cash, this or a Striple ?
Shame they cover the engine in plastic , hard to make out the cyclinders !. Your roads look about the same as ours down here in Devon , crap. Nice video again.
It’s obligatory to disobey road rules on a motorcycle imo Mr Flyer. If you’re at risk of dying every time you go out there needs to be a benefit, and getting around traffic restrictions is number 1. Nice bike btw.
I love the way your voice dropped to a whisper when going down a closed road ,a sign of a honest man

Sounded good to me - not as good as the triple for sure…
Great review, but I continue to be disappointed with the direction that Ducati has taken under Audi ownership (VAG are the best car makers going. I do own and drive an Audi). The Monster was designed as a stripped back, bare bike. This isn't. Fine for some, but I'll stick to my '95 Monster M900. Trellis frame, dry clutch, air cooled, L twin - the soul of what was Ducati. It still puts a smile on my face - the grin factor.
Fair enough!
I’m not usually a Ducati fan but that bike is simply gorgeous. Loved the off road segment (closed road) - brilliant🙂 I prefer a pi** pot brake fluid reservoir just because I find it reassuring to see the fluid level! Guess I’m a nervous rider!
Glad you approved of my creative riding - it seems not everyone did!
It’s a lovely thing “in the flesh”
Andy two seasons in Canada. Winter and Road Work 😂
Would this be a good option for someone who's just passed their A2?
Cheers!
Yes I think so - lovely bike…
I would say the SP is definitely worth it.
* Öhlins suspension, including steering dampener.
* Termignoni exhaust with nicer looks and sound.
* Better brakes
* Better tires (Diablo Rosso 4 instead of 3)
* Lithium battery
* Wet riding mode
The Öhlins suspension + termignoni exhaust gives it a much better look and combined with the SP livery I think it's much better looking overall. It feels more premium and tbh if you can afford the base version you probably can afford the SP too because the difference really isn't that big. I got the SP 2024 myself and I love it!
All upgrades are clearly explained here: th-cam.com/video/wD3JDoWuWDU/w-d-xo.html
Yes lovely bikes - still quite fancy one but it's tight between this and a Street Triple RS in Yellow!
Man alive, that thing needs a tail tidy. That's quite a piece of Italian scaffolding.
Having good suspension though the clickers make a noticeable difference.....couple clicks either way can be more noticeable than average.....
Would always choose the better quality stuff...
Am sure you can soften that ohlins up to ride pretty sweet......much more versatile range with better componets usually....
SP is better choice imo...your already buying a ducati anyways😂
I mess with my suspension quite a bit.......
Quite possibly - I’ve been thinking the same!!
A Freddie Dobbs…. Love it
Thank you Mr. Flyer. What a beast of a bike, it looks a bit frightening to me lol. I wonder whether the quick shifter will "loosen up" with use? (the one on my '21 Street Triple certainly has, although at very low speeds it doesn't change up that easily)
You often mention the bikes you test could appeal to riders planning track days, I wondered whether it's something you might do on this channel, with an instructor maybe. I can't be the only "sports bike" user who doesn't but might.
Lastly I love the riding gear you feature - I'm in need of summer gloves atm. :>)
I have filmed and posted track days on here in the past on my Panigale - not really my thing though (although everyone should do o r at least once!)
@@TheMissendenFlyer OK thanks I'll check that out. :>)
I don't know..... the Termignone exhaust probably sounds great to the rider (and those who are passed by) but they didn't sound very good to me. I would guess that it's just the way your camera mic picks up the sound. However, I really like the way the Falco Aviator Boots look and work with 2 zippers!
Lovely bike, if only it had cruise control. The lack of cruise control is what had me eyeing up an 890 duke r
At that pricelevel, a few other machines springs to mind. I tried the standard one and it's a fine machine. I think I would go with the KTM though. But so many good bikes these days.
Thank you for this well done review mr Flyer.
And those gloves are really worth every penny.
I think this generation Monster looks much better than the previous version, to me they always looked cheap, thanks for the review.
Yeah I agree
Looks like a fun bike, interesting comparison to the Street Triple, I'm in the process of buying my next bike at the end of this year... not sure I can justify the Ducati based on my previous experience of the Multistrada... but Triumphs ain't cheap either!
No such thing as a cheap motorcycle these days!
Ducati gives USA the DRL unlike Triumph, though you'll still need to order the various indicators. The bike does feel tall. Very nice machine. I think the quality is better than Triumph. The Ducati screen/info is way better.
Why are people complaining? It still has a trellis, that protrusion out the back holding the plate way, waay out there.
Probably a lovely bike to ride but take the red paint and decals away and to me it looks more like a cheap Chinese bike, id still pick an old monster over the new one.
Fair enough!
This, or the street triple rs in yellow?
Tough call which I have been pondering!!
hello not a factory exhaust is it
They gave it the correct title ( Monster ) . Looking at this Monstrosity one would never imagine that Ducati once manufactured very attractive looking motorcycles .
I think this one looks mint!
@@TheMissendenFlyer It should be in mint condition it’s new ,but it’s still looks weird like a mechanical insect . Ducati have lost the plot ,this is what happens when computer nerds are let loose in design departments .
Nice bike. Handles well. A bit of character ie. the vibrations and sound. Does'nt sound as good as the Harley , but what does.
Thank you!
My dream bike ☺️
This new one is ugly compared to older monsters.
You mentioned in your review that the bike could be good on a track. Why don't you give it a try and see if you can get the suspension set up to suit you ? Could be an interesting watch.
My sort of bike, light, dynamic, raw sounding, good handling, character. Great review again.
Thanks!
Raw Sound??? Sounds like 125 to me👂🤔
Nice review, as always, but as usual (and you are not the only one!!) how can you speak about grip levels, handling and so on if you ride on that type of roads and those speeds. I mean, there is hardly not one real corner and your max speed was maybe 70 mph...I really hope you have other types of roads where you live, otherwise, why ride a bike? Or why that type of bikes. A Harley would be more suitable.
Not a lot I can do about the roads available to me - sorry about that!
That exhaust pipe looks really smart. What's the point of all those other shiny bits with that piece of rubbish hanging out in front of the engine?
You’d have to ask Ducati that!
cool bike!
I think so too!
I like riding on footpaths too 😂
Nice 👍
Great looking bike always liked the monster sounds good like the twin exhaust great review again andy
Thanks 👍
Anyone else trying to pause at the fine print even though you've read it at previous videos checking if something changes? 😄
No
One day soon it will!
@@TheMissendenFlyer Just make sure you tell Mrs Flyer before you do 😄
It is a great looking bike but like many have said it is very pricey in this segment. In fact the price is getting close to the V2 Streetfighter which is way more powerful. The question is Andy, at this price do you go the whole hog and just buy V2 Streetfighter anyway? Great review as always mate. Ride safe.
I didn’t like the v2 SF - I’d have to go v4 then you’re talking serious mula ££££
Did I hear him say that it was a beautiful day there in South Fukyushit?
Nope
Thanks for yet another great review, tho not a bike I would actually pay the extra for as not interested on doing track days, for which I'd say it is aimed at. But if Ducati would like to drop one of to me, I wouldn't be to rude and decline haha. Like the looks of the boots too, and with having arthritis, the zips would be ideal 😂😂
Another good looking bike from Ducati, looks like a lot of fun
Easy bike to like is the monster... 😊. BTW Is launch control possibly the least used modern bit of tech.
Tough one that - let me think about it!
Funny how you mentioned the clutch and brake fluid containers. My wife says they look like urine sample cups.😮
Bike does look a hoot!
Shame they cover the engine in plastic , hard to make out the cyclinders !. Your roads look about the same as ours down here in Devon , crap. Nice video again.
Everything Italian alway looks great bikes, cars and even the ladies lol .
It’s obligatory to disobey road rules on a motorcycle imo Mr Flyer.
If you’re at risk of dying every time you go out there needs to be a benefit, and getting around traffic restrictions is number 1.
Nice bike btw.
Amen to that!
shockingly small front mudguard, you'll be cleaning this not stop.
I love Ducati’s! That said, I am afraid that the cost of service for Ducati’s is too high for me to ever consider buying one.
Fair enough!
