    This gorgeous bike reminds me of another short-run Honda that I did own. Another work-of-art bike, with a short production run, the 1987 Honda SuperMagna. They are great to look at and constantly get comments, but good luck getting parts.

    I came upon a parked Rune in a AAA parking lot yesterday. The owner and I chatted for a while and it turns out he hated the way it rode and the front suspension was poorly engineered. BTW he was a pro BMW and Honda mechanic. Great looking bike though!

    I had one of these beauties a few years ago, flew from London to Boston Mass. to buy it, had it shipped home and loved it madly. Twists and turns of life forced me to sell it....very sad day. Scroll forward to today and guess what? A buddy who moved to Spain is selling me his Rune and it’ll be shipped to England in two weeks! This one won’t get away and will be my pride and joy until I’m too old to ride it, then I’ll just polish it and watch its value climb and climb....happy days!

      Lovely story about ownership. I love my bikes too and are like family to me. Sad story, but there is a Honda rune in my city (a Chinese Island) which was stolen from texas. The village mechanic can't get certain parts for it so its just sitting outside his shop uncovered and succumbing to the elements. Wanted to try do something about it and photographed it and its VIN number. I had to pay 7£ to have a VIN checkup online so didn't do it. Would love for it to be returned into the loving hands of its original owner.

    Great video, Sean! The Rune was an interesting experiment from Honda. But what a gamble! It is so...out there. Definitely not my style or taste. And I wonder...just how many did Honda think they could sell? Strange.
    Okay, about the gloves... I'm 63, and I've ridden all my life...worn all kinds of moto gloves. I now ride with some tan work gloves that look exactly like Sean's except that they have a tightening strap that might or might not work. Yes, they might come off if I end up sliding down the road on my palms. But you know what? I'm not a professional road-racer. Some times I ride without any gloves at all! OH MY GOD! And since I don't always wear a full-face helmet, nor do I wear full leathers/boots all the time, if I ever go down that hard, my palms will probably be the least of my worries. Work gloves are way more comfortable than any motorcycle glove I've ever worn. They actually make me want to wear them. And the best gloves are the ones you actually wear.
    To each their own.

    They don’t make the Oem front tires for it no more. Which is a 150/60 R18m by Dunlop’s. So now I have to put a 160/60 R18 Michelin scorcher 11’ for the replacement. Made for Harley’s , even says Harley on the tire. But it works.

    This bike is for sure a 1 of a kind beauty! I got a great deal on a used VTX 1800 about a year ago and the HP and Torque that beast gives out is something to be reckoned with, however THIS bike looks like it would smoke any VTX. Sadly I don't think I'll ever own one. Like Sean said, they're only gonna get more and more rare and values are gonna go up and I don't think I'll ever pay more than $10k for any bike regardless of how badass it looks. LOL

    This bike was only built on 04 , Honda held 500 back and changed the ID plate to 05 , it's easy to identify this , the originals have stamped ID plates and the held back 500 have a scrolled plate and when I first bought mine the book from Honda at that time they admittedly only made 1700 to make it a actual one year build ! These are the best bikes on the road ......

    Come on man! A Rune, while as a Harley guy, enjoy the the Rune as a concept. Love the drivetrain. Love the rarity. I can trade my almost perfect 18k wide glide for one right now with about 2k on it. Probably got to do some homework and get a court ordered or bonded title. Probably gonna do the trade as wide glides ate a dime a dozen. Paid 5k for mine. Its an 06. Anyway, rune aint never got no one hooked up as a bike. Just the money that could afford the bike. Gonna get that Rune here in Savannah, Ga. though. Will trade my wide glide for it. I have one rare Harley and 3 more that are 88s. Enjoyed the vid. Keep it up.

      @Alexanderofthe9th 6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Mr. Solitude I just have a tough time believing they'd hold up in a high speed slide. Not because of the quality of leather but in the way it's stitched together. Just my opinion, I have no evidence to back my claims up otherwise but it just feels as though more goes into a gloves strength then just the material alone.

LOW center of gravity makes it VERY flickable,...& still has great ground clearance (even lowered-one of the 'mods'...Makes the curve of the wheel fit the rear fender as well!) I own over 100 bikes at this point,...& my Rune is Top 5, & maybe even Top3...NUFF SAID. RIDE ON!

    If someone sat down and attempted to design the ugliest monstrocity of a motorcycle then something like the 'Rune' could very well emerge. It does not even possess the necessary basics - two seats (but possibly one could upgrade), windscreen / fairing, powerful lights. Its exhaust pipe looks like a rubbish shute ripped out of a high rise apartment block. The commentator spoke of its 'fender.' I don't see one and can only imagine that we shared the same vision, i.e. every truck driver attempting to run it over and put it out of its misery. I'm not anti-Honda and indeed own a Valkyrie Interstate.

  • @MontysMotos
    @MontysMotos 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I liked the rant about not modifying lol. I'm a tech and just... be smart about it. Make yourself comfortable, make some styling improvements, make it suit you. Hold onto the stock pieces and if an aftermarket part doesn't function well (very likely), don't go into denial about it, just cut your losses and change it back.

  • @mr.solitude3352
    @mr.solitude3352 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I will have nothing to do with the Rune because it represents one half of the poorest decision Honda ever made to me. In 2003, Honda decided to discontinue the Standard, Tourer and Interstate versions of the Honda Valkyrie, one of the very best motorcycle models Honda ever made. I had a 1997 Honda Valkyrie Tourer when I lived in Hawaii.
    A year after they discontinued those Valkyrie models, they introduced the Valkyrie Rune. The uproar by my fellow Valkyrie owners was both huge and lasted a very long time.
    I will have nothing to do with the Rune because it was coupled to Honda's decision to discontinue the other Valkyrie models. Everyone else is free to enjoy it.

    • @killaco23
      @killaco23 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mr. Solitude Not all true, the Valkyerie simply did not sell enough to justify them keep being made. It has a pretty big cult following. I think they were a little ahead of their time and people simply loved V-Twin old style cruisers. It's a beast!

    • @mr.solitude3352
      @mr.solitude3352 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Guilty. I was a member of that cult then. Our loyalty to the Valkyrie Standard, Tourer and Interstate was fiercely passionate. I will never forgive Honda for that decision.

    • @OriginalOldSkoolFunk
      @OriginalOldSkoolFunk 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Mr. Solitude I'm with you Bro. I have a 1999 Interstate and I still ride it like I stole it. 2 up, pulling a trailer, around town, or in the superslab...it really gets the job dine. To me, it's the epitome if a power cruiser.
      I really believe Honda discontinued the Valk because it is a 1500 Wing on steroids and threatened thier flagship. I'm mean, 6 carbs vs 2, advanced cam, and engine hanging out and not behind fairings etc... The Rune is an amazing production, engineering, and design muscle flex for Honda but it will always be a bit of a weird...but awesome novelty bike. It took the revolutionary fuel injected 1800 Goldwing to put the big tourer back on thier throne, IMHO.

    That's actually a good investment! After 10 20 years the value of that bike will rise up.

    Didn’t the Rune also asked joe public in a survey which style they wanted? Think they gave us three concepts and this concept won? Most of it was superficial differences such as the pipes etc...

    I like the look and I like the specs but that bike needs to be LOUDER I wonder if you could have a custom straight pipe built that would look stock but scream like a banshee

    Maybe I should get me one? Not many that have a bike named after themselves. The Honda CX650 Turbo must be more rare then this one?

    Awesome looking bike but with parts availability being soo poor and the price, it's NEVER going to be investment status...

    Fiskers are bespoke, boutique automobiles. A better comparison (concept to execution) would be the Plymouth Prowler.

    The Valkyrie is an awsome looking and riding bike.
    BUT the Rune is the most beautiful radical smoothest production motorcycle ever produced.PERIOD nothing in the past or dare I say in the foreseeable future has or will top this baby. I would love to be able to justify the purchase of this bike.But alas I have not been able to.Best wishes to the lucky guy/girl to buy this piece of heaven.

    It would be my luck if I owned a Rune the first time I got out on it somebody would run over me & completely destroy it. I had a Valkyrie & it was a great scooter but it did have the style of the Rune.

    First time watcher. Do you follow any of the rules of the road. No stopping at stop signs, 50 in a 35 used the shoulder to go around a corner onto another highway. The bike is nice though but expensive.
