On an interesting side note: if you are trying to lose a couple pounds, but often feel hungry, it is actually dehydration sometimes. If you hydrate, you won’t be as hungry all the time.

I am a healthy 61 year old male. I did my yearly urinalysis and blood tests in early June before leaving the Philippines for the USA. Found elevated blood levels in urine. Went to Dr. Ocampo, renowned urologist in the Philippines. He told me to get an ultrasound. Found a kidney stone blocking the urethera. Emergency surgery for $2000 USD (would have been $5700-$9700 in the US). I feel great now, more energy and stamina! All because of testing: just do the tests!!!

I had a major bypass surgery last year, when I woke I was in the ICU and I remember the nurse taking away my urine collection bag as they were closely watching my intake and output, but the contents were nearly black, darker than Pepsi. The operation took a lot longer than planned, they said it would be 4 to 6 hours in the OR but it ended up being 12. They bypassed the aorta and both femoral arteries. I was so out of it I did not ask about the pee, but they had a lot of fluid going into me by IV lines, as in multiple IVs. At one point there were 5 bags hanging from the IV poles, fentanyl, morphine (Dilaudid) and who knows what all. All I know is I had to really beg and plead for a few ice chips just to hydrate my mouth and throat. I overheard one nurse at shift change saying he did not think I was going to make it. The pee also had a reddish cast, and the surgery took so long with the aorta closed that my spleen infarcted. No other information about that, I hope I still have one.

Despite what he has said, its actually very easy to drink too much water and die as the result. If you are doing a lot of exercise in humid conditions over long periods of time such as hiking and drinking a lot of water to make up for the loss in sweat, you also lose all salts and minerals in doing this. So its best to have salts and electrolytes in this process

    • @cherylowl8416

The amount of water a person needs daily is not one size fits all. It depends on height/weight, where you live (ie in Arizona vs New England states ... in Arizona, it is much hotter and your need for water is more. Also the amount of exercise you do/don't do. The more exercise you do, the more water you'll need. Things like that.

    • @SmallSpoonBrigade
      @SmallSpoonBrigade ปีที่แล้ว +1

TBH, the best way of going about it is paying attention to how much is going in and how much is going out. It can be a bit tough in places like Arizona that are both extremely hot and extremely dry during parts of the year as it can be difficult to know how much your sweating if it immediately evaporates. But, in that case, you'd look at how much you're peeing and what it looks like. If it starts to get chunky or foamy, then you're in a fair it of trouble.

Hours anywhere from 14 hrs. Or more, your uric acid levels will elevate. Your urine will turn darker.
Once you drink enough water they will go back down. The main factor is that every one’s body is different & a lot of Dr’s & people do not consider this. Especially a lot of the nutritional gurus on here & elsewhere. Two stories. When my grandfather was a pediatrician his assistant (my grandma) played a prank on him and filled a sample cup with fresca soda which was new then. My grandfather freaked out when he saw bubbling on the slide and told my grandma to call fresca's parents and tell them to bring her to the ER.
A sadder story was with the head of neurology at the hospital my mom was working at. He was diagnosed with late stage bladder cancer and eventually passed away from it. It turns out he was peeing blood for a long time but somehow never noticed because he was colorblind and therefore let the cancer progress. I didn't know it was possible to be that intensely colorblind but who knows.

I recently set up an appointment with my doctor because there was blood in my urine. So while I waited for my appointment to get here I decided to do a urine test with those test strips that test a lot of other things. The strip color for blood was the next to the darkest. So I stopped using a really cheap brand of toilet paper and went back to Scott tissues then tested again. The strip showed a lighter color the next day. By the 4th day the blood was completely gone. This blood in my urine was happening for a while and it was during the time I was using this cheap Walmart brand of toilet paper. So I was able to cancel my appointment.

Ah yes remember it well. But if you use a low-flow toilet, don't "let it mellow" TOO much. 1) the urine will develop an unbearable strong ammonia smell, especially in hot weather, and 2) your plumbing actually needs regular flushes to keep the t.p. moving and prevent it from solidifying and clogging the outflow pipes. Trust me on this, our complex has awful outflow plumbing.

Few years ago I was in the hospital passing a stone, and I couldn't keep ANY thing down. Not even water. When they asked for a sample it was almost dark as blood, can't forget that. So glad that's all done with!

    • @lordofthewoods

My worst was my first (only one that ever caused vomiting, I believe) and, of course, I didn't know what was going on. Over the years, they became less and less of a problem, to the point where I would usually have what seemed like a minor backache one day, and pass a stone the next... SURPRISE! I DID have a bad one in 2007(?) that had to be broken up by shockwave; only one in over forty years of them that I didn't pass.
I THINK I have one now that is IN the kidney, but causing bleeding on days with more physical activity, though there is usually a lot of sweating associated WITH the activity, so it's hard to pinpoint a trigger. The urine will get darker and darker on those days only (going on for about 3-4 months now), and not until it reaches almost the color of coffee can you detect a reddish tint; prior to that, it appears as stages of brown akin to iced tea. Other than the off color, the only symptom is a slight, continuous discomfort in the abdomen. On less active/less perspiration days, it can be almost as clear as water.
Which leads to my question: If I get my water primarily from iced tea, does it count? I don't drink ANY soft drinks, only a hot tea morning and evening, and iced tea (made with spring water and spiked with Peach Mango V-Fusion!) ALL DAY. On REALLY hot days, if I am perspiring a LOT... which I DO (really, anything above 75 degrees with heavy activity) I will AUTOMATICALLY default to spring water since it just seems more refreshing. BUT, when I am drinking iced tea EXCLUSIVELY, am I REALLY getting the water I need from the tea, in fact, is it even POSSIBLE to, since it is caffeinated, and caffeine is a diuretic, blah, blah, blah?
If you can't answer it, I need to remember to ask the urologist when I finally make it in for what is hopefully a sonogram to rule in/out the presence of a stone in the kidney. I'm HOPING it IS a stone because, if not, it's probably something WORSE! : )
EDIT: Actually just checked, and Mayo Clinic says... as I interpret it... that you CAN get enough water from drinking enough caffeinated drinks exclusively, though they do have a MILD diuretic effect. Good, because I always used to say to my wife when she would tell me that I needed to "drink more water":
"But my iced tea is FULL of water!" : )

@@lordofthewoods just drink half a gallon of water throughout the day and you will be drinking enough water, I drink about this much water and my urine is mostly clear. Keeping yourself hydrated everyday by drinking water removes the toxins that your body accumulates from breaking down food and other things. In your case you wanted to substitute tea for water which makes since because in order to make tea you just add a tea bag to water, but that doesn’t seem like it’s working out for you since you say that your urine is a dark yellowish color.
I’ll give a different scenario: can I just drink lemonade instead of water. Reason being is because the lemonade I make all I do is fill a pitcher up with water and add a packet of lemonade mix to it. Could I substitute this with water, no because I’m also consuming the contents that the lemonade packet adds to the water which is added sugar, sodium, and other substances that the body would break down and over time the body would accumulate toxins that the body wouldn’t be able to get rid of as well because I’m not consuming enough water, pure water with no added substances.

If you weight 60-80kg (132-176lbs) then drink 1.5-2L (8 glasses)

WHY, WHY, do so many sites think it is cute to play obnoxious background music when we are supposed to be able to understand the person speaking? Clue in, the population is aging and even some of us who are not yet ancient have hearing issues. Hopefully this is a helpful video for someone but for me it just raises my crazy blood pressure.
