As we get older, things do tend to break down. It is very critical when we examine Creatinine levels and eGFR we also factor in age. I am 69, my eGFR dropped from 62 to 59 last year, my Creatinine was 1.3. I weight train 4-5 days a week, therefore my Creatinine levels will be higher than most. The key is not to freak out when you receive lab reports as Dr. Hasmi mentioned, results will vary from lab to lab. Six months prior my annual checkup showed my eGFR at 72, Creatinine at 1.1. According to studies, statistics will classify my eGFR as stage 3 but factoring my age I was told by nephrologist that's normal. I would ask Dr. Hasmi to speak a bit more on how age may factor in high levels of both eGFR and elevated Creatinine levels.
I am so glad your Nephrologist pointed this out. Yes, I’ll do a video on this. A lot of folks 60 and older get labeled as CKD 3 when they do not have any kidney disease.
Dr. thanks for the valued information on creatinine level. However, I was surprised that CYSTATIN C WITH eGFR was NOT mentioned as an additional test measure eGFR.
Hi Dr. Hasmi, I have a question regarding the choice of statins (and doses) a CKD patient should use to preserve their kidney functions, assuming a typical patient will tolerate and respond to the treatment with any of these statins very well. I hope you can make a video on this important topic. The studies I found regarding this issue have conflicted information, so I am not sure what are the up-to-date knowledge and consensus among the experts.
I’m still in the process of rulling out what is wrong ..I have not all but most of the early symptoms you mentioned in one of your videos, just had my ultrasound.waiting for the results and drinking water .
Does Keflex increase creatinine? I just finished 14 days on 1500 mg and then had blood work done. Creatinine increase by .18 so eGFR went down.from last time.
Dr Hasmi im from the Philippines and the normal range is up to 6.1. Last month my BUN was normal at 5.1. Could it be because I have just been eating 2 eggs plus a plant based protein every day? My creatinine is 150. Im 46 years old, I donated my kidney to my mom in 1997 when I was 21.
@@melissapalomares1528 First of all, so amazing that you donated a kidney to your mom. Second, slight elevations in bun are not concerning. its the overall trend that matters. Always focus on weight, diabetes and high blood pressure as the top 3 to get healthy.
Are the dipstick tests for creatine the same as and as accurate as the blood test? I’m getting a 4.4 every time at home But concerned if I’m reading this correct
Near infrared phototherapy for CKD. Do you have an opinion or anything to add to the recent paper Therapeutic Potential of Photobiomodulation for Chronic Kidney Disease ? "Thus far, there are no evidence-based guidelines on the protocols for delivering PBM therapy in the treatment of CKD." But the authors seem optimistic that some flavor of the method may benefit. Thanks.
Thank you for sharing. I have been keeping an eye on the papers. So far no institutions I know of are using it clinically outside of small research studies. The data is interesting. If I see anything more, I'll be sure to share it here.
Hey Dr. Hashmi, i weight training 5-6 days a week, 10k step per day, should i stop doing excersice berfore the bloodtest? how about walking, should i stop too?. Very great info btw, Thanks Doc!!!
It depends on your blood test. If your numbers are okay then no need to change. If numbers elevated, repeat test and don’t do anything strenuous close to the blood test
Thanks Dr. Hashmi, for this helpful info. Been trying to adopt a lot of info you have shared here, and on your Plant Based Kidney Health channel. I am a major hypochondriac, :). on my last annual was diagnosed as stage 2 mild CKD,..egfr 61 Creatinine was slightly elevated at a 1.30. However Bun said it was a 15, Bun/Creatinine RATIO said it was a 12. Those seem ok far as I know. No protein in urine etc. Been worried sick for months...and guess my question is, I walk a lot up some very steep hills 6-7 days a week about 1.75 miles per day. Could strenuous walking esp a day before a blood test slightly elevate creatinine? Thx
Doctor i had my ct scan and the result was scarring of my kidney mild inflammation may i ask what am i going do or remedies please explain about mild inflammation whats the cure Doctor thank you
The 3 big things are weight, blood pressure and diabetes to start controlling. Eating plants, exercise daily, no alcohol, no smoking, sleep 7-9 hrs and reduce stress are great starting points
Creatine has a short half-life of about 4 hours and quarter half life of about 8 hours. However, because it can build up in the system, it can take up to 2 weeks to fully return to baseline.
@@ddutton4716 Yes, that is the safe way to ensure you get an accurate reading. Please take a look at the half and quarter-life. This doesn't account for the increased storage in the muscle that occurs with using creatine supplements regularly.
Holistic, Natural supplements and diet protocol from DR.UWENBOHERBALHOME youtube channel cured my CKD and High blood pressure completely alongside my symptoms including pains, inflammation, kidney stones, frequent urination, paled skin e.t.c.. permanently.😍😍😍😍
Hey Doc, if you regularly do activities such as training with weights, which can cause creatinine to rise even with healthy kidneys, does that waste product at high levels cause health issues either for the kidneys or elsewhere in the body? If the kidney is working hard to clear creatinine, could that inhibit its ability to clear other waste products like uric acid for people with gout? Would it be wiser to take more time between workouts to allow time for the creatinine to be cleared? 💪🙏 Thanks.
It’s interesting that movement creates inflammation but not all inflammation is necessarily bad. Some makes the body work better. The kidneys are a remarkable organ and handle so much. By sticking to better nutrition, hydration that I discuss on this channel, you are getting it ready for optimal function. I firmly believe we should exercise most days of the week. I exercise 6 days a week.

Will taking the supplement creatine, effect one's creatinine lab work? I work out and use it. How would I address that with my PCP?
Great info... Thank you

Dr hasmi ive been watching your videos. I have normal BUN for years until last week it was at 7.8. Could this be because of just dehydration?
BUN of 7.8 would be quite low. Did you mean a different number by chance?
