*I want to adress every medical student here. You are heroes. I own my life to a young intern when I couldn't breath and was in agonising PAIN, she suddenly asked me about any blood diseases in my family tree after the "real" doc decided that I had an ordinary lung infection and wanted to dismiss me. The ordinary x ray showed something that he interpreted as an infection. I remembered that my little brother has had "some blood clots in his leg" at age 23 and again at 25. After i told her, they threw my on a bed and rushed me to scan me, I passed out then. It turned out that I had a double massive lung embolism. We siblings got referred to a geneticist and we now know that we have the apc resistant gene in my family and we traced it back several generations.I am very, very lucky to be alive today. I was 28 years old when it happened. It is no wonder that this thing is called "The silent killer". My heart took a bad beating, but I feel ok.* Being on lifelong Warfarin treatment isn't funny, but the alternative is way worse.
