We moved here from M.D. to the Eastern Panhandle, Berkeley CO. And ironically my Dad could play the banjo and played this exact tune all my time growing up!!! Lol
I’ve lived here my whole life and I don’t know how to, either. My pastor on the other hand is an absolute machine on the banjo. And we had a kid that literally carried a banjo with him everywhere in high school and teachers let him play it in the hall. And I saw this EVERY day I was in high school.

Moved here 3 and a half years ago during COVID and Its the best thing to come out of that situation. Everyday I thank God for his blessings for this beautiful place. I look out my front windows and get stuck because I am memorized by the beauty. We don't have a pet opossum yet but plenty of the wild ones on our camera all the time.

For nearly 30 years, i went from Alabama resident to 1.2 years a resident of Wild Wonderful West Virginia in the drive up to our cabin in Sugar Grove for the 2 week Thanksgiving holiday Deer Season. 😢 I sure miss it!

West virginia was one of the most beautiful states i have ever seen. Rivers cutting through the mountians and views for miles. Cities like Charleston and Hunnington have a unique charm. Colder than I expected in the winter though.
I just got back from spending the weekend in West Virginia with my family. The most beautiful place I’ve been and the nicest people. The everyday town folk were some of the nicest I’ve ever met.
I broke down in Princeton WV once hauling equipment home to Ohio. Folks are country as Hell but also very kind. Still thankful to Steve at O'Reilly for all the help and courtesy.
My family moved from NYC almost 20 years ago and the canned/jarred food is accurate, and the banjo with a possum got me. Have you ever fed a sleepy eyed possum? She didn't move but she ate the peanut butter I left her.

Lmao I’m from WV and the opossum pet is pretty accurate 😂 We have an opossum that comes on the front porch and eats cat food we put out for the cats people drop off. It’s never found us threatening, or been aggressive towards us it’s just like a friendly stray cat
Back in highschool, we had a pug and a possum got up in our home thru the vent and didn't know it and our pug killed it and then about 3 years ago, me and my spouse came home and a possum was chillin in our bathroom trashcan
My grama and granpa are from War, WV. Those jars and my granpas flannels...they lived in cali for 60yrs after moving from WV and they stayed just like this!
My mother, auntie, and uncles ate possum their whole lives growing up. They also ate raccoon, squirrel, rabbit, boar, and of course, deer. All were hunted by my grandfather and uncles (who all knew how to hunt by the age of 10). They grew up on a farm and were poor.
Sounds like your relatives were tough, resourceful folks! Most of my friends and neighbors still eat squirrel and Deer! I've been lucky enough to meet some folks who are willing to mentor my kids and I in hunting! I have heard wonderful things about the squirrel, and dumplings my neighbor makes.
